Skaters on Team Japan

I agree that the description ”色気” just suits for Daisuke.
Oh, I meant that Daisuke described Marin as having 色気 but I just checked the video where he talked about it and he was talking more about "色っぽさ" of her movements. (6:35-)

By the way, how about Sota? (Sorry, one after another..). Rink in DOI was small and it influenced his skating… I am going to Nagaoka, and most favorite is Sota. Nagaoka show has a respectively small number of skaters, so I expect he will do 2 programs…
Yeah, Sota's jumps were not there that day because of the rink size or he was just having an "off" day. Sota is also one of the reasons why I went to DOI but there were others who skated much better than him so his performance temporarily faded into the background for me. I thought his Poeta was promising and he looked very mature. I liked it much better after watching the TV broadcast.
I hope Sota takes his jumps with him to Nagaoka  Please tell us about it when you return if you have time

at first i thought so too but her Wikipage also says it was Tom
btw hamaguri in case you missed it her SP music is Fire Dance and LP music is Un Sospiro from Franz Liszt

The English Wikipedia seems to have the wrong information…
Satoko's SP last season was by Lori Nichol, FS by Tom Dickson. Stephane did her "Let Her Go" EX.
https://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/宮原知子#.E3.83.97.E3.83.AD.E3.82.B0.E3.83.A9.E3.83.A0
This season's SP will be done by Tom, FS by Lori and she has one EX by Jeffrey Buttle and a new one by Stephane. She has an all-star cast of choreographers!

I didn't know that Firedance was from Riverdance. So both Satoko and Rika will use music from Riverdance. Will anyone be complaining about that?

i am sure there will be complaints, whether related to music choice or not to be honest  its still early to tell though, i hope we will see her programs at The Ice
and i hope they will correct that mistake, i know ppl sometimes complain about Lori's "princessy" style but i liked that program for Satoko (minus the costume XD )

Thanks matmuh! I can't help expecting both of them, but especially Fire Dance. I loved Tom Dikson’s work for Mura’s POTO last year.Of course, Miss.Saigon was a masterpiece!

Considering the last year’s Japan team’s “POTO PARTY”, it may not matter Satoko and Rika will use the same line of music:biggrin:.

I want Lori to add more strong elements to Satoko’s FP this year. Now Satoko is the World silver medalist. Of course, I'm sure Lori will give her the coreo suitable for current Satoko.;). I loved Lori’s work with Kozuka’s FP last year. That was powerful and worked well with Koduka's splended skating skills.

I’ve never seen the video. Thank you. It’s interesting to see Daisuke also said “色気” is not to be thought:shocked:.

DOI’s small rink killed his speed and jumps. I extensively expect Sota this year:cheer2:. I would like him to be the Junior Champion and go to the Senior category smoothly.
Of course, I will make a Nagaoka report for Sota in detail;). Finger crossed for him doing 2 programs!

I have not yet heard.. I heard Satoko will have Stephan choreograph in her SP or so. I’m worried about Kanako's injury. I hope her quick recovery.

Thanks hamaguri, I too hope Kanako will become free from injury soon. :cheer2:

Thanks! Please let us know if you find out who choreographed Sota's Poeta. I'm wondering if it's Rika's mother again.
I just looked at the cast of Nagaoka ice shows. So there are 15 skaters? They might have the pro skaters and senior skaters skate twice, but I don't know if they'd do that to junior and novices. Still, there are only 3 shows so fingers crossed for you!

Oh, the choreographer of Poeta hasn’t yet known?
(And I don’t know Rika’s mother is a choreographer. Does she work as a coach?).

BTW, can you see landing off of jumps? I was thinking about yuzu’s edge error in fritz. I want to confirm his edge in fritz, but I can’t tell the outside or inside edge right. SEIMEI includes fritz, so I tried to see the edge... Can he totally succeed in correcting the edge error?

Here at FaOI we have a very clear angle of the flip jump: https://youtu.be/1WN4UNO-6Ow?t=54s
It's correct inside edge. Not very clear like, for example Carolina's inside edge on the flip, but it's an inside edge on the take off.
You can use slow motion function on youtube.

I don't think the choreographer has been mentioned yet… but I might have just missed it. Rika's mother has choreographed all of Sota's programs for the past 2 seasons. I don't know what exactly her role is, but I think she's on Nagakubo's coaching team because she sat with his students in the K&C at Nationals (off the top of my head, Rika, Sota, Hino, Nitaya).

Re: take-off edges, I have to look closely at slow-mo but even then, I can't distinguish the fine line between some of the calls being made

Thanks, mikaboo for giving me information. I don’t know well about Japanese Junior or Novice. Actually, I got to know about figure skate after Sochi. Of course, I loved figure skate before Sochi, as I’d watched figure skate competitions on TV since I was a child. But I’d neither known about figure skate deep nor been to shows or competitions live until I fell in love with yuzu at sochi. Now I’m fascinated with figure skate itself more and more. When I go to the show, I think to myself, “How wonderful figure skate is!”:).
Re. Even for mikaboo, distinguishing the edge is difficult! It’s no wander I can’t see it right:scratch:…

Also, Cathy Reed has moved to Japan and will work as a choreographer. Go Cathy!

Oh, Cathy’s blog almost brought me a tear:cry:… We can’t say thank her enough for her contribution to Japanese figure skate. She’s hurt her body to such an extent.. I dreadfully wish her a quick recovery and the future:cheer:.

Thank you Meoima! This film captured the angle well. I was worrying about his edge. At last season, he almost corrected it, but he got “!” once at WC, in my memory.
And I never knew about the slow motion function itself. Hearing it from you, I look it up on the internet. This function will be of great help to me! ;)

I assure you, you've seen more competitions than me and probably have more knowledge too
I'm just more interested in trivial things that nobody cares about!

Can someone please translate Cathy's blog? Google Translate isn't working so well...

This is a very rough translation and Cathy is not a native Japanese speaker so I might have misunderstood some things.

Sorry for not updating the blog for a long time.

As you all know, it was announced on June 17 that Chris has formed a team with Kana-chan so we have to end this blog of ours.

I'll talk about what's been going on for the past 3 weeks.
From June 15, I spent a week rehabilitating and studying Japanese.
From June 20, I returned to Canton, Detroit to say goodbye to my coaches and training mates.
I started packing up to move out from my apartment.
I only lived there for 1 year, but I was able to make many memories…
I saw Chris for the first time in a long time and I met Kana-chan and I was able to watch them practice.
These two will develop the Japanese ice dance for the future!
They have wonderful qualities to do so.
And I will give my utmost support for them!
Kana-chan is a very attractive girl!
Everyone, please support them!

After packing, I was surprised about the amount of my belongings.
I can't believe I have so much!
We got everything in the truck and with my sister Alison, who was in Detroit at the time, got in my car and went for our 10 hour drive to New Jersey.
Super mama (her mom?) drove the truck with all my luggage.

The things I learned from Marina, the top coach in the world, I will make good use of, and teach to my future students.

Our house in New Jersey has been on sale since February, but it hasn't been sold yet so we put my luggage from Canton there temporarily. Alison also moved out from her apartment and is back home so it became a family reunion minus Chris.

Last week, I did rehabilitation and got a check up by the doctor and my shoulder is recovering well. But I still can't lift heavy things up. It'll take about 3 weeks more.
I spent some fun times with close friends and left for Japan on July 4th by Delta Airways from Newark via Detroit.

This was supposed to be the beginning of my new life…
but the flight from Detroit got delayed by
1 hour
2 hours
5 hours
6 hours
8 hours
9 hours
10 hours

Until it got cancelled…
On the day of my new beginning…

It seems as though Detroit wanted me to stay one more day…
But I was very mad!
The flight got rescheduled to 8AM the following day and now I have arrived in Narita!

I'm heading towards Osaka now!
I was given a job to choreograph.
I'm really happy!
I'm very excited!

thank you so much! I don't need anything specific, just the main idea. I hope to learn japanese one day! For now, Mandarin is my focus!
