Yuzuru Hanyu: 2017-2018

OMG, thank you NHK!!! I love this~~ especially the last part when Yuzu let the gold medal go around the camera, it’s so close! I feel like that’s over my head, I don’t know what magically touch on my soft spot, I want to cry.

In the live streaming I noticed him doing it but I didn't know it was a camera there. I was like "OK, the heat stoke this guy's head "

Looks like big smiles all around! He is such a parade pro now, I am seeing reactions from people at the parade that he was very attentive to people on both sides, inside buildings, on the street, and respond to all kinds of requests! So nice to see his love for his hometown is reciprocated; he is allow to be in Sendai undisturbed and in ninja mode when he wants to, definitely would not be the case if it's Tokyo.

Yup, he was very professional, especially trying to single out people by referring to them. It makes the cheering people so happy that they were noticed. He said he did Seimei pose because the request was written on small signs in people's hands.

Yuzuru donated his all reward money of the Olympics, 5 million yen each for Miyagi prefecture and Sendai city.

I've never heard 23 year old young man doing this in Japan. I know Sendai is his home town and he is not an ordinary guy, but most of the celebrities are not doing this after 7 years had passed from the earthquake. He is amazing.

Yuzuru Hanyu is such a compassionate person. Japan is lucky to have him.
I remember in a documentary he thought of quitting and volunteer instead for rehabilitation efforts.
But he made the right choice to continue to skate and use it promote for rehabilitation.
I really believe him when he said Sendai is his hometown with conviction. And maybe he is serious about creating a facility for athletes available in Sendai because that is where he wants to be.

I think Yuzu firmly doesn't want to go to Beijing olympics. I don't remember how many times he trolled and avoided the 2022 question by now. He never answers the question. In my opinion he is planning on retiring around 2020 Worlds. And just landing the 4A.

As much as I like him, I don't want Yuzuru to stay through Beijing. That's a long way off and he has nothing left to prove. I want him to stay healthy and not get injured or have chronic conditions from practicing so many quads.

I've thought about that a lot too (sorry to dive-bomb into the thread - I mostly lurk). I've read about so many skaters that had bad experiences and bad finishes to their careers (I can't imagine it happening to Yuzuru - like being 5th or 8th or whatever in competitions, repeatedly - but if he has chronic pain or a chronic ankle injury, then I can kind of imagine that might prevent him from doing what we know he could do, without the injury.)

I don't understand why an ankle wouldn't heal, counting from 9 November to the Olympics in February - and online I read that some people end up with a chronic ankle problem that just never really heals, after so many sprains and other traumas. I myself danced for years and my right ankle is permanently swollen a little bit. I don't really have pain or disability from it, but I know it's from the many sprains I had -- and that was just ballroom/Latin dancing which is nowhere near the kind of impact on the ankle as his many years of jumping.

I don't think sports medicine has done as well with ankles as with knees/hips (as far as replacement ligaments or joints, etc.) so part of me is really afraid that he'll end up with a lifelong issue with it. But of course, I'd love to see more!! Thank heavens we live in a time when we can re-watch his beautiful programs forEVER, and I do hope he's able to go on, but not if he's going to hurt himself too much! He's left us so many treasures already that will never go away! (I'm also upset that he has to deal with some degree of negativity from people and I think that would fade when he's less in the limelight competing but that's a whole 'nother can of worms.)

I hope he knows he has fans who will love him forever no matter what path he chooses!

He said he doesn't feel pain in his ankles anymore when he does spins and steps. But he's not jumping loop flip and lutz for rehab. The pain is gone and he is presumably off painkillers. So it will recover. He has a healthy diet and is very careful now so Im sure he will heal. [emoji3]

Hi guys since its something that disturbs me but I want to share in a place I know is safe.

I lurked on a different site dedicated to Yuzu and saw a comment that he should be thankful and owe his fans a lot.
Honestly it is but right for Yuzu to be thankful. We all know he openly expresses this.
But he doesn't owe us anything. Even without this popularity with his sports ethic he would have won the 2 OGM's.
Sure he has endorsement deals due to strong influence, but I believe even without it, Yuzu will be happy just the same.
When I decided to be a fan and bought stuff related to him, it was my decision. Sure he charmed me but I did it because it made me happy.
He makes me happy and I am thankful such a person exsists that gives me this feeling.
Being influential and popular are two different things. Yuzu aimed to be influential and the poplularity came in as a bonus. (While other times this superstar status is a handicap too).
He is a charismatic person, who just grabs attention whenever he is doing his best. (R&J ver1 Nice, H&L Helsinki)
His passion is often translated to actions which makes him very special and admired. But being who he is if there are people he owes it to, its his family and all those who helped his training.
As a fan even if doesn't go at par with the image in my fangirling head in the future its okay. I can live with that as long as he is in the line of being a responsible man of good character.
Yuzuru is human, he has the privilege to be opposite of what other people expect.
He has worked hard these past years, his dues for dreams are paid.
So he doesn't owe me anything. But I owe him this happiness and amazement that in this modern times, dreams do still come true. However it was never easy and the price for it is sometimes more than people want to bargain for.

How do I put the spoiler code here? lol

#羽生結弦の写真撮るの下手くそ選手権
The above hashtag contains many funny photos of Yuzu from the parade. It translates to 'Badly taken Photos of Yuzuru Hanyu Championships' Fans are uploading their photography #fails from the parade.

https://twitter.com/yychammh/status/988256489302183937 Weather discussion on TV: Because the wind suddenly 'rotated' direction just before the parade, instead of the very hot 29C, it dropped to 23C.

Mr. Sunday TV show has a digest of the parade and Minoru Sano is the commentator.
https://twitter.com/tomatoredhiro1/status/988048973976948737 when asked how he would rate this Parade, Sano-san gave it 100 points out of 100. :)
https://twitter.com/tomatoredhiro1/status/988049938712940544 "I did the Seimei pose because I saw a request to 'hit a pose' on a fan someone was holding I thought hard on which to do. I think those close by were able to hear me say thanks and I think they were able to meet eyes with me. But there were also people very far away and those waiting in the back who were cheering loudly and waving as well. I hope it reached them as well. "
Two elderly 76 year old men were interviewed. "we saw Hanyu and we were like 'yup.' and we had a beer." Did you get a good look? "He was way off to the side. This guy brought a chair, and watched. It a pretty amazing thing, that one person can draw a crowd of a hundred-thousand. If he can, I'd like him to win a three-peat" Then you can join another parade? "Yes, and have more beer!"
https://twitter.com/tomatoredhiro1/status/988050648775077889 Yuzu's message to the kids: To the kids who came with their parents, and I saw a few on shoulders, I don't know what this time meant to them, but I hope one day, they too can have their dreams come true in a way that can get them their own solo prarade.

The total funds raised through the sale of goods and also donations came to 2 hundred million yen. If there are monies left over, they will be donated to the reconstruction projects.

A short video message from Yuzu an ANA's Weibo account. https://twitter.com/BluecosmosH/status/988281299499499521 "To all the overseas followers of ANA's SNS, this is Yuzuru Hanyu. Thank you for your cheers, now and in the future."

If he were an ordinary man people wouldn´t feel so passionate about him. ;)

It is a grand gesture, hopefuly the money would reach people in need and others will see his example an donate. Is there a page to read about how the reconstruction work is coming alone?

This is HP of Reconstruction Agency, looks like it has many information in English, Korean and Chinese.

And maybe he is serious about creating a facility for athletes available in Sendai because that is where he wants to be.

I also think he is serious about this, and many skaters still have difficulties in finding the ice rink to train so he might be talking not only about Sendai but also the whole country.

This person is a reporter from Asahi newspaper and he says he will be tweeting (in Japanese) about Imperial garden party. Yuzuru will answer the media after the party.

And unfortunately, it is likely to be bad weather on 25th according to the forecast. But Yuzuru has the luck in terms of weather so I'm still hoping it will be a fine day  (It was sunny yesterday but is raining in Sendai today and its temperature is 14℃. And the last day of CiONTU was said to have heavy rain and strong wind, but the weather recovered early and I didn't have to have umbrella!)

I totally agree that he doesn’t owe us anything. Like you said, he can win and excel in his sport without the popularity... he won his novice and junior titles with only a handful of fans back when the arenas were pretty much empty when he competed. But sadly a lot of people seem to forget that he, at the end of the day, is an athlete. With his popularity, it’s easy for people to get carried away and treat him like idol singers whose career relies heavily on fans’ support...
