Slow Motion Jump Editing (AKA: Sam's Jump-a-ma-tron)

Here it is:

Yuzuru Hanyu & Han Yan 3A Triple Axel Jumpamatron (1080p HD)

Tried to capture the flow going in & out of the 3A for both Yuzu and Han. Unfortunately, the camera work was pretty bad in Shanghai so the camera angles were rather limited, but at the same time, it was easy to sync up similar shots as they were from the same event.

I'm never sure exactly what people want to see. Split-screens at normal speed? Split-screens in slow-motion? Picture-inside-a-picture at normal speed and/or slow motion? Zoomed in closeups?

Open to suggestions, for both video editing and other skaters to feature here. Keep in mind, though, that my ability to edit these videos is dependent on having good quality footage of the event, and camera angles are typically limited, making jump comparisons difficult and may not sync up perfectly between two skaters no matter which editing tricks I use.

Awesome! You've brought one thing to light...Han Yan seems to have a bit more airtime than Yuzu. Maybe it's because his jump is longer?

They both go in at pretty much full speed and have lots of speed going out too.

EDIT: Maybe not...I just realized I was looking at the slowmo. And maybe that made Han's jump seem longer.
Anyway, I could look at 3A's like this all day and be happy. :cheer:

EDIT2: and for those interested,
Yuzu got 11.78 for this 3A (second half bonus) GOE 2.43
Yan got 10.93 GOE 2.43

-This is the highest GOE for an element given out for the men's short program at WC2015.

Ahhh, yes, full disclosure: I modify the velocity (speed) of some of these clips when doing comparison videos. Generally, the normal speed clips are left alone during the actual jumps in real-time, but many of the other clips are modified in such a way that they have either take-off and/or landing in sync, giving the appearance of the jumps being done in unison (otherwise it would be a discombobulated mess to watch). Nothing major though, usually we're talking fractions of a second.

The 'official' slow-motion replays are interesting for me to edit, because I have no idea what speed the producers used in the broadcast playback, so I'm at a loss at explaining that one in detail.

Thx for keeping the thread going :cheer:

The 3a videos are great and I'm going to have to learn how the SBS is done so I can join in too. Funny thing is I started making an earth day video that imposed skaters on glaciers and scenic landscapes that I never finished and that was the first time I started to fool with the panning options for zooming and cropping. I'm such a newb at this

I haven't really sat in front of a computer much since I did the pairs video that received good reviews here but didn't really generate many views. TBH it's just been really nice outside so I've been soaking up the outdoors whenever I can escape the rink.

Can't let this die just because it's off-season, right? ;)

Evidently, you are not alone. Looks like my video of Yuzu/Han 3A's picked up steam over the past several hours, hitting around 700 estimated views at the moment (most of them within the last 5 hours).

Your link got picked up by a famous Japanese Figure Skating and Yuzu blogger.

Neat! That explains the sudden ballooning in views (hundreds per hour now). Did they say anything interesting or were they just sharing the link?

Time to bump this thread...! ;)

I came across a YouTube video for 'Bolero' doing something like this, but I wanted to see Liza's FS done in similar fashion, so I used the split-screens to make it work... and ended up being surprisingly easy once I got the template completed if I were to do this again... but who else has 9 programs from the same season? Anyone want to see any other programs this season put together like this?

In a single 8 minute video, here are Elizaveta Tuktamysheva's FS from 9 competitions this season (WTT, Worlds, Euros, Nationals, GPF, Cup of China, Skate America, Finlandia, Nebelhorn):

I have a few days off early next week and could use some suggestions to edit. I'm cool with doing either jumpamatrons, fan videos, or event mash ups. Feel free to offer musical selections and specific programs. If your into watching these videos just chime in and offer up ideas or I'll just find one myself.

Well, I would love a detailed analysis of how Mao's 3flip-3loop combo at Sochi and Worlds 2014 could possibly be an under-rotation.
