Yuzuru Hanyu: 2021-22

Yuzu and Boyang have been friends for years. After watching Yuzu go after the 4A at age 27, Boyang was so inspired he posted: "No matter if I win or lose in the next four years, people would remember there’s a skater called Boyang fighting on ice."

Oh, good. That means Boyang intends to stay around for another Olympic cycle. ☺️
I hope their ankles will let them do what they want.

Some moments of the Gala Finale.

Edit: I'm really sorry these tidbits have been suppressed. The first link wasn't even from an official channel, it was from a fancam.
Those copyright things have reached a very bothersome level: how can it be that a spectator of the Olympic Games cannot share his own filming with other Figure Skating fans? Are Olympic Games a private show?

At last Olympic Channel released videos of Yuzuru Hanyu's Short and Long programs.
They might have wanted to make sure that another skater got views as nobody cares usually, and maybe, that occasional Figure Skating viewers couldn't compare. I'm sorry, I'm a bit salty today.

Warning: these programs are not only exceptional for their quality, they are also moving because of the hole-caused popped 4S in the Short and because of the two falls in the Free.

I agree with Surimi that it's maybe better not to dwell on the possible loss of a friend (who knows if he ever was) but I think it's important to let know that the assertion itself was false.

We don't know anything of their interactions so it's better not to speculate, but out of feelings of justice I confess I'm a bit shocked because this false accusation of making up an excuse might well have hit its target for any other skater than Yuzuru Hanyu.
Why is this false accusation easier to dismiss for Yuzuru Hanyu than for any other skater? There are many arguments, and I believe each of them to be sufficient.
  1. Yuzuru Hanyu never makes up excuses.
  2. His attitude during, and just after his Short Program was crystal-clear. He looked at the hole after the popped jump, he went to show it to the staff between the end of the program and the bows, and he went again to show it to the staff before leaving the ice. This is something he had never done, by the way.
  3. As he is a star, many cameramen and photographs were focused on him, which allowed us to get unmistakable videos and photos of the hole and his showing it to the staff.
  4. His skating, and among others his jumps, are so perfect, precise, his Quadruple Salchows take off so fast (while it is generally admitted that this jump can have a bit of prerotation) that the pure line on the ice of his edge leading to the hole was as unmistakable as the rest.
Calumny often lingers long after truth is established, and often truth can't even be established: I hope it will not be the case here.

I see nothing but 'video unavailable'. Is this geoblocked? And just for you:

Based on fans around the world trying to access the videos, Hanyu's SP and FP videos are specifically geoblocked in US, but the other skaters videos are not (they are available globally). Also his FP was uploaded on day of the FP, and around when it was about to surpass 500K views it was immediately removed, and only now reuploaded again with geoblock in certain regions.

Coincidence? Of course not. :rolleye:

Anyways what is the point of trying to reduce his views when he is topping social media in Japan and worldwide.

They are also targeting really innocuous content on Twitter.

Here's a post-Gala interview, subtitled by AxelWithWing, a remarkable team of translators from Japanese to English dedicated to Yuzuru Hanyu:

And here's an interview of a volunteer who had been accommodated in the same hotel as Yuzuru Hanyu (he was not in the Olympic Village, to avoid too intense a scrutiny) and who was the only Japanese-speaking person in the hotel:

It has never been my intention to post in this fanfest, so I´ll just put it here and will leave but for those still dwelling on Javi´s words, you may want to read this thread by a native speaker and especially this comparison.

Thank you for your input. I understand Spanish so I did get it and I saw it in the translations I read but maybe some other translations were faulty.
His assertions are false nevertheless, as shown by visual evidence and explanations, and he's basically calling Yuzuru Hanyu a liar.
I'm sorry I have to write it here.

I remember when boyang jin landed a 4Lz in NHK 2015, Yuzuru was every inspired to do well too.

Even Kurt Browning whilst doing live commentary for the SP immediately said the pop did not seem like a folly on Hanyu's part, but rather he skated right into a dent in the ice. That is other professionals immediately saw it was not his mistake on the spot. So for Javi to accuse Hanyu of lying is ignorant if not borderline malicious to say the least, particularly when he didn't made the mistake in commentary during live viewing, but day after all the photo evidences of the ice hole were out.

Anyways, on another note, this hydroblade tribute from a Shanghai ballerina is beautiful

Yuzuru Hanyu's trajectory and moves were so pure. They are always more so than others' but in this program it is even more evident. So the origin of the problem was so evident. And we know Javier Fernández did jump Quad Salchows himself.
Now his own coaches have approved Javier Fernández' non-apologies. That's a bitter break-up.
Unexpectedly Patrick Chan was much more supportive. I should try to find his Tweet.

Really? Can you point me? I am a bit out of the loop it seems.
Anyhow, I think Yuzuru will not return to Canada, and if he keeps competing, he'll want to stay in his beloved Japan. I wonder how long he'll continue on his own, but experienced though he is, I would like for him to find a coach, even if just for emotional support by the boards (similar to Kazuki and his coach).
I read yesterday that his 4A was not ratified in the end, which means more incentive for him to go to WC this year, I guess?
