I think Chan will medal at worlds if he skates well both programs, but i don`t think he can beat Hanyu this year who`s on a whole different level, the thing with Chan is that he`s lazy and sometimes does not take his training seriously that`s why Christy left him he did not want to submit to her rigourous training methods.

And you know this how?

From what we've heard, Patrick kept practicing and working on his technical content all during the SOI tour last year. Given rehearsals for the show, the shows themselves and all the travel involved, I would say this is a man who isn't exactly "lazy!" You don't get to be as good as Patrick has been/is if you're lazy. Sorry but I think that statement is pretty absurd and pure speculation.:rolleye::rolleye:

Didn't Chan's coach say somewhere that she's still trying to convince him to do 2 run throughs per day?

Why does this thread still exist? Should be Yuzu x the rest (Fernandez, Uno and maybe Chan)

I still think Patrick has all the skills the be a front-runner again, but he can't be thinking 'Yuzu has maxed out his content' -or letting himself believe it either. Did he see the 4Lo landed right under his nose at the Gala? Yuzu is pretty serious about upping his content every year. He's raised his difficulty every year except last year when he was sick and injured.
Not to mention in all 3 clashes with Shoma Uno this year, Shoma has had the upper hand. It's not just Yuzu he's up against.
Yes, we can still say the Patrick has better components than Shoma but what is actually put out on the ice when it's competition time? Shoma 3 -Patrick 0

Patrick calls the shots in that relationship and everyone knows it. That's why he needs a real coach like Christi Krall who never let Patrick just do what he wanted. I think that's the real reason he went with Kathy Johnson as his coach he knew he could do what he wanted and not really answer to anyone. And in his arrogance he thought he didn't really need to improve since he was winning even with mediocre performances.

I watched very closely to see if Patrick was watching but he went off-ice with quite a few others after the finale so he really did miss it. Though I'm sure he had to have heard about it...

My definition of lazy is sitting in front of a computer screen criticizing people who do quads and triples on a daily basis.

You, lilohozi, and robredo40 are all implying that Patrick is a slacker. Here is a direct passage post Sochi with a quote by Jeremy Abbott:
Chan is friends with American Jeremy Abbott, they train together in Detroit. The four-time U.S. figure skating champion praised Chan on Saturday night, saying "He's one of the hardest workers I've ever seen in my life. It's kind of intimidating watching him train. . . he's a beast." Forgive me but I'll take Jeremy's word over yours any day.

One more thing. I was at the 2014 Canadian Nationals. Christy Krall was there as coach of Liam Firus. After all of Patrick's performances (and practice), Christy applauded loudly, something she didn't do for any other competitor. The mutual respect between the two of them was obvious. Again, since I've never heard either of them say anything regarding their split, I don't see why I should take your post seriously.

You can't get the GPF or even get into the GP if you are lazy. Chan isn't lazy. He needs to adjust his strategy for the future, maybe. But I'm sure he, and everyone who makes it to the top ranks, are working in ways that would make my eyes water in sympathy.

i don't think he needs to adjust his strategy.... many of you see the GPF as "final results" Chan clearly has a gradual path towards higher BV. Adding a bunch of jumps too quickly would be counterproductive for him and could lead to fatigue, stress or even injuries.... I see people talking about his 4S.... well maybe in a year or two!... The plan now, at least what his coach has mentioned in interviews is to have two quads, and she would like two 3A as well (before Chan had the quad, he was doing two 3A in his programs if I am not mistaken).

So, let's give him time. He just got back after a year off... Look what happened to Mao.... yes, she had some great skates this season, but her content is huge... and she couldn't handle it at GPF.... Chan got penalized heavily in the SP but he did skate a wonderful and clean FP... so that's extremely positive and PART OF the STRATEGY... I think we will see at Canadian Nationals if he adds back the second quad.... that's pretty much all I expect for this year.... anything else would be reworking the layout...

-I'm still not sure what Chan wants out of this? Does he know? He said it's not about winning any more. If so, he doesn't need to change anything or even upgrade his jumps layout. But then, why is he competing. He also says he doesn't like to compete...it's puzzling. His plan is to make it to the 2018 Olympics, he's pretty much guaranteed a spot there along with Nam. Is that all he wants?

I'd tell Patrick: look at Javi. He didn't say that Yuzu has maxed out his content. He doesn't say this kind of things in general. Maybe he didn't even think out it. Watching Yuzu pushing the limits of this sport motivated him to do the same. He went there and delivered the best performance of his life, landing 3 quads and breaking 200. Only 2 weeks later than Yuzu. That's how you do it. He didn't seem disappointed in the end because even with his huge score, he still was way behind Yuzu. Probably because he was interesed in doing his best and not in what means Yuzu's best.

I agree that maybe some people who really don't like Patrick are overreacting. Maybe what he said wasn't actually supposed to sound like underestimating the kid. The thing is, no matter what, this is not a constructive way of thinking for Patrick. I understand that it may be frustrating to get > 190p and still be 25p behind the leader. But I saw two lovely happy people on the podium who didn't seem to be frustrated at all.;)

where did you hear he doesn't like competing? I heard the opposite... he has said he likes the energy around the competitions. He likes the preparation. He loves skating that is why he is back... I mean, Katarina Witt came back and she had NO jumps... and wasn't even a contender... but she wanted to be at the Olympics... and I am sure her fans were thrilled to see her programs.

That's how I feel about Patrick, yet, he is getting better and better as the year goes and who knows what will happen in 2018.... life changes so fast... nobody can tell for sure how things will evolve. Some athletes, Chan knows very well about that, peaked before the games and let the pressure mess up with them.... it happens, sickness happens too.... other people may surface or resurface... some wunderkid may have all quads by then... Who KNOWS? I get edgy when I hear things like "he is done... " Keep in mind that he could also get a gold medal in a team event in 2018... maybe that's also something on his mind, because really, Yuzu cannot get that one... so there are lots of things in motion ;)

I got the impression from this article. --But perhaps he actually likes it but just isn't used to it anymore. But no one is saying he is done.

meh ;) that's completely different from a previous interview he did at the beginning of the season.... :) and regarding people saying he is done... there are many here on this forum who say that he is... and some even say that all men should retire since yuzu is unbeatable ;) haha
