2015 Worlds Ladies Short Program March 26

I personally don't think Ashley did herself any favors by skipping 4CC. Really, at this point, I don't know what to think about U.S. ladies. Should I laugh or cry?

Definitely not laugh. I am sure Gracie and Ashley probably did some crying and I almost did too. So disappointing that neither of them did well. Didn't expect it from Ashley. As for Gracie, I kind of expected it and that makes me sad.

Were people upthread saying they saw tape on Ashley's back? She needed to be at her absolute best to contend here. Is she dealing with injury?

The tape was a light color and you could see it through the flesh-colored illusion fabric at/above her waist on her back.

Ashley seems to keep reverting back to her, "I WANT THIS SOOOO BAD," mode and she ends up jinxing herself. She needs to stop trying so hard and just let it happen otherwise it never will. I expect her to fight back in the long.

I really wonder how Gracie will perform in the LP. Normally her SP is the stronger part while in the long she makes those usual 1/2 errors. Her back is really up against the wall so perhaps this will be the moment when she finally lets it go and skates a clean long.

Who would have thought one month ago the most positive feeling among the US ladies would be for Polina

I agree that that mindset of "I WANT THIS SOOOOO BAD" is preventing her from doing well in big competitions. She really needs to just let go, just try her best like in practice, and let what will happen happen. Of course, figure skating is always 70-80% mental.

Polina's my least favorite of the three but I have to hand it to her. She may take over the US next year.

LOL. But what's the value in taking over the US if you're going to lose to all the Russians and Japanese skaters. Sigh...

I really want to know if she's injured. I think she can be confident when the pieces are all there, but maybe not otherwise. What she needs to learn next is what Elena did, fight through not being 100%.

Yes it's not that high praise. She needs to up her game too.

I agree, but it appears that she thinks she has perfect jumping technique and that the judges are crazily unfair. That won't lead to much improvement I'm afraid....

I am sorry but your clairvoyant powers are off the mark. Those kinds of telepathic hocus pocus only work for Yuna fans. Please 3A's are my favorite jumps, I for one want to see more women doing 3A's and doing entries a la Hanyu. I was just expecting a little bit more after all the hype Liza's 3A has been getting. If you think that was a great 3A then so be it but please stop with the mind reading Professor X:laugh:.

If 3A's are your favourite jump, you would legitimately acknowledge that Liza's triple axel was superior to many of Mao's axels (even with your blatant bias).

It actually took off the toe unlike Mao's skid take off, it got more height than Mao's (instead of depending on tight rotation), it actually gets distance, unlike Mao's which is up and down, and the rotation is unquestionable, unlike Mao's, Liza's axel (which the landing edge wasn't the most solid) had more flow on the runout than Mao's. Mao certainly is the queen of 3A, in terms of consistency, but I think the majority of us here acknowledge Liza's 3A was better.

And what "little bit more" were you expecting? She landed it and it was a strong jump. If you want to see more women to do 3A attempts why do you trivialize what was very obviously a strong triple axel by Liza?

Murakami: Great skate! A bit underscored IMO. Should have scored around a 67 like Miyahara (less difficult jumps than Miyahara but better quality) I love the timing of the layback spin at the end to the climax of the music. It was awesome to see her reaction in K&C. She always puts a smile to my face. The question is: Will she do well in the free? (History tells us that she most likely won't, unfortunately....)

YEs Murakami's jumps are higher than Miyahara for sure but Murakami's jumping technique are not good at all. Her flip shouldn't get any +1.

Satoko's jump technique is more flawed than Kanako. Satoko pre rotated almost a whole revolution on toe pick. Ask Sam's slow motion video.

Tuka!!!!!!!! How I love thee. She is beautiful, athletic, and the way she performs is just spectacular. Swoon.......

In this competition, where it mattered, I think Satoko rotated all her jumps. I also think she had a beautiful step sequence, timed perfectly to the music. To me, she's an exquisite skater.
