For the past few weeks I think we've all had a sense of the pressure Yuzuru feels he is under, but personally today seriously got to me. When he said 'I think I have to do everything...I have to do everything perfect' you could see he has so much on his mind. He doesn't go to skate like 'Oh well let's see what I can do' he goes out demanding perfection and anything less isn't enough. That's a heavy burden to carry and I feel bad![]()
Especially when he did really well today!!!!! First place in the short with a beautiful performance! It's easy to say he shouldn't be so hard on himself, but I hope Brian can work with him to lessen the stress of being the best.
I expected that once Hanyu started putting together clean back to back skates that he would be haunted by the pressure of having to hold up to that perfection. It's in the natural evolution of his career that he needs to learn how to deal with that pressure. I'm glad that he's facing it now rather than at worlds.
His movement, expression, extension, everything is just so beautiful.
