2016 World Championships Ladies SP

I think that draw is not great for Medvedeva. It is great from a less pressure viewpoint, but even if she goes clean there is enough time for the judges to forget her and go with the home town favourites if they perform half decently. Crowd appeal does go a long way.

That being said, the last trio could be great or...not... considering their histories. Will be interesting.

So skating order for final six just came out (for Free Skate):

19 Elena Radionova
20 Evgenia Medvedeva
21 Satoko Miyahara
22 Anna Pogorilaya
23 Gracie Gold
24 Ashley Wagner

So the three historical headcases go last...will need lots of wine for this one

Oh my that's a very dramatic draw, like we have not had enough of it already!!!!!
Anna and Gracie have the best draw. Ashley will be under a lot of pressure.

Oh I am sure the placement will change dramatically tomorrow. But the PCS tonight were a big indicator of what to come. Evgenia is NOT going to have it easy (and she is the only one consistent enough to challenge the US ladies) no matter how much the haters claim she is overscored.

I am also pretty sure tomorrow is going to be a splatfest so Gracie is done well to secure 3.5 points lead just in case.

Please, no talk of a splatfest. I have been freelancing and job hunting from home all day, hit the live feed just in time to see Gracie react to her scores and place first. Hope ... :yahoo:

Since I'm complaining about Gracie I still get to harp on everyone else right :P

Tbh people aren't as harsh tday bc Gracie has been competing longer and "built up" to this moment. The Russian babies tend to get their crazy scores prematurely and that can be more shocking/grating.
Is Anna a baby? And Elena is grown up too.

They were not underscored:
- Satoko has very little jumps. It wouldn't be right to put her above Elena, Ashley, Anna, Evgenia and Gracie.
- Rika was on fire tonight: she seemed pleased with her score. Her spins were the iffiest of the last group and her BV was the lowest :P
- Mao was a mess: 3A<, messy solo 3L, StSq3.... She should be happy at her score...

Mao's steps were a level 4, all her leveled elements were. She also got 7th highest PCS, how is that overscored?

Personally I would have it:
1. Anna, 74
2. Wagner, 73+
3. Medvedeva, 73+
4. Gold, 73+
5. Radio, 70
6. Satoko, 69

Now THAT was ladies competition in World Championships!
Fabulantastic skating. :bow::love:

PS. I tell you, Anna Pogorilaya may become World champion. Something clicked inside this woman, have you seen her face? Her eyes screamed confidence and hunger! "Look at me, I'm real deal and I want it!"

It is a good name day for you :D

-------

My dream finish from this flight

1. Gracie
2. Anna
3. Elena
4. Evegenia,
5. Rika
6. Satoko

Yeah the dream will die a horrible death, I give it a 78% probability

a very close prediction :)

The LP will bring us back into reality soon enough ( I think that Medvedeva will win) so let's just enjoy tonight and the best Short Program competition ever.

Anyone seen Pogo's PCS up close?

Two judges (No. 1 and 5) gave all components 9 and above.

Two judges (No. 2 and 9) gave all components less 7.75 and below.

Great event, so many wonderful performances. Am over the moon for Ashley and Anna, especially.

Well done to Gracie for exorcising the SP demons, but I so can't deal with the lack of musicality and those PCS scores. It's like she can't hear or feel the music. You can tell the programs are well constructed, you can see where the steps and emphases should be, but they're always just slightly - and maddeningly! - off and there's no connection between the choreography and any sort of intentionality or expressivity. Sigh.

In the short i think the choreo is so well designed that i don't mind it, while in the LP she is always overscored on the PCS: the choreo is so bad there (at some points she does some creepy movements), she doesn't have musicality, and the firebird becomes just a background for showing weird movements and great skating skills.

Welp I just realize that Satoko and Rika are in 6th and 7th place. That's perilously close for Japan to maintain their 3 spots.

what?

Actually Russian babies won so many medals before crazy scores. Gracie Gold before this wasn't even able to grab a medal at 4CC where Polina won last year. LOL

So please do not start this, because you are wrong.

Start what again? I'm not starting a conspiracy theory against Russians--the point is that ALL the top skaters have a chance of being overscored when they deliver strong performances at a prime moment. The judges want to generate excitement and hype, and there are a lot of ways they can do that. For the past few years, the hype happened to follow the talented Russian girls coming straight out of the junior ranks. It makes sense why they got big scores pretty quickly after winning a medal. As it makes sense that today, Gracie got the judges' generosity to please the home crowd and get them excited for the FS. But the latter is easier to digest than the former, which is maybe why less people are complaining.

I guess no one predicted this outcome xD

I think it was a very well skated, enjoyable event and scores have been rising all the time, so it doesnt surprise me.

But I am really sad Mao only got 32 PCS and I dont understand it. All the other top contenders except Rika got higher PCS and I dont think that's right. Not by such a great margin. Yes, they were clean and she wasn't etc, but I never got that logic. Falls are punished enough in TES and in PCS it should only make a difference in the Performance/Execution category. What do her SS or Choreography have to do with her fall? Why should they suffer? I guess I'll never get it.

Life is hard being a fan of a subjective sport ;)

Congrats to Gracie, she was brilliant.

So amazing for Pogo to beat the star of her country! That's for sure a great memory to cherish, when so many people were saying she should be replaced for worlds. That said, she's totally not my cup of tea, her face when performing seems like a stone to me and I agree with her PCS being 3 points higher than Mao the least.

But the top ones are still somewhat close. It will be very exciting on Saturday :D
