2014 Skate Canada Mens FS 11/01

Oy, these mime-choreography routines. I glanced away and when I looked back Aaron had his hand behind his back. Thought there was a Helgesson malfunction(TM), but evidently he was just "reaching" for a sword/arrow?
Then he seemed to be picking up snow during the FW sequence?

it's very much a pastiche of Yagudin, isn't it? But still better than Footloose, imo...

Oh Kozuka, how the mighty fall :cry: I get that his style isn't for everyone, but....

I'll just watch and see Max Aaron get a higher SS mark than Kozuka just to rub salt into my wounds

He didn't fall in this performance. Haven't people been clamoring that it's better to pop than fall?

Whatever his problem is with his jumps (equipment? mental? physical?), Kozuka is a beautiful skater.

Great Max, even with some problems on a couple of landings. This is definitely a good fp for Max which can build throughout the season. Max was able to work for the PCS but he still needs more development in that aspect. With Max's 71+ PCS mark, I still say Adam should have scored at least 75+ on PCS (even with his tech mistakes), but once again judges tend to limit PCS for some skaters when they don't perform a number of jumps well particularly the revolutions -- those oh so important over-rated revolutions.

I admire Max's jumps, which are joy to watch, while I want see little more between those jumps.

How are Max's PCS higher than skaters like Liam or Adam???

PCS means nothing. I don't even believe in them any more. Might as well roll a dozen dice and whatever comes up is what the skater gets.

Actually he drew the sword twice in not-very-long, which was a bit weird for me.

The choreographic tweaks to Footloose worked; I don't like most of the choreo tweaks for Gladiator. We wuzrobbed of DRAMA with the new end pose.

I am so happy.

I can see Max getting better PCS than Liam because simply put when skaters deliver on the tech, the system as it currently stands gives them extra PCS. Plus, I like Max's improvement and his overall fp is much stronger than Liam's. I don't see Max getting better PCS than Adam, but again that's because judges have no faith in Adam's jumping, despite his gorgeous skating.

ITA. Can't believe in the scores these days. I will tell myself to only look at the placements.

a smile and a great sigh of relief from carriere

i actually like this program!

This is the best I've seen Stephen skate in a long time. Love Clair de Lune! :)

I agree, that was a nice program. A guy just did Clair de lune, which I didn't think can work with most men's skating. I thought the 2nd part lyrics work as well. Nice package, good lyrical skater.

Another solid skate by Stephen Carriere, but I really didn't understand the combination of the two pieces of music...??
