That's almost what makes me saddest :( Could of been the most perfect SP ever. He just about had it...and then despite ALMOST all of it being sheer brilliance, he doesn't even break 100 :( Not disagreeing with the judging. It's just sad.

IMO, Yuzuru will not be able to be relaxed and stress-free as long as he competes. And other skaters will experience it only if they can be in the same position as him.

I agree. "Why can't Yuzu be chill?" -Because if he was, he'd be a different person.
Yuzu hasn't been chill a day in his life. He can moderate it, and that's something maybe he needs to do here, but it's a core part of him. It's both a strength and weakness, but it's integral to who he is.

As I posted jokingly before, Japanese media or skaters have never said Yuzuru was the best skater of all time or GOTO as far as I remember. It may be cultural thing, but I have been feeling for a long time that many of Japanese public have not realized how Yuzuru is special as a skater and an athlete because of the way the media treat him.

And maybe not then. No one else is the same person as Yuzuru. And Nathan is absolutely unique as a skater, as a person, and as a competitor. I've never seen anyone deal so well with the pressure of being a perfectionist and skating at the top of his game.

I will say that Yuzuru knows himself so well. If I understand what I've read correctly, Yuzu found training with Javi really helpful because Javi could always joke and make him laugh. Also, Brian Orser is such a calming, reassuring influence. It's too bad he couldn't be there today. I heard Toronto was snowed in so Ghislain couldn't make it in time. I hope and trust someone will be with him tomorrow.

Kuyashisa is excellent fuel, and I think it looks worse from the outside than it really is. At the very least, it's a lot more productive and feels a lot less unpleasant than other routes like giving up, lashing out, getting a victim complex, etc.
 
I don’t think his frustration at the moment is all that negative. Reading this translation of his responses somehow calmed me down. As skylark commented, he knows himself best. I think at least he is able to calmly evaluate the situation and do what he think he has to do.

Yuzuru has never been the chill type, hasn’t it always been on a scale of serious to intense killer aura? At least for this competition it seems to me like he is more on the serious side, not intense... yet.
 
Toronto was snowed in on Sunday and plane delays went on into Monday.. but after Monday the weather was all clear. Should not have been a days long delay on getting to Europe. Just FYI.
 
My mind totally froze as I saw that he could not get in the combo. Echoing that the rest was just sublime. I know this is Yuzuru's fanfest but Nathan had an awesome skate too.

Did he said that he watched Nathan's score before going on the ice ? (during press con) I don't know what is his usual habits are (maybe he always checks out competitors scores before him), but somehow that strikes me as being not so great psychologically...:scratch2:

Anyhow I don't like to see people blaming the coaches for not being there for the outcome; I think Yuzuru himself will be quite sad if he knows people are doing that. No conspiracy theory please...I am sure the coaches (in this case, a coach) would want to be there if they can.

I don't think there's any doubt that we will see 4lz in the free now. He wants to catch up as much as possible. Coach or no coach I think he will try it...

I haven't seen the order mentioned yet; he is skating 5th so second to last before Nathan. (I guess they are not doing the reverse order thing these days?)

Watching this press con or any press con with Yuzuru in it, I feel “pity” for others because most of the reporters just asked Yuzuru. Nathan is supposedly the star of this conference but how come they asked him very little questions and same as Kevin. It feels like no matter what placement Yuzuru get all just want to talk to him. Well, he’s a G.O.A.T after all and that can’t be measured by single competition.

Yes! he did this all the time. Just like in 2015 NHK Trophy when Boyang Jin hit 95+. He said that seeing Boyang’s score motivates him to do better... and probably the reason why he learned 4Lz

I believe most of the time he mentions Nathan is when the reporter or whoever asks the question mentions Nathan in their question first though.

Or he just needs to do what he needs to do. He is a double Olympic Champion. A living legend. If beating Nathan is his goal then let it be, it is a sport after all and all of the athletes have competetive drive and want to beat somebody, this is how sports work. To some it may seem unhealthy, I get it, but as an athlete myself I can understand him. It is a miracle he even finds any kind of motivation to still compete even though he's clearly the most accomplished skater out there and doesn't need to prove he is the best because he just is.
