Yuzuru Hanyu: 2017-2018

And I'd rather double the frills than those trying-too-hard-to-be-cool corporate horrors Nathan got lumbered with at the Olympics (the one thing you can never accuse Yuzu of is worrying if he's cool enough, and so he just is). None of them can please everyone...
I'm not saying Yuzuru is not cool.
I am agreeing with Sorento on the cringy frills which distracts from Yuzuru's excellent skating. If females cringe at frills, imagine the male viewers.
Doubling the frills will make the wings symbolism lost and an even bigger distraction. I'm ok with costumes, other skaters have costumes too, its the design and whether it can convey the message it's supposed to. Hence why I said its frilly but not wingy.

I actually don't think this costume evokes wings at all. The song and choreography don't seem to reference wings either. It looks like the Shidarezakura. https://www.tripadvisor.com/Locatio...a-Nihonmatsu_Fukushima_Prefecture_Tohoku.html
These kinds of sweeping cherryblossom trees that have flowering branches that are shaped like a willow tree. Beloved in Japan at spring time.
The way the frills move as Yuzu spins and moves his arms matches the Shidarezakura swaying in the breeze of spring. --But this is just my impression. :)

The frills look nice during spins and flows nicely when he skates. I think he likes the way they move and flow.

I don't expect him to please me. Not at all. I just don't get why when I say I dislike something and joke in a most innocent way about it I get a "Parent" who comes and tries to teach me cultural appreciation and genders in here. What is wrong with disliking a costume? It's a costume!

Dont worry, I get lots of that too from fans of figure skaters, lol.
But then, I never liked Johnny Weir's designs for Yuzuru, so yeah. Seimei was very suitable. As was Hope& legacy in terms of compatibility with song theme. Then I found out these 2 were by a Japanese costume designer. Hahaha.

The recent ice shows I dunno who designed the costumes. I just reckoned ice shows costumes have different concept from competitive programs.

Wow he has fashion sense. Maybe he could design costumes for skaters like Johnny one day.

I do not like Hanyu's costumes most of the time. However, people should keep this in minds, these costumes look very different in motion under the colorful lights used in the ice shows. I have seen stage actor costumes in real life, in close up (through tivi) they look unpleasant to the eyes. But from a certain distance with lightning effect, they give different feelings.

Those who responded, I was not refering to cheery blossom costume. Cheery blossom design is no surprises coming from Yuzuru. I just wish some designer will take it and come up something different with it.

the frills not so wingy or whatever its supposed to be was from earlier FAOI: https://goo.gl/images/mGmxWt

That and Kobe's multicolour bright group costume is 'unforgettable' for this season. Along with Shoma's yellow costume at 2018 4CC.

It's like a Monet, costume addition   . Personally I do find the frills distract rather than enhance (as I find myself trying to look beyond it to appreciate other things), but it's his choice and I usually adjust to whatever it is. Not my first rodeo on this one because lord knows Sasha Cohen used to have some costumes I wasn't fond of, but I loved her to death anyway. I think (or hope) they'll at least work on the costume since as of right now it looks unfinished (at least to my cosplayer eyes who can't unsee the hemming, or lack thereof on those frills). Nothing beats UnderArmour for me though (even Seimei) since it exposes everything, so you can see everything is at maximum sharpness.

People are talking about costumes, I still can't get over the choreography.

It's nice. Yuzuru is a great skater. But it's a great skater skating to some nice music. He's more mature now and can pick out some nuances better than he might have if he'd done this program 6 years ago. But it's just nice for his current abilities.

I know what you mean. It feels like more of the same in some ways, but I expect it to grow over the season. I wasn't even feeling Notte Stellata that much until the Olympics. That's the only version I've watched multiple times. But he sure can't (or shouldn't) bring that one for a third season, so I'm willing to see what happens with this one over time. Yuzu is one to let it "cook".

To me the music pieces he picked for Ex for these two years are more or less similar. I'd rather him pick something completely different. And he's done so in the past (change, vertigo, hello I love you, somebody to love, etc). But I still love this new ex a lot so no complain here.

@yude Thanks for recalling me.
I just got back to my home country today safe.
A lot has been posted already but I am still gonna give my fan account.
Please bear with it for awhile.
On the final day Yuzu did all his jumps cleanly and at the finale when he did the 4T-3A successfully he pumped his arms in excitement
Sasha is a cute daddy's boy. But there were times he would follow and skate near yuzu. The two of them were so cute doing the piston pose.
During the finale when they are going to do the rounds on the rink he purposely went near javi. And just had those adorable smiley brother moments.
About the costume, it looked great while he was performing. Yuzuru is art in motion guys. I don't regret going. Its going to be a memorable day for me.
Puru, Sasha and Yuzu fan art, I saw it on the counter where the gifts are dropped off. When I saw in my mind I was hoping they get to see and appreciate it. I am happy for the person who made it. His/her work has been recognized.
Yuzu us just so smiley and so adorable. He is so charming.
On the show I met a fellow Hanyu fan from hong kong. She is a pianist and has been teaching piano for years. She said in a musicians point of view Yuzu's movements are in sync with the notes.
His sensitivity to the music is so real.
Ok I wrote and essay already lmao. But all in all Yuzuru Hanyu's skating is healing. And I wish him the best always

This actually feels exactly like Notte Stellata. A more vulnerable venture for him, although it has a sufficiently different tone in terms of song and movement. In terms of flow, it's like Hope and Legacy. An introspective venture.

I'm not sure who choreographed this for him, but I'd like them to stop using such obvious choreographic passes. Something tells me it's David Wilson.

Somehow. I was so mesmerized yesterday that I just couldn't type my thoughts.

Everyone skated his heart out and was full of joy :yahoo: My ears had some issues with Kaori's voice (sorry), but apart from that everything was amazing.
In Makuhari I needed some time to befriend with Dory tbh. This new pink costume convinced me at first sight. Yes - even the frills  Only that dark shade in the deep V-neck looked a bit like some unpleasant chest hair or something
The skating is just lovely, ethereal and refreshing. His super deep hydroblading, Ina, the delayed Axel... Love it! The way Yuzu accelarates and flies across the ice is incredible. Seriously, he gets better and better with each performance imo. It doesn't look like work at all, it's the most natural thing now.
His interactions with Javi and Sasha gave me life. Cuteness overload

I really hope, Yuzu is okay after that earthquake. Not only physically but mentally, too... so many horrible memories... :sad46:

Ding ding ding ding!! We have a winner!!! :hap10:

Though with him doing the Ex I'm feeling better about the chances of Jeff and Shae taking care of the rest.:pray::pray:

Of course it is. He's become the definition of using a skater's "greatest hits" and calling it "choreography", at least when it comes to exhibitions. So there's Yuzuru's delayed axel, hydroblade, a triple jump, and layback ina bauer. Just like for Yuna he "choreographed" her flying camel, upside down camel, an ina bauer, and a couple of spread eagles, and then threw in some twizzles because he was feeling a little inspired meeting her after 4 years, I'm guessing.

Honestly guys I was worried the earthquake might have been triggering for Yuzuru. But he is with a lot of people who support him. So might as well believe in them to usher him through.
