I've been wondering about something lately. Some people accuse Patrick of "not being expressive." Part of this is probably because of his lack of facial expression during competitive programs. But he does have a wonderful smile and it appears often in show programs (Steppin' Out, Don't Worry Be Happy, etc). He smiled a little bit in Take Five, which got me thinking. If Patrick skated to upbeat music competitively more often (as opposed to the classical, lyrical stuff that he's so good at), would he be more likely to smile in competition? Would smiling help relax him, allowing him to actually skate better? Or, would smiling be more likely to cause him to lose focus? A separate question is, would this endear him to more fans (seems to work for Javi

)
We know from his recent comments that he admired P&C's FD at Worlds this year, which, again, is in that lyrical mold. He "felt something" watching it (heck, I did too) and wants people to "feel something" when he skates. I wonder if he thinks programs have to be a certain type to do that? He's a huge fan of Kurt Browning, so maybe not. I think there was a rumor that he might use Best of Me for the SP next season. I kind of hope he does something more fast-paced. Esqualo might work, but you can't really smile during a tango. I love Patrick's lyrical side but I think he could do more to show off his fun side in competition. But maybe that's asking too much.
Let's discuss!
