Yuzuru Hanyu: 2017-2018

It's a bit too late to go to the hospital now, isn't it?
It's ridiculous.

No it isn't.
Regardless of whether he competes or not, if he feels like the injury could be more serious he must go get a proper diagnosis with image studies and prospect of recovery. It would have been best for him to go sooner, but that doesn't been he shouldn't go at all.

Wow, I'm shocked too :( I hope this doesn't turn out to be a bad injury and wish Yuzuru a speedy recovery, I know he must be crushed that he will miss the GPF and not compete at home.

I think the worst thing will be not being able to build momentum and the perfect conditions before the Olympics. :(

Now BS NHK is showing Pairs, but at the beginning, they announced Yuzuru's withdraw from NHK and the announcer said the name of his injury was "右脚関節外側靭帯損傷” (right leg joint lateral ligament injury, from google translation).

I think he made the right decision especially after knowing this name of the injury. I'm still very sad to know that he was crying though:cry:

Hearing about this diagnosis it sounds like he made the only decision that was available to him. Hoping with all I can that it's something that can heal quickly.

As much as I don't want it to, this is going to taint my enjoyment of the rest of the season until I see him healthy and competing again... :(

First Chan and then Javier now Hanyu golly what the heck is this season! All three out of the GPF! Who would have thought? NHK won't be the same without Hanyu. I guess this is a golden opportunity for the U.S. men.

I'm heartbroken for him. To be forced to withdraw must be so tough. But we will all continue to support him. I'm at my hometown, watching NHK with my family, and we are very sad for him...but are cheering for the others.
:(
Anyway, all my thoughts and prayers are now for a quick recovery and performance at Nationals. :ghug:

It takes less than 1hour to get an MRI scan, it would have been easy to have it yesterday evening ( and much more logic if doctors suspected a bad injury, plus Yuzu is in Japan and not in a foreign country), then you decide to WD or not , it's not VICE VERSA. They had planty of time. Ridicolous.

I cried too knowing that he cried...This decision must've been such a torture for poor Yuzu 😭😭😭... Nevertheless, what's to be done must be done. Wish him a speedy, complete recovery and get that Olympic gold!!!!

I'm taking a day off from work but my co-workers sent me texts from the office, "Is Hanyu-kun OK?". They are only casual viewers but they are also worried.

I'm not a doctor or anything, but I searched for the meaning of the 右脚関節外側靭帯損傷 on line and it was formal name for "捻挫" (right ankle sprain).

I hope this injure is not so hard but he needs to take care himself for OG.
This season is very important for every athletes.
Would be so pity to the strongest of them to miss OG.

I'm pretty devastated...I'm so proud of him for prioritizing his health because I feared he would go on and make it worse for the home crowd's sake and praying for a speedy recovery, but I'm still so sad. I'm sure the Japanese audience will be ever welcoming to the remaining skaters in the NHK cup and I will be apart of them, but I'm just sort of shell shocked right now. Team cricket just needs a huge hug right now.😭

he's surrounded with a full team and doctor geez they won't make a RIDICULOUS decision (like when he should go to the doctor).

I cannot believe this!!! Oh my God I'm so heartbroken too!! But I agree, his health is more important than another GP title. But still, I just can't believe it.

Yesterday I was talking to a friend and we were saying that if he had an injury (even if it was a "minor" one, and I'd take the "minor" part with a grain of salt) he should withdraw. There are too many high expectations this season.

But... It's Hanyu, we're so used to see him as kind of a super human I really didn't think he would actually do it. I'm mostly shocked, even I think it's the right decision. And also as a Javi superfan I was crushed last week, and now it's sad to see my two favs one 99% out of the GPF and the other definitely out.

I'm super worried about his health. I'm also terribly confused about the skate gods!!!! What kind of GPF are we going to have? Aw :( !!!

I'll agree group hug now

It's a real shame that he couldn't compete here. However, I'm happy they made the right decision and decided to withdraw from the competition. The good thing is that the injury shouldn't be that serious and he should have enough time to recover(Though I guess you never know without the specifics).

Thank you for the info.

When I saw the clip, I was really worried about possible knee injury caused by the torque, but this makes me hopeful that it's "just" a (hopefully minor) ankle sprain.

Yuzuru's comment

(I'm sorry that) I made everyone worried. I had been given hard treatment from the doctors since last night for my appearance in NHK, but unfortunately I decided to withdraw by the final decision of the doctors.

From now on, I will devote myself to treatment and I will do my best toward Japanese nationals.

Thank you for your many support.
