Max Aaron

Actually, it only applies to this OP. ;) and other really long OP's with multiple editors.

If possible, I try to leave stuff the way other editors wrote it, especially the original poster's work ( in this case karne) But when half of a section is in one style and half is in another, someone has to decide which way to go for a uniform style for a partcular section of the document.

In this case, that happened in the articles and threads sections of Max's OP.

For better or worse, this time, the last editor was me, and I made the choice for a simple, unadorned block style, for the reasons I gave. But I have no problem with the OP owner of any thread reformatting my stuff to look the way they prefer it to look as long as they keep the content.

Ultimately, the owner of the OP is the person whose name is on the OP, and I would not want them to be unhappy with what appeared next to their name.

My dear Doris, I literally cannot thank you enough for all the labor that you are putting into all the OPs.
I assure you that I agree that too many cooks can spoil the broth. :agree:
That is why in future I plan to keep a safe distance away from any fan OPs that were mine. (And I will think many times before starting any new fan threads.)

You misunderstood the small comments I made in my post above.
- I was just explaining that I had not purposely added a lot of new formatting to my suggestion for those two old articles to be included in the OP.
My crime for the most part was that it did not occur to me that it would be helpful to remove existing formatting when I quoted the old posts that had the links. Now that you have pointed out that formatting is a hindrance to your OPs, I will remove existing formatting the next time that I am quoting old posts in a suggestion/request for an OP.
- And I was just saying that when I am adding a new post to an existing thread (and not requesting that the content be edited into the OP), my assumption is that it is unnecessary to refrain from formatting.

Thanks again for everything, Doris.

I really would not want you to feel uncomfortable about starting a fan fest. That was my point. Max's thread is an unusual case, because neither of the two collaborating editors, you or I, is the OP owner. And all 3 of us, including karne, contribute to Max's thread from time to time.

The way fan fest OPs go usually is that someone starts a fest and abandons the OP, leaving it to become more and more behind the times.

But an OP so to speak, the front room of a fan club. It is a disservice to the fans to leave it shabby or outdated, particularly when there is an active, interesting community of fans posting, as there are for Max.

As to formatting, for items you have already formatted, and wish to suggest for the OP, just copy them over, and I will include them. I just thought originally that you were formatting items at the time you posted, suggesting that they be included when that formatting was not necessary. I did not wish you to do extra work that was not needed.

But I can't do it all. There are so many skaters. I do need all the help I can get.

Another Phillip Mills blog entry -- shedding a bit more light on working with Max:
... Besides the obvious that they are elite international competitors with stellar skating skills and amazing jumps and spins in their arsenal of tricks, there is another commonality between elite skaters such as Misha Ge, Max Aaron, and Tatsuki Machida. That common thread is their approach to learning and applying what they are learning.
... Max Aaron looks me square in the eye at the beginning and end of every lesson and says, “Thank you”, with sincerity. ... This type of respect for their teacher is always present.
... The words that best describe Misha, Max, and Tatsuki and their deep relationship with their coaches are that they are always
respectful, trusting and compliant. ...

@mirai_nagasu
Stay tuned for an announcement tomorrow from @USFigureSkating that involves @MaxTAaron and me! And yes, it involves us pairing up.

@USFigureSkating quoted Mirai's tweet and added #CollegiateChamps15.

We already knew that Max and Mirai both are entered in Collegiates. It's the "pairing up" that is intriguing ......

Thx, Stitch. :hopelessness: and  all at once .

I imagine it'll just be a fun exhibition thing...or maybe they're entering collegiates for fun as a pair. Except, well...it's a bit mismatched.

So, I take it that we are going to vote for Max as the "Most Likely to do the ESPN Body Issue." I think if Max did it it would (hopefully) be better than when Evan Lysacek was in there. I think they could have had Evan posed better. Can't find the picture right now.

I mean, it's not like Jason or Joshua would probably do it. I could see Jeremy or Ricky doing it, though.

The Collegiates comp in Pittsburgh this week is for the disciplines only of Men and Ladies.

The analogous USFS Collegiate comps for Pairs and Ice Dance are held as part of Skate Detroit and Lake Placid, respectively.

And no sign of an exhibition on the Pittsburgh schedule.

But we'll find out soon enough about the mysterious tweet :).

BTW, I know that your comment re Mirai is lighthearted, but I don't think that she would be any more of a mismatch than other "partners" ;) whom we have seen with Max??

The news is that Max and Mirai are taking over the USFS Instagram account this weekend.

Oops, forgot to say earlier that today's press release from USFS confirmed that Max, Mirai, Dornbush, Alex Johnson, and Angela Wang are competing at Collegiates.

Elite U.S. figure skaters to compete in Pittsburgh
August 6, 2015 12:00 AM
By Max Cohen /
http://www.post-gazette.com/sports/...to-compete-in-Pittsburgh/stories/201508060096

The article quotes someone from the host club on the rare opportunity to bring a big skating event with some very high-level competitors to Pittsburgh.

“It’s really cool, coming to a place that usually an event never goes,” Aaron said. “Hopefully I can inspire some people [to] maybe one day lace up the skates and start figure skating as well.”

This needs to happen .

People talk about the power in Max's engine all the time, but he's been hiding some impressive front end aerodynamics under those shirts...

Article published just before Collegiates began:

Top U.S. figure skaters ready for Pittsburgh event

Quotes from Max, such as:

“I am not the most talented skater,” he said. “But I work harder than most people.
“I am in a division that I need to break through.”
And that is what he hopes to do this weekend.
He wants to use this opportunity as a chance to refine his movements for when he returns for his junior year at University of Colorado, Colorado Springs.

However, after suffering a back injury at age 16, he had a decision to make: hockey or figure skating.
In 2010, he decided he would continue as a figure skater.
“I don't have any regrets,” he said. “Sometimes I think back and wonder where would I have been, but no regrets.”

Congratulations to Max for winning the SP at Collegiates.

Congratulations, Max! He competed it at WTT in mid-April, though.

Of course. But like everyone else, he did have an off-season after that (sort of!), and now is building again. So, he's looking pretty good for August.

Seems that Max filled in as Angela Wang's "coach" at Collegiates? (I take it that Damon and Christy did not travel with her??)

ETA:
Maybe none of the coaches travel to Collegiates?
Alex Johnson seemed to be Mirai's "coach," per her Instagram that was part of the takeover of the USFS account:

Thx to Stitch, karne, others for Collegiates news/video (ETA: and thoughts/analysis :)) in this thread and the comp thread :).

I have to confess I'm a little bummed out about that jump layout, if that's the permanent one. I understand they're asking more of him choreographically than ever before but...the jumps are Max's thing. Reducing down to one quad to get the choreography in is just inviting a "ner-ner we told you so he can't hack it" response from the USFS. I'm also really bummed about the components scores he got at Collegiates. No love whatsoever from the judges.

Sorry guys, it's just a bummy kind of Sunday and I'm back to the bummed-out feeling that it'll never matter what Max does, he'll never be good enough for the stuckups at the USFS...

Do you think that Zayaked 2T could be a planned 4T? It's incredibly late in the program which is risky, but has a lot of point/wow potential (plus a lot of Zayak potential, obviously). OTOH, a planned 3T there just seems silly and odd. It seems like it should be a 3F instead of anything else, but then why do a 2T there instead of a 2F?

(I'm no jump layout expert, especially this early in the season. Any speculations/insight?)

I would doubt it. Max and the 4T aren't really friends. If it had been a 3S, then I would be inclined to think that maybe he was going to try for a 4S late in the program. It could be that he just got muddled - on the "planned content" he was supposed to do a 2A there. I am sure that the 2As are placeholders. Maybe a second 3Lz?

It was only a Zayak on this occasion because he'd popped the 4S-3T into a 4S-2T, so he wound up with three 2Ts (because he also did 3A-2T). I would suggest that they are still programming his stamina in for loading in the jumps while keeping the choreo. Remember, this is effectively his Riverdance.

(Feeling more optimistic now that I have had food, sunshine and Max's bright smile!)
