She is second. Should have been first though. People think about Pogo as a "third number" of Russian ladies, but in actuality she is third either when she bombs or when her scores are purposely are lower than of her compatriots because of her instability. In Russian Nats, for ex, she should have been second overall, ahead of Radionova, not third.
Also people forget that she was 4th in 2014 Worlds, when objectively she should have been on the podium (she was the only one with a clean LP there, and SP). And she won more GP events than for ex. Gracie. It is just when she falls it looks really scary...

Oh definitely, I would have placed her ahead of Gracie technically AND artistically. Grace scored 76? Then Anna should have scored an 80 or something. Her steq sequence alone was brilliant, way better than Gracie's. I agree with you regarding her placement among her Russian peers. You are right, it's just scary when she falls. But what a beautiful face she has too!

Yes, both Anna and Kovtun, can't feel good when the crowd is filing out the door when you have barely finished your program.
Especially Anna, where was her Standing Ovation? Where was the cheering for her amazing program?
If it was in Japan at least the people would have stayed to see her scores before leaving.

For those of you who are complaining that the American audiences were not friendly to the Russian ladies ... Anna Pogorilaya disagrees with you. In the press conference directly after the Short Program, Anna said that the crowd was very supportive, and (now I'm paraphrasing) she appreciated it. I only understand 3 Russian words -- da, nyet and spassebo -- but I could understand her meaning even before the translator supplied it. She showed herself to be quite moved.

In contrast, it is burned into my memory that in Sochi 2014, during the Ladies' skates at least, the crowd was chanting "Rus-si-a" over and over even while the American ladies were skating out to take their position at center ice to skate their programs. Not exactly what you would call even a mildly polite reception.

I was charmed by Anna and Evgenia during the press conference. And I was wowed by Anna's skate. First time I really "got" her. :luv17:

I was at the event live and anyone that claims that any of the ladies were not well received is full of. That was a great event to witness and the audience was great. Did the US skater get the loudest cheers? Of course they did. It was at home for them, but each of those skaters, including the Russian girls received great cheers. The audience was willing everyone to hit those elements. I expect the same during the free. Many, many people literally had flags for each country represented and when the skater from the country performed they waived that country's flag and pulled out a new flag for the next skater's country. It was nice to witness. BTW it was a huge,y international audience many many Canadians and wow do the Japanese fans travel. Now I will give people the Kovtin thing. I felt horrible for him during the men's short because people did just start walking out before even his scores were announced.

Ok, thanks for the information. From my TV it sounded like only a small cheer for Anna but I'm glad the audience responded well to her.

Well...Anna crushed Mirai and who got the Standing ovation. Can you imagine if worlds was held in Russia and people showed up in the front row wearing Russian flags as cloths and not cheering on perfectly done elements by Americans. :think: I'm American BTW

Not a bad crowd IMO but it's not like they are the Japanese in 2014. TBH....I keep thinking everyone in the front row is ChuckM

I am sure that Russian audience would be bad too if not worse. The stupid patriotism of the big countries... becomes senseless and ignorant when gets over the edge.
Anyway, I am going to be there Sat. and will cheer for anyone skating well

Anna was breath taking! What a wonderful skating. She is very tall and looks amazing. But her skating was flawless! She is my winner for this program.

Anna is 5'5", which is the same height as Gracie. Is that considered tall?

she is 16? She looks 10, omg Great performance, but like Satoko, tiny jumps. Is she as tiny as Satoko? Maybe like Satoko, her tiny jumps are what's holding her scores back, unfortunately.

Do you honestly expect, that she would say the crowd was crap? No offence, but what are you thinking?... She is a professional skater and not the Terminator!

What I was referring to in regards of the crowd is simple.

Elena put her soul and heart on the ice, a good crowd would have picked it up and helped her through her skate, same with Evgenia who was very tight today. But no reaction came, this was not nice. If I sit in the stands and see a skater struggle then I clap or cheer for him or her, so that they don't feel alone. The same thing happened with the Shibs at ice dance, the crowd saw they needed help and supported them, this is how a crowd has to react, but the Americans only remembered this for their own kind.

Elena and Evgenia skated very lonely today and this I criticize, if you like it or not. :dev2:

Your Sochi experience I can not share, I was at the venue and did not experience shouts for Russia while Americans were skating, or anyone for that matter. To chant Russia after a own skater competed is not unusual and very common in the US as well. USA, USA is probably the most used phrase in the history of sports.

But I do not want to fight about such nonsense, can´t agree with everyone in this world. I did expect more of the crowd, much more.

I was only watching online but I could tell the crowed was very appreciative of anyone who performed well. Zijun was the first to come out and really knock it out of the park and you could really notice the crowd reacting, because they could tell this was by far the best they'd seen so far. I can't agree with people starting to leave after the last performing American, but I wasn't there so I can't say anything about it.

for giving this eyewitness report! I felt Anna's reaction keenly, even through the computer screen. Her beautiful eyes seemed to be tearing up a little, but I'm not 100% sure about that. I do know that I saw her say "spassebo" several times to the crowd while she was taking her bows. (Sorry if I misspelled; and I don't know the Cyrillic alphabet either!)

I hadn't realized that people started leaving the stadium before Maxim's scores were announced. I sorta wish I could apologize to him for that. I never understand how people can be so rude. It's like leaving the auditorium during a musical number at, say, a high school concert. If it's an emergency, that's one thing ... but basic performance etiquette is important.

Her jumps are not tiny at all for her height. Satoko pre-rotates a lot, Elizabet - does not. She is by far the most petite skater out there, much smaller than Satoko. Skaters are all different, and I find Elizabet's petiteness supercute and charming (which also gives her an advantage of rotating and spinning incredibly fast).

Do it!!! That's the kind of thing this sport needs. One thing the drives me bonkers is fans who see flags first. It's just so yucky!!!!
