on the contrary…. at 5, they shouldn't even think of that :) i'd expect them to say that he looks a bit drab in grey or something like that… anyways.. i don't even want to think what they would have said if they had seen him before he lost about 8 pounds… hahahaha he is almost as his thinnest in a long time anyways ;) i am worried for the image issues children have actually… it's deeper than it appears to be.
I find, in the case of children, it does not mean a negative thing. They just observe and say what comes to their mind first. Don't let a 5-year-old offend you. ;)

ps not offended… just a bit worried for the kiddos ;) due to stupid society image shallow BS issues

Well, you'll be happy to know that my nephew thinks that fat is a great thing. He has chubby adorable cheeks and is complimented on them regularly.

If only I could get him to sit still to watch it. Anyway, Patrick scored 84 points for this program...is this an official ISU competition? or a Local Comp?

Really like the program! I've always liked him with jazz and am glad to see him stepping away from classical for the SP. Right now, he looks beatable, but it's September. The jumps and even the spins aren't there yet, but I have a feeling they will be. Really looking forward to seeing him vs. Hanyu vs. Fernandez vs. Ten vs. all the other great men's skaters! So excited for the season to begin!

It's funny--while I respect Patrick, he's not one of my favorites. But I think he "wears this program well" and am eager to see him keep improving with it. My biggest hope for men's skating in general is that there's a better balance of the incredible technical content they're attempting with clean skates. Obviously a very tall order!

Patrick was not really "competing" in this local event. It was just the first try-out before the judges to test the new programs, getting the toes wet after taking a year off. The emphasis was not on the elements. The other Men had marks in the 50s.

Thanks for the info. This week, I feel the skating season has really gotten going. Next big thing is the Japan Open. Wooohoo!

i am looking forward to the JO as well... i am just sad it's jeremy abbott going... why not Nam or Brown? or Farris? sigh

Nam's going to Autumm Classic the week after, and he would only get a week's rest from two events before SC. And Josh is out with a concussion (withdrew from SC and NHK). Besides, Japanese fans LOVE Jeremy, AFAIK. But well, this is invitation only so you'll have to ask the organizers hehe.
Haven't watched Patrick's SP yet, but I will once a get wifi. The few clips I've seen before look stunning

oh... didn't know about josh... gosh.. i spend way too much time on this forum and i still miss vital info.. thanks for enlighten me....

It was pretty good. I'd like him to show a bit more personality, but it's September, so I'm sure that will come.

Oh gosh, I thought the program had loads of personality. Cool personality, that is. Whip those elements into shape, and it will be a crowd pleaser.

Chan is capable of showing more, imo. I think he knows the essence of how to perform it, but just needs a bit more soul, if that makes sens But I agree it will be great once those elements come into shape.

I really like the program, but I'm not a very big fan of the music. I watched it again with Javi's Black Betty music in the background and it was awesome.

I finally watched it and I liked it a lot! A little bit more polishing and it will be very nice. I think it would help if he let go just a tiny bit and enjoy the routine. But as the season progresses, I think it will only get better. :)

:laugh2: Black Betty makes everything better.

Very cool.

I kind of wish he had gone with Frank Sinatra, though (if not Bobby Darin :) ).

I agree! A really nice choreography. Unfortunately a fantastic piece of music is spoiled by the singer & adaption and it all became kind of uninspiring.

ermm i like this version... if there were only one singer allowed to sing one piece, life would be dull

Not everyone need a constipated look to look like they have soul. Truly mastery is about showing enough rather than showing too much.

Mack the knife is a morose song anyway, cold hearted killer, a murder ballad. Think of the TV shows like Dexter. That despite outward normal cool controlled appearances of the unassuming man, there's alot of internal brewing and boiling waiting to unleash. This one does it with an upbeat song over something darker with a killer instinct. It is with the efficiency, quickness and slight of blade skills, it belies the masterful killer.

You don't have to look constipated to show emotion. True emotion is not rehearsed and comes through in body movements as well as facial expressions. I do not see that in Chan's performance--at least yet. Maybe he'll find an emotional connection with the music and choreography as he becomes more comfortable with the routine.
