2015 Worlds Ladies Short Program March 26

So suddenly only 3 women at this event have trouble with edges. I guess there are miracles after all.

It's more like, there are only three jumping passes, and most women are smart enough to avoid the jumps that would give them problems in the short.

You're right, of course. Mao had the balls to do the 3A is which a lot more than any of the other ladies of her era could say. I'm hurting over Brooklee and should not have said that.

I feel awful about Brooklee... the crowd really felt for her. But hey, she had a personal best at Skate America this season, so at least that's some progress, even if the latter half of the season was poor.

Ok, I want in on the fuel-fire fun factor. I dislike her "sloppy" no-extension arms going into jumps. Her 3A was a bit off axis, and her 2nd 3T has a scratchy landing. Toe pick!

:laugh2:

Joking aside.... Mishin, PLEASE hire a better choreographer. *ahem* Gal-pal Moskvina should be on your speed dial!

Word.

Anyway, I don't mind a telegraphed jump as long as the jump itself is worth the wait. Carolina spent a long time setting up her jumps. Yuna did crossovers into 3Lz-3T. But they absolutely deserve high GOE. If Carolina's off and does her crossovers into a popped jump, that's when there's a problem.

I also think for a particularly difficult element (or, in Liza's case, the hardest element), telegraphing is fine. It's when skaters telegraph a 2A that drives me nuts.

Agreed! No shame being second to that

Nah, Lena's jump GOE's are pretty much what they always are, and her spins were a little underrated (Especially the CCo-one (seriously, it's got awesome positions (even a new cool one!), What does the girl have to do to get better GOE's for that) Liza got way higher GOE's score for her version)

But, I agree that couple of the judges were evil to her at the PCS department.

Radionova looked like she fought hard on her jumps, especially the loop. The 2A was improved though. She basically did all she could do and enough to cement herself firmly in 2nd and set herself up for the FS. She goes before Liza, so she might as well go all out without pressure of being in first and force Liza to skate well.

Liza has a sizable lead, but as we've seen, the difference between a clean skate and a skate with a fall is usually more than the exact number of points lost on a fall. Liza has risen to the occasion in the SP, and now it's up to her to do the same again in the FS. She looked very strong though - I mean that 3Z was just wonderful.

Will Liza jumps 3A in the LP? At this moment I think she only needs the old layout at GPF.

No way. She doesn't need it. She should stick with the FS layout that has been working for her. She has all of next season to make history with an 8-triple LP. She's already made history with the SP, so right now, she needs to focus on getting her first World title.

Her goal of the 3A paid off, in that it distanced herself considerably from Radionova, so the FS would be less of a could-go-either-way scenario.

They are what they always are... which I almost always disagree with. I like Lena and all, but none of her jumps (lutz-toe in particular) should receive more than +1 (they should not, however, receive negative GOE like some strange people suggested at Europeans). As for the spins, Lena's "money spin" is her layback; unfortunately, it was noticeably slower than usual. She usually gets well-deserved +3s across the board, and this time it was a mix of +2s and +3s.

Anyway, small details. I'd have given Lena 70. Huge props to her for not melting down like everyone else.

Speaking of spins, Anna replaced the illusion with an I-spin. How does everyone feel about that?

She's got the cushion, I think she should leave it and just go with what she has.

Of course, she may now be riding sky-high on confidence and be perfectly able to deal with it.

Agree with that. So happy for Liza and Mishin!!!

Her layback was slower and off-centre, but I'm not surprised judges automatically gave it +3. I mean, Gold's layback got a ton of +3's too, and Radionova's was superior in position (maybe not speed though).

Please. At least it was fully rotated. I know you can't accept that somebody other than Mao is doing a 3A, but don't even try to pretend like that was a bad 3A attempt - especially for as you said her first attempt in a major international competition.

I am sorry but your clairvoyant powers are off the mark. Those kinds of telepathic hocus pocus only work for Yuna fans. Please 3A's are my favorite jumps, I for one want to see more women doing 3A's and doing entries a la Hanyu. I was just expecting a little bit more after all the hype Liza's 3A has been getting. If you think that was a great 3A then so be it but please stop with the mind reading Professor X:laugh:.

Please "not impressed". At least it was undeniably fully rotated. I know you can't accept that somebody other than Mao is doing a 3A, but don't even try to pretend like that was a bad or unimpressive 3A attempt - especially for as you said her first attempt in a major international competition.

Also, unlike Mao, Tukt landed a 3-3 as well to boot.

Haha, that was a great reply.

Some people are just ridiculous with their "same old, same old". The thing is that either we like it or not, the World is evolving AS WE speak. Don't hate on Liza because her skating is just too HOT for you. ;)

To be honest, even other mens can't do Hanyu entrance let alone ladies doing it for 3A when only 1 women is now attempting it :laugh2:

I don't remember reading anything about Liza changing her rock solid free skate! They were talking about sp all the time. I think that's a potential next season change.

Liza was great. The choreography arguably isn't the best of quality, but I did not see any program that much better today. The telegraphing really wasn't that bad. This Bolero program wasn't a piece of art to begin with, so I don't mind it being experimented with.

I only got to the arena after Edmunds had finished. Of the last ten ladies, I was the most impressed with Gracie and Kanako. Both have great skating skills and probably deserved a bit higher PCS. Meite, Zijun and Wagner are the weakest in SS, and after Wagner botched her jumps she didn't really "perform" much either. She was more than a bit gifted.

I still think Gracie would win bronze here.
