Patrick Chan

Awesome, blueberryhill! No offense intended, I just didn't know if you had seen that article, that's all. And I hope Nathan Chen comes out all right.

I'm still trying to figure out how I can go see Patrick at SOI, so good for you!
You know it was so confusing because there were three articles and I couldn't find the Toronto Sun version to re-read before I posted! But I knew I had read "injuries" and "plateaus". I thought maybe one of the other articles had been "re-edited".

As for Nathan Chen, given all his past injuries (and from what I read, not fully recovered) ... it really was risky do four quads and then attempt one in the exhibition (when the injury occurred). There was supposed to have been an update yesterday ...

I think you should just decide to do what it takes to go see Patrick skate and then GO. Grab the opportunities while you can. Treat yourself!
With SOI I actually have to make an effort to go. I'm slightly agoraphobic (lol) :shame: so you know it has to be a special reason before I voluntarily leave the house (Mr. PChiddy!!!). I've been fortunate in being able to speak to Patrick the last two years before the start of the show. This year, I don't know ... My pre-show ticket benefactors - "friends of a friend" are retired this year and they will probably be in town and use their tickets. Vivley, any suggestions of what to ask Patrick if indeed I am lucky enough to go? ;)

Thanks, blueberryhill. Since Patrick is only skating in the SOI shows in Canada this year, I would have to travel northward 2,000+ miles to see him. I do have relatives who live in NY, less than 3 hours from Hamilton, ON, so maybe I could synchronize a visit to see them and Patrick. Sigh... he's skating in all these great places this year that would give me a reason to visit - Taipei, Boston and Ontario. Just need time and money to do it.

If you get a chance to speak with Patrick, would you/could you kindly ask him where I can send him a card to encourage him? This was the question that I asked PJ to ask him, but it never got answered for understandable reasons. Much obliged.

ask him if he comes to goldenskate and knows us :) hahahahahaahhaha

And if he secretly reads everything we write here, LOL. ;)

:) well one sure thing : there is lots of belief and love here :) go patrick !:cheer:

time to say goodbye to the wedding cake photo :)

So sad to know of Nathan having a hip surgery at 16. Hopefully this is also a wake up call for adults around him, especially his "real coach".

As quad training skaters of various ages drop like flies, I have all the more appreciation for the "choreographer" who trains our healthy quad jumping champion. I'm grateful Patrick is guided in easing instead of rushing back into contending for the top spot, all the while under incessant pressure.

Poor Nathan - I wish him a successful operation and a speedy recovery.

Maybe those quad training skaters should delay doing those big jumps until they are older, like Patrick did. I think that is one reason why he's been able to skate and win consistently year after year without injury. As well, besides being blessed with great genes, all of his off-ice work (e.g., soccer exercises, dance, yoga, etc.) also help tremendously. He also seems to know a lot about how his body works, courtesy of Kathy. The fact that he spends a lot of time practicing alone on the ice makes this all the more impressive. I wish him a long and healthy career in figure skating.

It took us a minute to figure out what he was saying, because I don't really think he has much belly fat! LOL I think it must have tickled, because every time they tried to do the spin Patrick would fall out of it laughing hysterically and going on about his belly fat.

Luckiest1, I found the video of Patrick and Dylan spinning together, just like you described! Hilarious! :laugh2:
