Indeed. Many of her jumps should receive negative GOE, though her SP jumps were better than her usual jumps. Her TES is a joke.

Yep, all of Miyahara's jumps should have been called > and her TES should have been lucky to crack 60.

Is it because the tech panel aren't allowed to slo-mo the take off and only the landing? or so I've heard, correct me if I'm wrong. I mean, she rotates so fast, its really hard to tel without slo-mo and tech panel/judges are supposed to give the benefit of the doubt?

If that's the case, what's the point of having FIVE separate categories for PCS? Isn't the point to give skaters points on what they do best on the ice? Also, I'm not just talking about Medvedeva. I don't for the live of me get how Ashley got higher SS than someone like Satoko.

Well, advanced novices have 1 less so they get less max score... And still, there are differences between the categories even if they don't end up being massive. I think it's more interesting like this than if it was just a single big score with no components.

Ridiculous scores all across the board. I agree with the placement, but scores for all of the skaters should be much lower. What are these judges smoking right now? All of the skaters pretty much performed exactly same way or even worse than they did couple of "weeks" ago, but scores got increased like crazy all of sudden. It seems that they eagerly want to break the WR with much weaker performances. Why the heck they have to do that? Why do we even have COP in the first place if we cannot have some sort of standards on scores? It is pretty much 6.0 judging; :shocked:

It seems the more excited the crowd, the higher the scores, e.g. NHK. But at this event at least, the judges are equal opportunity inflationists.

It's usually fair within an event but using scores from all events for records can sometimes be inequitable.

Ashley was the most brightest star of the night to me. It is a pity she was not on the podium unlike the last year.

She should have! Argh why does she go for the 3-3 in the SP when she knows she won't fully rotate it?! A 3-2 and she would have medaled. Still amazing PB for her!

Sensational skate by Medvedeva!!!! Wow the judges are really giving clean or close to clean skates huge PCS. That almost beat Yu Na's record, and would have had she got no ! on her lutz and slightly higher PCS.

Crying over my ladies, Gracie was like anemic and do not have speed(poor firebird she burnt her self huhuhuhu) and Mao urghh. You ladies should visit a world class sports psychologist. The day will come. I am rooting for Gracie and Mao for there respective natl championships and also rooting for them for gold and silver at worlds. Train hard ladies!! I know you can beat those teenage gals

If you slow-mo any competition with Miyahara you can see she pre-rotates them all illegally, I'd assume guilty until proven innocent in this case.

Watched it live on the ISU stream with no commentary, kind of like it that way.

Super proud that Ashley had her PB in the FS - I think she was third? Too bad she missed the podium by 2 points or so. She must be kicking herself but also happy she did so well. Reminds me of last years GPF, except she wound up on the podium. And I think she also surpassed last year's GPF FS score by 10 points! Hope she can keep that momentum going into Nationals.

Gracie and Mao seemed to have very similar skates - both messed up their opening money jumps and then popped and had shaky landings on what followed. Not all was bad, but so disappointing when we know what they are capable of. I had picked Gracie and Mao as #2 and #3 so there you go.

Satoko's consistency is paying off - just like at Worlds when she snuck in for silver. I do agree the judges need to hold her for pre-rotation. Her program is gorgeous though and she skates so well overall.

Elena was a bit rough here but she fought as usual. Still don't like the voiceovers - "I'll never let go, Jack!" UGH

Evgenia's scores are crazy but she deserved to win. But does she really need all those tanos? It really ruins her skating for me. Would love to see her and Polina Tsurkaya in a jump off (well that will be at Nationals). I had predicted her to win but the rest of the order was messed up as usual.

Had to set my alarm at 03:30 to watch this as I'm in Tokyo^_^ I was hoping for everyone to skate clean especially Mao but I guess she was just nervous again. I thought she was particularly slow too. Not sure about being last though. But anyway, it's okay. At some point during her skate I actually thought that she was just so tired but at least she continued. I just want her to skate and have fun but somehow (maybe for some of the more senior skaters as well), it has become like a 'job' for her and she's not enjoying it as much as she used to. But anyway, it's okay. I am happy and thankful to see her come back in the competition. I think this season is like a 'test phase' for her after coming back from a break. I hope this season doesn't discourage her though~

Great that Satoko managed to squeezed in into the podium. I am also glad Ashley skated clean though. I think you can see that she was really surprise and happy after her skate.

There's a chance she wouldn't have. She had some hiccups in other elements as well. Clean she should have taken silver, though.

Mathematically she still would have gotten bronze (and missed silver by a point or two). One imagines her PCS would have been higher though but it's not a certainty she would have won silver.

PCS voting system is really messed up as is with the judges not being held accountable. Medvedeva's SP interpretation scores ranged from 7.25 to 9.5 IIRC and neither is accurate(7.25 especially). I'm really not sure why so many of these people are allowed to judge in the first place.

Points for a clean jump, plus extra GOE and PCS for the successful jump could be worth 8 points or more so I don't see a problem with that

I think her marks were fair especially with the marks Gracie and Mao got for far worse programs

If we take out the spiral sequence, probably. But I don't think her performance today merited several more PCS points than Yuna's 2010 OG FS...
