2016 World Championships Pairs Free Skate

Congrats on D/R for a repeat performance, even when many were counting them out!

Thrilled for S/M! Best pairs girl ever!

Relieved for S/H to duplicate silver in such a packed field. Hope Sui gets her foot fixed in the off-season and soars to new heights next season (and also get those 3 spots back).

Better luck for V/T, but hopefully they'll be in full swing next season. The same goes for S/K.

Overall, I feel like this worlds (all disciplines) had some pretty significant inflation. If this trend continues, I predict the WR for pairs LP will be broken next season.

And ALL Russian off podium!! This is so far a horrible, horrible Worlds for Russia. They may only medal in women's and even there, gold is not assured... no pun intended. At least they will medal. But...men, pairs and ice-dance... nothing!!! Shocking!

Nothing is shocking when the WC is hosted in USA.

I wouldn't be surprised to see all the russian ladies off podium tonight.

Well... in the end, team China lost their spot by 0,5 a point (which is the score difference between P/Z and D-M/G)

All in all, it was an interesting and dramatic, if somewhat disappointing, event. Some underperformed, others did well, but one thing this event has made clear for me is that, just like in ice dance (apart from P/C), everyone is really so incredibly close that you can never really tell who will win/podium. And that is a wonderful thing for the sport  Makes me incredibly excited for next season :yay:

Oh no, don't be sad Watermelondrea! :)

I had yet to realize that your team is also struggling with getting on the podium. American figure skaters in men's and pairs are also struggling so I can empathize. Plus, the Russians were so close to medalling in all disciplines and will likely medal at ladies tonight. Not to worry - your team is still so amazingly strong! Trust me, if we had the depth of talent you guys currently have, I would not be sad at all. I would just say see you at the next Worlds! If I am not mistaken, you get three spots for men's, three for ladies' (tbd but really, we all know you will :)!), three spots for pairs and two for ice dance. That freaking rocks.

And this is coming from someone who still hates the 2014 Olympics because of Adelina 'winning' over the likes of Kim Yuna, Carolina Kostner, Yulia etc etc etc

Russia has 3 spots for Mens?

TAT and Gordeeva hate everything about D/R BUT do recognize technical prowess and call the win unquestionable. Gordeeva says that she is puzzled why St/Kl did not beat S/M. Called them the only ones robbed here.

I'm not a fan of DR either and I'm Canadian lol I just feel they are too laboured but they do have the tricks and had them when they needed it. I also don't like D's reactions at KC areas esp when they do well. Humble pie anyone?

Technically, 1.35 points. Still small, though.

Congrats to D/R. Not my favourite team at all, but they performed their elements when they needed to and have won again. Those 3Lutzes gain them marks everytime.

My favourite Canadian team, however, were Lubov and Dylan. If she had done her 3S, they could have been much higher. What a lovely performance from start to finish.

Sui/Han did really well, gorgeous program, but in the end their luck ran out. Amazing to get silver, though, considering what she's going through. Hope she recovers well if she has that surgery they talked about, and they can continue to improve.

I don't understand the Savchenko/Massot love, at all. That was so uninteresting to me. Any music could have played... but still, pretty darn good for a first time outing for him.

V/T. I love this team, but too many errors and not as sharp as they should have been. Seems Max has to start training harder if he reallly wants to get back to the top. They just were noticeably slower... again, it's hard to come back from injury and time off from competition and I think we have seen that from pairs and the singles so far.

If they make as many mistakes as St/Kl and V/T did, I totally agree.

But I expect Evgenia and Elena to skate fairly clean. I'd love Anna to medal, but she's more of a question mark consistency-wise.

Not really, they deserved the win. Fair and Square. I congratulate them.

Look I agree the coaches should have stayed out of the skaters' lounge. But you know, D/R had such a crap year, the emotion overwhelmed their judgment.

I actually love Megan's errr feisty opinionating. I hope TSL has them back on for a follow-up interview.

WOOW

I don't like Duhamel and Radford's skating at all, and I think they should have been marked lower, but they really skated their hearts out and wholeheartedly deserved the victory! Back to back world champions, that puts them in a very elite group, so kudos to them. It's clear they have been working hard on ALL of their elements and it is good to see that pay off. They are fighters, that I can say.

I feel so heartbroken for Sui and Han, and I do think they are the best skaters here, but they did not skate like winners tonight. Not a bad program at all though, and they did get the highest PCS, so not all is lost. Hope she can recover over the summer with her injuries and come out stronger for 2018.

Savchenko and Massot skated well too, but they need to work on their throws over the offseason. In the long run, I think they can be a force too but they have some basic technique issues that need to be addressed. Aliona is still the goddess though, she is so graceful and elegant. Bruno was so happy!

I know S/K (Rus) were struggling with injuries and they had a decent skate, but they had a more glaring error (fall) than S/M. Karma for V/T? Their program was a mess, and PCS should have been even lower. Tarasova/M should work on their programs for next year, not bad at all though! Lubov and Dylan were nice to watch. Peng and Zhang... the chinese federation won't be happy, Yu/Jin would have placed better than 10th with complete certainty.
