I don't think this is something that can be taught... otherwise US ladies would have won everything left and right after Kwan.

Oh. So atleast there's atleast some hope. Still I don't see anyone doing an Adeline ie, be in a close position and possibly be pushed unfairly to gold position.

Wow, rika's green dress is very similar to Akiko's green peacock dress. LOVE IT
It's great to feel Akiko's influence in styling and choreography...and it is still a Rika program.
I mean, Akiko didn't just recycle one of her own programs, but she really thought about how to present Rika in the best way possible. So much respect for this duo.
P.S. a heart-warming back-story that Akiko shared earlier this year, when she was trying to recover from anorexia and was away from her home, Rika's mother helped Akiko a lot by taking her on walks and talking to her and basically filling in and being a mom. So Rika and Akiko's family go way back.

...yes? Mao's obviously the better skater, but I like Rika's style more (posture notwithstanding). What can I say, the heart likes what it likes

Personally not a fan of Hongo's short. But then again, I was more in love with her Free than the short, last season too.

Her posture is slightly better, true. But she's been selling her programs better since about midway last season. People spent so much time complaining about her posture that they didn't realize she was actually engaged in her performance and giving energy and skating strongly at all of her events. I've been singing Rika's performance praises for a while now.
I'm just happy other people are starting to take notice. Her programs last year weren't bad but I do think this Cirque program is much more unique which helps her to stand out more. I think she has an excellent chance of winning here. Julia still looks a bit out of it. I like that she tried something new with her SP but the edits are choppy and the dress is distracting. She is going to have to do a much better job at selling the program to get that one to fly. Her FS is more to her speed but even that is a little generic and boring. If she can skate cleanly it won't matter, but the fact she's still having jump issues has me thinking Rika may come out on top here.

I found Julia's program so disappointing.:hopelessness: IN 2013/14 and in the SP last year, she had really sophisticated programs that she interpreted well, but this just looks like a program you would expect from a junior girl from a eastern European fed with no money for a decent choreographer. What was Marina thinking, and what were her team thinking with the dress and gloves?
Respect to Akiko. btw, Rika will never look like Akiko due to her posture. Akiko's posture is a dream.

Agree. What Yuna had can't be taught. Also, the Korean youngsters have an impossible task to live up to Yuna Kim. She is a skater for the ages.

If we give Rika time she can become great, because the crowd loves her, she has something. But that said, Akiko's musicality was pretty special.

I think the program has potential. It has the chance to really show her in a different light, rather than the somber programs she usually has. She can broaden her performance abilities by skating something different. The problem I had here was that she wasn't selling it. The dress is CRAZY. Can't decide yet if it's crazy-good or crazy-bad. Her hair was gorgeous though.

Akiko's dress was blue, but there are definitely similarities
. I agree with Newbiespectator...you can see the influence from Akiko's "O" program but it's not like she recycled her program and gave it to Rika. Akiko's program was lighter and calmer; this program has more drama and power. It fits Rika's style very well. I honestly think the JSF should hire Akiko as a performance coach for all of the younger Japanese skaters. She was so brilliant at capturing the feel of the music and projecting to the audience. If there is one thing some of the younger Japanese skaters lack, it's that ability to really pull the audience and judges in. Her work with Rika speaks for itself. Go back and watch a video of Rika in 2013 and compare it to worlds from last year...there's a marked difference in the way she presents herself and her programs.

I just saw the protocol, and realized that So youn lost more than 9 points because of her double lutz and Fssp level. If she cleaned, she would've got similar points as Lip's SP. I just have to admit to the judge's decision, I guess, and just be satisfied with the potential of Soyoun's program haha...
