what? where?
Calica, here's Patrick's FS in HD, if that helps: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WnnWDUmX2Uo
Misha Ge is the latest disclosed victim of quad training, in pain and withdrawn from 4CC. Patrick is well aware of the risks of quad training, especially for someone not having a slim body with very narrow hips. He has sounded the warning, getting accused of wishing injuries for his rivals, and is taking a careful approach himself. I'm glad he is staying with the cautious long term plan mapped out with his coach without succumbing to the pressure to rush more quads into his programs. Stay smart and careful, Patrick.
Stay healthy and happy, Patrick.
Haha,,, I was always a fan of Patrick's skating. The interview after the SP and his performance in the LP at the GPF just made me a super fan and gave me an urge to post at the Fan Fests. When I was asked, I couldn't find a word to describe what I felt ; the changes in his interpretation from the SC to the GPF. Then, I was being silly saying as if I had received a love letter from Patrick.

When I read someone's rage against Patrick, I feel sorry for what they are doing to themselves, but nobody can change or be responsible for another's foolhardiness in causing themselves harm. By the same token, I feel it's best for Patrick to just mind his own body, training, and competition. Truth and wisdom are not welcomed or appreciated but are to be trashed and bashed.
Stay healthy and happy, Patrick.
well here we go... another proof that quad training is killing "artistic skating" Misha is one of the most creative and entertaining skater out there.... and bang...the issue in this forum is that some uber fans are looking for everything possible to undermine Chan's credibility
His hips perpetually ache now. His back and shoulders are sore most of the time, too. And in the past few months, he's given up on the once-a-week jumping he'd managed to work into his hectic schedule.
The "Quad King" has been grounded since 2006, and although Timothy Goebel still feels the effects of years of quadruple jumps...
"You have to be so on [with a quad]," he said. "Timing, height, speed going in—everything has to be in such a narrow parameter." With triple jumps, he could make adjustments midair if something were off. But if anything went awry on his quad, he knew he was going down. The margin of error on that jump is razor-thin to nonexistent.
Skaters who were known for quads often end up having to undergo back and hip surgeries at relatively young ages. 2002 Olympic gold medalist Alexei Yagudin had a titanium hip joint implanted in 2007. That Plushenko returned to competition after undergoing several spinal and hip surgeries since the last Olympics is nothing short of miraculous. (He's only 31.) That he had to bow out on Thursday after aggravating a back injury is anything but a surprise.
I am quite certain Patrick was parroting Kathy's lecturing him when he commented on the possibilities of injuries by his rivals. At least he didn't mimic her manner because she was likely yelling at him.
I'm glad you agree. Just my quibble, but perhaps if Patrick had prefaced that statement about injuries by his rivals with something like "I'm very concerned about the increased chances of injuries when we add more quads to our programs..." it might be received better and be less prone to misinterpretation.
But I'm guessing that he has a million thoughts going through his head right now, and not enough time to explain them in an interview.
Perhaps we can take a lesson from the "quad king" Timothy Goebel, who left figure skating this way (2009 article: Timothy Goebel has moved on from skating, albeit in pain):
He also said in this article:
So in the future we'll see many more retired skaters in their 20s walking on crutches...
I've re-read both the diManno and cbc articles. Imo, it's a tempest in a teapot. But then again, I'm just an ill-informed, overzealous Patrick Chan uber.
I've never heard that phrase before. I'm going to guess at the meaning - is that to suggest that a fire would have absolutely no impact in a desert.a forest fire in the desert my dad used to say
He might be responding to some taunting questions. :confused2:

people don't remember what happened to goebel or even plushy...it's all about the young current quad masters

BUT
how can you have a forest in a desert?
4everchan, are you messing with me????
Help - my brain is going into hyperdrive! :hpull:
