2015 Worlds Ladies Short Program March 26

Still gutted for the US ladies. Polina was completely hosed, one point ahead of Gracie with no combo and 2 bad landings after a clean skate?
Gold was mega gifted. I'd have her behind Alaine (clean skate with just one <) and Pogo (she at least landed a decent 3lz-3t) definitely and probably Ashley too (she fell on her combo but at least she did a combo). Since when does +COMBO get the full base value of the jump and just -3 GOE? I thought it was supposed to be 80% of the BV and then -3 on top of it?
Overall just bad judging tonight. Liza was amazeballs and Radionova did well, but Kanako should be ahead of Satoko and Rika, Zijun, and Polina should be much closer to Satoko than they are. Don't get me wrong, Satoko was great, but her jumps should be getting 0s and -1s across the board, not the +1s and +2s she got! I mean, her 3lz-3t outscored Polina's, which is out of line considering Satoko's jumps barely leave the ice.
With the scores the way they are now, I think Satoko will medal if she stays upright and rotates most of her jumps. In theory, the podium isn't out of reach for the Americans, especially because 2 of the Japanese girls ahead of them are UR prone and the 3rd doesn't get great PCS, but idk, they don't have great draws and Satoko is 5+ points ahead of Polina (who may suffer on PCS based on what she got in the SP), 6+ points ahead of Gracie (who has to skate first in the penultimate group and hasn't had a clean FS all season), and 9+ points ahead of Ashley (who has the best odds of pulling up but is also the farthest behind). Skating in the penultimate group, Ashley can beat Satoko by maybe 5 points in PCS, but not by 9, so Satoko will need URs and/or mistakes for Ashley to pull ahead.
I hope Ashley can rebound with a great FS like she did at the GPF, but unfortunately her chances of pulling up for a medal are much less here. At GPF, her SP score was 3 points higher, she was 3 points out of 3rd instead of more than 9, and she only had to overtake 3 ladies to nab the bronze as opposed to here where she'd need to overtake 8. Plus with Shin Amano as the caller and the 2 URs she got in the SP...things don't look good.
I think the US ladies will pull up enough for 3 spots, but I doubt any of them will make it to the podium. Things not looking great for Anna either, I'm wondering if at this point she should just withdraw? She is clearly hurting and I'm not sure gutting it out here to finish around 5th-12th place (hopefully not worse) is going to do her reputation any good. She already got world ranking points for her bronze medal at Euros so the points she gets here are unlikely to even count. If she does compete I just hope she won't hurt herself more! That was a very gutsy skate for her today, I actually thought the spins looked much improved!

Liza has great trajectory. She had to hold her knees down to get a super clean rotation here but I can't wait until she REALLY nails that 3A 
Can you really say that about Ashley? She's full of fight. We kinda expected an issue with the 3-3.

Mao's 3As significantly deteriorated after puberty hit. Her 3As when she was young were huge, effortless and sometimes even done out of brackets, which is super-difficult!
That said, Liza's 3A here was more impressive than most of Mao's post-puberty 3As. The spring Liza achieved was incredible, and there was no question of UR for me at all. Queen Tukt

not from here but in anotger interview and her coach said that she is ill. She felt badly yesterday and then today on the way to arena felt worse, and it turned out she had a temperature..
This might be the reason
Smaller # of people to overcome and benefited from bad skates from competitors.
Oh no. Well I hope she doesn't get worse!

Ashley should have stuck with her usual layout. Worrying about the lutz edge and trying to get the 3-3 around is too much to think about in the SP.
Gracie skates faster and more recklessly in competition when she's nervous, this results in her jumping right next to the boards and botching landings/aborting combos because of it. This needs to be addressed. The pops I get can be an instantaneous reaction to something not being right, but the jumps by the boards can be avoided. Train your programs doing your jumps way clear of the boards in practice so you don't come so close in competition! This has happened so many times now that it's just getting silly.
As for Polina. Your flip does take off an inside edge, so stop riding the outside edge until the very last second and the ! will go away. The jump is not the issue, the way she sets it up is. If you were aware you were rocking on an outside edge into the jump, switch off of it earlier so the judges aren't confused and dock you for it. She's right that she can do a flip, her flip is just more like a flutz the way she sets it up (in that it sets up with an outside edge and then goes to the inside when she picks in). At least she didn't get the e. Still bugged by her low score.

I thought Polina had lots of fight. Also after seeing Satoko, I think the US will rebound with the huge jumps of Karen Chen next year.

Yes, I am not saying Ashley will make to the podium, but to say she has no fight is not fair.

I personally don't think Ashley did herself any favors by skipping 4CC. Really, at this point, I don't know what to think about U.S. ladies. Should I laugh or cry?

She was sick another time too this season and her back was taped at Rus Nats. So much
poor girl.

Well, double edge sword. If she did really bad at 4CC and was defeated by Rika, Satoko or even Gracie, her reputation might have taken a hit. But I agree with you it was her chance to prove her self once again against international judges.

I see what you mean, but going 2 months without competition already made me anxious for her. I kinda saw this coming, judging from that. Anyway, she still has the chance to redeem herself in the fs.
Liza: WOW! I was 
after that 3A. I am not a fan of hers yet because I think her choreo and presentation are pretty boring, but still, what an INSPIRATION. Personally, my life has been a slump these days, and she just motivated me to try harder and never give up.
Radionova: She looked very nervous and tired today. Not the best performance from her but clean nonetheless. She definitely grew a bit taller.
Miyahara: Her jumps were low as usual, but in my eyes (and I am very, very critical of UR), they were rotated. But like people have been mentioning, she should be getting 0s and -1s for her jumps. Everything else was very nice though! Excellent SS, Interpretation, etc.
Murakami: Great skate! A bit underscored IMO. Should have scored around a 67 like Miyahara (less difficult jumps than Miyahara but better quality) I love the timing of the layback spin at the end to the climax of the music. It was awesome to see her reaction in K&C. She always puts a smile to my face. The question is: Will she do well in the free? (History tells us that she most likely won't, unfortunately....)
Rika Hongo: Not the most exciting skate, but very solid. She does not know how to mess up.
Zijun Li: She is so pretty (TBH, she's my ideal woman. Probably for many other guys too. Hehe.
, and today, her skating was much more refined compared to say, last year. Her speed in the step sequence definitely got faster. I'm glad she's finally adjusting to her new body.
Polina Edmunds: Solid skate, but UR and edge call problems will trap her. She needs to wake up and realize that she LIPS and should try to fix it. Hope she doesn't get any taller...
Gracie Gold: As expected, a bad skate. Especially after Liza. Oh well. If she wants it badly enough, she'll go clean one day in the future I guess.
Anna Pogo: The fall was harsh. I felt sorry for her. Her spins definitely were improved though. Someone suggested that she should withdraw. I don't think she will because it might be her last chance at Worlds TBH (too much young Russian talent...)
Alaine Chartrand: Solid, but kind of boring to me. And her 3T is always UR.
Ashley Wagner: In line with my expectations, she messes up at the biggest competition like the past (probably because she knew that she had a shot at bronze). All jumps very messy. And she was kind of rude to the audience after the performance, not really greeting them I remember..
So Youn Park: WILL SHE EVER SKATE A CLEAN SP? AHHHHHHHHHH. She has potential, but if she keeps messing up, she will be vanishing in the eyes of the judges. Hoping for a clean free from her tomorrow. PLEASE, LIKE LAST YEAR!!
