I never watched "Story", I didn't even knew that it exist actually, so thank you for this list :thank:

If he plans to do Greatest Hits 2014-2018 next season (and I hope he does) I want to see Chopin, Seimei and Let's Go Crazy again. Notte Stellata and Requiem too, from exhibitions.
No problem :) Love your choices! With Milan, Italy being the location of 2018 Worlds, I'm 99.99% sure if he goes we'll get to see Notte Stellata there. A fitting end to the season, and a perfect sequel to the story of White Legend to encapsulate his journey from his first year in seniors. (Where's my smiling through tears smiley? haha)

I just want he to bring back Seimei as an EX

idk, but I teary eyed reading your post :sad4:
this young boy really..how far he has become
Yes, he really has come so far. So much has happened, ups, downs, disappointments, elations.. The thing I really like about this whole "Greatest Hits" thing is that it's a celebration not only of himself and his journey, but also of the fans who have followed him and been on that journey as well.

If he does the same next season (assuming new SP/LP), how do you envision "The Greatest Hits of Yuzuru Hanyu: 2014-2018 Quad"?

Wow, when you put it all together like this.... :') It's just like Yuzuru, and he's come so, so far :ghug: Thanks, unico :luv17:
Reading your post on H&L also increased my appreciation of the program tenfold (even though I loved it from the start). <3

Greatest Hits of Yuzuru Hanyu 2014-2018... mmm. Got to think for a bit.

Phantom of the Opera and Parisienne Walkway seem like obvious choices in terms of great significance (overcoming adversity) and greatest hit. But he did PW for EX at WTT in 2015 already.

Chopin - Like PW, a program perfected over two seasons. He attacked it with precision and refinement. A departure from his more signature dramatic style, a quiet program where he does nothing and everything at the same time.
SEIMEI - The program where he digs deep into his roots, and asserts the strength and delicateness of Japan. Surely the definitive program of this quad...
Requiem of Heaven and Earth - A program where he lays out his memories and feelings about 3.11... a program that capped off a season of the highest highs and the bitterest disappointment at himself perhaps, but one that he skated to, with perfect abandon, as if it were his last ever, knowing that he's going to be off the ice for a long while and his future seemed unknown.
Hope & Legacy - Into a new season, a strong will to pour his heartfelt thoughts and feelings about figure skating into this program, and to become one with his beloved ice, the environment, and with his audience.
Notte Stellata - The swan lake, the ugly duckling... the swan motif carries with it a strong sense of transformation and rebirth into something even better. What is Yuzuru Hanyu if not constantly renewing and bettering himself? The perfect cap to the arc that begun with White Legend.

World Championships 2014, Free Skate, Romeo and Juliet by Nino Rota

Commentators: I am not a completely sure who the first commentator (1) is but I think it is Sigi Heinrich. He commentates for various sports. The second commentator (2) here is Hendryk Schamberger, a former figure skater himself.

------------------------------------------------------------

1: Hendryk, you said it, Yuzuru Hanyu, if he delivers the ideal 4 and a half minute performance here he might be able to turn the tide to his advantage- it's just a question of how fresh he still is, the olympic victor from sochi.
2: I don't believe it. I believe.. ehm.. that is.. all olympic gold medalists go through the... the media hype that naturally arises and ehm they have to attend talk-shows and do this and that... and then to come here and be fit after this long a season which, after all, started in october for him.

(program starts)

1: Romeo and Juliet by Nino Rota - his program.

2: Well, if this continues he still has a chance.

2: That means he will probably do all his combination jumps after the 2. minute where he can earn the bonus points.

1: He doesn't leave anything out- strong until now.

2: Now he really needs a break. The a program he planned- unbelievable.

(Yuzu lands his Lutz forward and still completes the rest of the combo.)
2: WOAH that's impossible! That he is able to jump a triple salchow in this situation- it's unbelievable.

2: This is enough! (to win)
1: This is enough.

(end of program)

1: This is ins*nity. Yuzuru Hanyu. There is not much more he could have done. He threw in his last energy back-ups and delivered a program that could not have been anticipated- not after the olympics. This is how the olympic gold medalist can also become the world champion.
Hahah
2: Look at this, they will probably have to carry him off the ice.
1: That was an act of strength, an-
2: Unbelievable
1: an unbelievable act of strength- by Yuzuru Hanyu.
2: And you can see that he was already drained by the second minute.
1: What kind of fighting spirit resides in him- wanting to prove it once again infront of his own audience.
2: And the last combination jump, that triple lutz - single loop - triple sal- after the lutz landing, how much energy is necessary to throw yourself into the triple salchow after that? Unbelievable... unbelievable...
1: He accepted this high-level declaration of war by his collegue Machida and probably even topped it.
2: Now, what is interesting is that salchow landing. It will surely be reevaluated and could mean a reduction of points for him. But if his score stays this way...
1: 288.26 points are to be beat, dear viewers. 100 already in the technical score- 7 points ahead of Machida in this category.
2: Right now, what was his deficit? He has a deficit if 7... on the dot, exactly.
1: So now the PCS is the determining factor- there he will earn more (than Machida).
2: Not by far but he will surely earn 1 or 2 points more than him. Now also comes the reduction of points that I had feared- it is going to be a close call.
2: A japanese world champion title can only be prevented by Javier Fernandez now.
1: The Spaniard.
2: But put your hand on your heart- after the olympic games, as you have adressed it, after the alleged and presumed fuss and all the schedules he had to attend- here at the world championships at the very end of the season, in the very last free skate of the season- to complete such a program says alot about the qualities of this young man.

(kiss and cry)
[something incomprehensile due to clapping and cheering]
2: He has already recovered! Well, he is sitting all alone because Orser has to tend to Javier Fernandez.
1: Well, the training collegues are fighting against each other- all in their own ways.
Well, everyone now is waiting for... is waiting, dear viewers, for the scores.
2: 282 point! (point=decimal separator)
1: That's enough.
2: That's enough.
1: 3 tenth... 3 tenth...
2: Wow!
1: 3 tenth!! The olympic gold medalist could also become the world champion- except if Fernandez wins the free skate now- but this was really strong.
2: Unbelievable.

(cut)
1: ... and Hanyu is walking like a 70 year old with a walking stick but now that is- of course his back is probably hurting- but now that is a bit for show. [He is calling Yuzu out for being fake. LOL] It's understandable, he may do that, he is a young lad, he may do that.
Hanyu ahead of Machida, the olympic gold medalist has also become the world champion and with that shows a great fighting quality. That shows personality.
2: Yes, yes.
1: That (the act of winning both titles) shows personality.
2: This really surprised me- that he managed such a close fight with Machida, that he gave it his all.

I finally managed to catch up with the thread and saw that this translation request by Fayruza was left unanswered so yours truly- who has just gotten out of a 5-week exam period and cannot adapt to not having to study all day/night- has picked it up.

I don't really get their logic. It is "unbelievable" to earn both titles because once you're an olympic gold medalist you get hyped by the media? Ok.

Also I am very sleep deprived so feel free to point out mistakes.

I really hope he will be healthy and willing to compete at Worlds 2018, because I'm saving money to go. And I'm absolutely agree with your second sentence.

I think so, coz I heard only Yagudin who ever won the Olympic and then the Worlds in the same season before Yuzu
am I right? or I got it wrong?

Thanks Liha for translating!! I hope the exams all went well :)

I think the "unbelievable" part is because it's rarely accomplished. A lot of Olympic gold medalists simply pull out of Worlds, perhaps to end their season on top with a flourish, probably due to mental fatigue. Those that do head into Worlds.... well I remember Yuna losing to Mao in 2010 Worlds after OGM. It's hard to keep the motivation I think.

I wish I was with him since the beginning...not sure how I could have emotionally dealt with all that, but nonetheless I wish I was there...
I guess I'm just glad it's not too late and I am here now.
:sad4:
Actually crying...this is sadder than a korean drama...

At this point I'm just thankful I got to know that he exists, that I got the chance to watch his journey from videos and interviews and old threads. Joining now is better than joining never at all. :sad4: Ah, I'm sentimental, it's getting late in the night...

Everyone's journey is different. :) There's also different values in joining later, earlier, joining for a bit then leaving then rejoining. It all accumulates into your own unique experience.

...
I'm glad you enjoy my ramblings, love your comments as well! I can envision all of those, and your interpretations are wonderfully expressed, especially your take on Notte Stellata. For me, this program in particular is so nuanced in meaning and my interpretation of it changes almost every time I watch it. There's the background context of The Dying Swan set to Saint-Saëns's Le cygne (fragility of life), Yuzuru's comments ("gently moving forward"), the context of his career and other programs programs, the romantic lyrics, the skating aspects, the jumping aspects, and then all the differently nuanced performances. Now, you've added a new layer of interpretation for me to contemplate when he skates it: transformation.

Notte Stellata for me is the program where you really see the growth of Yuzu's skating skills and how focusing on expression of the music and conceptualising a kind of scene or story has added richer depth to his performances over time. While he has always been able to deliever more dramatic performances and has been able to carry louder, flashier music, now he can also perform a quieter, gentler, more subtle and nuanced performance. It shows his growth and refinement, and the maturity he's gained. He wasn't quite an ugly duckling before but it's like the baby swan entering it's prime.

Like "muscling" the jumps and using the upper body to rotate rather than letting the skating edge cause the rotation, maybe?

What does telegraphing mean?

Telegraphing is basically a very obvious and lengthy set up to a jump. I think they used to mark down when skaters would telegraph their lutzes in particular. If you're gliding backward for half the rink before picking in. That's a no no.

I don't know what to call it, since English is not my first language and I'm still very new in FS. I googled telegraphing and yes that bothers me too.
But what I meant is more like Evgenia (and a lot of other skaters) does. When she's about to do a toe jump, she raises his leg so far and all of her body obviously looks tense when hitting the ice. You can see clearly how she moves all her energy to that leg so she can jump that you don't even need to see the slo-mo to see it.
I understand jumping is hard, but it throws me out of the program. Especially if the program is supposed to be executed delicately.

Meanwhile, Yuzu does it with ease that sometimes I don't realize it's a toe jump.

I hope this is clear enough :hopelessness:
I wonder if Med could do less of it if she wasn't tano-ing most of her jumps. And yes one of the reasons I love yuzu's skating is because his jumps are like they're out of nowhere. It's glorious.

somehow, all Nathan's quads landing are bother me alot, I don't know why..

For me it is how his free leg unwraps as he lands. It kind of sticks out really straight. Nothing he can do about it, does not matter, but I notice it compared to other guys.
I thought I was the only one. I know he's doing the harder quads but I'd rather watch Yuzu jump. He also has a weird technique where he puts his hands flat to his chest. Someone did a SBS comparison with him and Yuzu and Shoma and it's really interesting. I'm sure it's to his advantage. Probably less air resistance so he gets the rotation.

You are not kidding. Who knew that the most basic part of a skater's costume would be getting the biggest response...

I still remember the gasp (probably collective across the fandom) when he stepped on the ice at Autumn Classic with those white legs and sparkles on them... it was total shock on my part.:eeking:

And I was all giggles at around 4 in the morning. Had to keep hard from roaring with laughter and waking everyone up. That was just hilarious - thank you, Yuzu, for completely shattering anyone's expectations.
Ah, that costume talk at the start of each season... :) When exactly did it start?

Hopefully we see him in shows after he finishes with competitive skating, he is just at the beginning of his artistical development and he can do that for decades to come. Its quite the first time (durig an ex) I didnt wait for his jumps.
