Maybe "where's waldo, " Yuzu edition, is having a nice vacation somewhere. Or is finding he likes practicing in Japan better. Either way, he will eventually show up.

Seems like Yuzu is still in Japan?!:scratch2: But why?

It doesn't probably matter what for, because he always knows what he's doing. If he needs rest or training in Japan or whatever, it's for his own well-being. I hope he and his team finally approach the Worlds well-prepared both mentally and physically.

edit: Mina-san, did Javier mention robot Wally or someone else?

Personally I am a bit annoyed by this interview, better say that you will try your best and not expect others to make mistakes , well another proof that fame changes people :sarcasm:

I had the same reaction that you did. I have always liked Javi, but I was disappointed in some of his responses to the questions. Shades of Patrick Chan. Also seemed to downplay his friendship with Yuzuru.

I think he's referring to "Where's Wally?" or " Where's Waldo?" in US and Canada.

It's a series of children's books created by the English illustrator Martin Handford. The books consist of a series of detailed double-page spread illustrations depicting lots of people doing a variety of amusing things at a given location. Readers are challenged to find a character named Wally hidden in the group.

I think the only option he has is waiting for Yuzu to make mistakes cause when he's clean no one can beat him. Javi admitted it himself in Shanghai. I wouldn't be so hard on him for saying that.
Also, did he say something new about his relationship with Yuzu? Just that they're very different and live differently. It's well known, isn't it? Javi's outdoors type while Yuzu's indoors mostly. But they're friends at the rink. As always really. That's how I interpreted it.

He got asked a bit more about Yuzuru in that same interview and he said how positive it was for them to train together. That they keep trying to do their best when they watch their teammate during practices having a good day. And that they try to out jump the other but they keep it all friendly. He also said that that makes the competitions where they're both at easier, because they know well what the other can do (I think he meant that there's not so much pressure when they compete against each other).

I didn't see much wrong with it, Javier knows that it's not possible to beat a clean Yuzu. So, aside from doing his thing, he knows that the only way to win would be at the expense of Yuzu making making mistakes. Even with the second 3A, Yuzu still has a higher BV, and then there's the GOEs, of course.

Thank you for adding that ! :D

I don't see Javi being arrogant at all in this interview. It's such a pleasure to see those two motivating eachother like that and being realistic and admirative about what the other can do. Last year Yuzu was impressed by all the hard work Javi did and it made him want to work even more and now Yuzu adding bigger jumps made Javi want to take the risk as well. It's a very give-and-take relationship and the fact they can still be friends and encourage and cheer for eachother is a blessing.
Plus let's be real here, we're talking about the guy who spent more time comforting Yuzu than celebrating his historical gold medal at the last worlds. Let's give him some credit here.

Maybe Yuzuru is at Shae's place for some adjustments in choreography?

I'd like to think he is. After all, he wanted the levels on the step sequence, so perhaps he's there making the adjustments to get level 4s? And Shae Lynn said there were things that could still be worked on.

Reasonable me : oh it's probably to get his level 4 on the step sequence !
Reasonable me starting to stressing like crazy : ASDFGHDJKS HE'S ADDING THE LOOP RIGHT RIGHT RIGHT ?

I won't quote you all to death, but I pretty much agree with what PatricksGaze, xibsuarz and melmel already said. Also, I don't see how he's downplaying their friendship in any way. It's like having a really good relationships with a coworker. You can be great work-friends with somebody, but that doesn't mean that you have to invite them to a sleepover every week. They both have lives outside of skating and they like to do different things during that time. Almost makes them sound like normal aliens... I mean, normal human beings.

I am quite annoyed reading Patrick's and Javier's interview. They kept emphasizing "Yuzuru will make mistakes and we will win". I mean come on, figure skating is not like tennis (I play tennis that's why I use this as comparison) where your opponent is on the same court with you and you need to force them to make mistakes bc making winner shots every single time is impossible. In figure skating, you have the whole ice rink for yourself, there is no one who will disrupt your performance. In tennis, your opponent can screw your plan directly with their play, but in figure skating your opponent is not even inside the rink. All you need to do in figure skating to win are : 1. Build your program with high technical elements 2. Combine the technical elements with artistry and create a superb choreography 3. Perform your program perfectly as planned. It is really about competing with yourself to get better and better so that your score gets higher and higher. It is about moving forward to get a score high enough to win the competition. Your opponents really have nothing to do with your performance, it's all on you. That's why I am so disappointed with Patrick's and Javier's attitude because they are top skaters, people look up to them but they give us this negative attitude. I don't think they can ever beat Yuzuru with this mentality, they need to get the fact straight first. What they need to focus on is not what Yuzuru can and can't do but what they want to do and how to make that happen.

Javi only had nice words and only talked the truth (Yuzu DID a lot of mistakes at Nationals) about Yuzu and Yuzu is very much aware of that himself. So can we drop the subject ?

well, this is yuzu's thread, i think we'd better focus more on what he said.
he used to said something like he hoped everyone did their best and he still won the game. as an audience and yuzu's fan, this kind of competition is what i expect for.

7th evening (Japan time) the sports show Kiritoru will air again and clips of Yuzu at GPF will be shown. The full performance of Yuzu at NYOI the second show, will also be aired on TBS2 on the 6th evening.

On the 7th evening also NHK BS will air another sports related show that is hosted by a cross-dresser who likes to make his dresses modeled after skating costumes (Yuzu's and Takahashi's) they talk about various sports an this time Yuzu's performance at GPF will be discussed with Honda Takeshi, Sano Minoru, Kenji Miyamoto and Akiko Suzuki.
