2016 Europeans Ladies Free Skate

Wagner has "lasted" because she's in a super weak American field. She would've been long buried and retired by now if she were skating for Russia.

If Seniors who've "lasted" and been "battle-tested" for years cannot beat skaters fresh off junior ranks, then maybe the Senior skaters should try improving themselves.

You are the one who brought Ashley Wagner into this. I am not even a fan her's. IMO there is no point talking about where Ashley would be if she skated for Russia, because her training and everything likely would have been different. So I will leave that discussion alone.

Whether you agree or not I think it will be really sad for Evgenia to have this season that she is having only to be pretty much gone next year, regardless of what she has won.

If you've been around the sport a long time you recognize beautiful body lines, athletic jumps and interpretive depth. This takes years of work and seasoned fans know it. I don't know what has happened to the judging that accomplished skaterrs are being pushed aside by the latest twirling 15 yo. If the judging system can't capture this difference then it's hurting not helping the sport. I would watch Josi Heggleson or Ashley Wagner any day over Rad or that new Russian junior the British boys ae pushing - what's her name? I hope the career skaters will stay in it. Sensibility will come back!
I would watch Evgenia over Wagner or Radio of Joshi because Evgenia has more beautiful body lines, more consistent athletic jumps, and more balletic elegant interpretation. Glad the judges agree with me.

Yulia has more mental problems than physical: she loose confidence whenever a jump is missed.

I disagree. Her mental problems came because of her technical shortcomings that, when she grew up completly prevented her to jump. She only jumped with her arms. I remember at one of her meltdown FS she was jumping with arms in front of her! Her double axel tech was also atrocious.

For Evgenia no question she is a tough tough gritty girl but that 2A problem is not gonna go away when she grows up and fills up a bit. That flutz neither and at one point it will begin to get called.

LOL.

Ashley Wagner in Russia would be exactly an Alena Leonova and not so much more. She never won GPF, and never been on the podium at Worlds. Also first years at seniors were so bad for her, and after ten years she hasn't got so many medals.

Almost all these "new" russian ladies are already better than these skaters.

If Evgenia keeps her technique through the whole process of body changing, she will stay on top for many years.

They're russian girls, not ladies. They're good because they weigh 40 kg and it's easy. Coimpletely different game. I think Wagner is far more relevant to the devlopment of the sport than that perrinealy akward Rad. Let's see what kind of skater she is and what's she's added to the sport in 5 years.

Glad every other country's girls are proving us exactly how easy it is and because Medvedeva weighs 40kg I guess they all must do so. Having a thin body type that is very much about genetics also is held against someone in an athletic competition, interesting. Perhaps you like thick girls, perhaps someone else likes thin girls. Why is your opinion correct, anyway?

And Lipinski's irrelevant to the sport as well, then? That's a pretty strong opinion to have.

Why you bring up Wagner I don't get when Mao, Yuna and Kostner would all be much more valid for your point.

hmmm. Radionova is 17 yrs old. lets see a world medalist, two-time european silver and two time gpf medalist, Wagner has ?
no doubt she'll get more in the future :agree:

Better to snatch those medals up first and then fade rather than last a long time without any hardware.

This thread is quickly starting to mirror Ashley's bitter comments about getting beaten by sonograms :hslap:

The older girls should be winning and beating the younger girls. If they can't that's their fault, don't take it out on the younger girls.

Not body type. Stage of development. If she's petite 20 yo - Myahara - and is the best then fine. If she is 16 with high muscle to fat ratio and low bone densiy becasue of a transitory stage of development then her Federation is just exploiting this to win medels. Nothing to do with the devlopment of the sport.

^Imagine Radianova skating to Evegnia's music and that'll show you why Evegnia interpreted her program very well.

Lena can easily skate to that music. It's not like presentation is her weakness lol. She just needs better choreography, and ffs please no more voiceovers.

I guess Miyahara's now 20 years old. Here I was thinking both her and Radionova were 17.

But anyway, if Medvedeva's body would be the exact same now and 3 years from now, why would that make a difference? Not that I disagree that her body type isn't attractive, just like Lipnitskaya's wasn't in 2013-2014, but i don't think that that should be a factor. It's not a modeling competition, once again.

I do not get why people are so bitter towards Medvedeva. She is amazing! When I look at her skating this FS, I get mesmarized... I do not even care that she fell(better now than Worlds). I see the lines, the story, amazing spins, jumps which are beautifully put into choreography. It is a piece of art.
I love Radionova, but her posture+that Titanic program prevent me from having her as my favourite skater. I do believe she should dump Morozov and go back to Averbukh next season. His programs suit him a lot better.
Anna, my Anna, why do you fall? You are so beautiful.

Do not get me wrong, I am sure Lena could perform to that...but...I do not think Evgenia's FS is suited for Lena, at leaat it would not be the same as Elena would have worse lines, probably some unnecessary hand movements etc.

After watching this nice competition live there are two things I would like to point out. From my point of view:

-Medvedeva deserved to win and deserved her score: she was clearly head and shoulders above Radio, who looked clumsy in all her elements. On the contrary, Evgenia just had the complete package: everything flowed perfectly in an effort that was truly artistic (until the axle of course :p)

-Kuchvalska deserved the bronze. She was the only skater to whom I gave a standing ovation, because she really gave all she had in that performance, from the moment she began to the final pose everything went in an ideal way; that could be used as a textbook example of what "projection" means! Pogo was potentially better, but those two falls were truly disastrous, they really destroyed the program and there was no way she deserved 3rd place for me :palmf:

Apart from the medals, those that won my heart were Fleur Maxwell (such elegance! Such fluidity! I would have given her all 9s :luv17:) and Matilda Algotsson. On the whole, there were many many enjoyable programs and skaters, especially from the artistic point of view: despite the lack of great jumps among the lower-ranked, a fantastic experience for those like me who love good traditional skating!
