2015 Worlds Men Short Program March 27

I'm sorry but I will take a performance like this from Yuzuru over that tacky program of Jason Brown. Even with the one mistake, the quality of skating of Hanyu compared to Jason is clear (at least to me)... The same with Denis's free skate. Best programs of the season hands down.

Won't be able to watch the event until tonight, but I just checked out the scores. Jason is the only men in the top ten to receive zero negative GOE from the judges. Seriously, whatever Kori is doing to make him skate so clean is working.

Or you can play devil's advocate and say it's easy to get all positive GOE when you don't do a quad. But yes, that is pretty cool to see no - signs! However no +3 to be seen on spins or steps (he got a whole bunch of them in 4CC). So he still left points on the table. (Hey, they make a difference). Oh well, I guess you can't have it all sometimes.

:hopelessness:My Denis Ten.... it was such a bad luck ... I read this board before going to watch it. I thought he was gonna disastrous. But, he still skated so well, especially the final stsq, which saddens me even more. He seemed to be so relaxed and well-prepared in the practice/warm-up. Sigh.... But he has the best FS this season, so.....

Yuzu was awesome. I am not his fan, but this makes me understand why he is loved by the people and the judges. Exquisite transition from 3A to eagle, spins and ss.

I loved when Fernando holds a Tigger doll, a Winnie the Pooh's best friend at the K&C. SO CUTE!!!!
I am happy for Amodio, He must be so excited and motivated by the win of his compatriots in ID.
Did you see Han Yan hi-fived Jason on his way to K&C? They are adorable.

The GOE on Hanyu's 3/3: -1 to 3. Ridiculous.

His GOE was all over the place. One judge gave him +1 on his great 3A with difficult entrance/exit; that same judge also gave him +1 or 0 on everything except the 4T (-2). Another judge thought the stumble/fall on the 4T was only worth -1.

I knew Kovtun would bomb right after I saw he would have to skate after Hanyu.
Kozuka broke my heart again but I was kind of prepared.

As for Hanyu. Well, I'll just quote what Max Trankov said after this skate: this is what "figure skating" is supposed to be. And he's the only one nailing it.
Too bad we never managed to see this program executed perfectly. It deserved it.

Wait, Maxim Trankov said that? Was he commentating again?

I was hoping for a clean Chopin (and usually his 4T is consistent). I thought he got this one in the bag but then again, ice is slippery.

But what the heck was up with that music glitch for Denis? Damn, if I was Denis I would've blown up at whoever was the music coordinator. Talking about ruining your groove!

And to think that Japan is going to lose 3 spots for men. I have a hard time seeing how Mura or Kozuka can pull through their free skates and get those spots. Both Mura and Kozuka had been very inconsistent lately. I just don't see it happening unless everyone else bombs.

Does it make me a bad person that the idea of USA losing 3 spots stings less when I realize it is unlikely any countries will have three spots next year? Ten/Fernandez could earn them, but their countries are unlikely to fill those spots. So 2016 could be the year of no 3s. I make a joke about this in the wishes thread, I suddenly feel very guilty.

Makes me wish Machida was still skating, at least for this Worlds, or I wish Shoma Uno was skating for the seniors this year.

Yuzu, your country needs you, or Japan could loose 2 spots instead of just one. :hopelessness:

It's not about him, he did more than enough. I don't want to jinx him, but Top5 is guarantted for him. It's about Mura and Kozuka.

Btw, it's ,,lose''. ;)

Are you a prophet or what? You jinxed it!

Basically, I'm psychicaly preparing for what you summed up.

In my defense I did also propose a scenario where 6 countries earn 3 spots!

In some ways it is kinda neat that so many different countries are in the top ten.

And I will not, which is why we have skating discussion boards. Far from being tacky, Juke has grown in my eyes to a skilled interpretation of the African American blues idiom of the 40s and 50s. The music or idiom may not be someone's favorite. But it doesn't make it tacky or cheesy.

HanYan was really really low balled in here. he should have crack the 90+ score for what he did.

Han Yan highlights why I wish PCS were scored properly. They should score him through the roof for SS and TR and score him a bit lower for IN and CH.
Like most skaters, he is scored about the same for everything. --Shouldn't happen.

I don't think Max was watching the same competition. Jason and Han, nailed it. They performed programs that show what figure skating is supposed to be. Yuzu? at this competition so far? Don't see it. :disapp:

Sorry I should have probably be more specific. He was talking about the program itself and the way he skates it. Comparing it to Javi I believe he said it's just on "absolutely another level". Honestly, I agree. I see the huge difference as well although I like Javier a lot and would probably put him first today.

Wait, Maxim Trankov said that? Was he commentating again?

Yes, he was. He promised otherwise, didn't he?.. :) Mao88 has posted the video with his commentary https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fhi_z5Hey9g

Okay. Finally watch Kovtun`s sp and I feel bad for the guy now. Maybe he needs to go to Mishin or something to help with his technique and confidence.

He needs to learn not bail out of the jumps. Learn from Yuzu - take the fall, but rotate rotate rotate!

Look at his protocols: zero points for 2T, zero points for 1A. (The 2T was a zayak? But why was the single axel invalid?) Clean 2A would have placed him above Josh.

scenario for the six countries with 3 spots LOL curious here

My idea was:

1. D10
2. Javi
3. Japan
4. Russia
5. USA
6. China
7. China
8. USA
9. Russia
10. Japan

Would give six countries the spots, but again unlikely to see Kaz and Spain fill them. It would still be cool to see.

Hypothetically something like

1. Japan
2. USA
3. Russia
4. China
5. Canada
6. OTHER
7. OTHER
8. Canada
9. China
10. Russia
11. USA
12. Japan

Would also allow for six countries to send 3 skaters each.
