2016 World Championships Ladies Free Skate

Words cannot adequately describe my happiness see Ashley medal at at worlds (a silver even!). Finally. A magnificent culmination of her dogged perseverance under the perception that she was an almost girl. I love to witness moments like this.

I am happy that Mao was happy after her skate. Had she been in the first group the results could have been different. A bit sad that no medals for Japan this time but hopefully they will bring it next year~ At least the venue next year is In Finland so I think it's more "neutral" (I could be wrong).

I'm glad Ashley got the medal though instead of Gracie. Gracie really needs to be a bit more relax and show emotion when skating.

I hope Gracie is determined to come back next year after she saw Ashley got the silver. She has all the goods to be a champion but she psyche herself too much. I saw the doubt on her eyes before she skated her FS. Really feel sorry for her:sad21:.

Nah, Wagner was smoother and connected with her theme better. Besides in the mind of the judges what was smoother than Kostner's version of Shez? The placements are fair. Pogo can improve and climb up the standings. Tonight was Ashley's night.

Yeah, it's generally a bad move to perform to music that people associate with Michelle Kwan and Carolina Kostner. That's the literal definition of not doing yourself any favors.

yes that is very rude

I have to be honest to admit that I don't like Russian skaters because of their apparent rudeness (with the exception of Elena). This reminds me of that time when Adelina left the post-olympic press conference when Yuna was speaking.

My god am i so glad this competition's over, the funniest part to me was when i saw Gracie scoring higher than Mao :laugh2:
Thank god for youtube videos so you don't have to watch the whole god awful looking program.

Really gutted for Satoko's PCS, I'm amazed at how low it was, with her jumps her TES should have been switched with her PCS, she's lovely, 66 is way too low

What were you guys watching? Evgenia totally crushed it. Ashley and the rest didn't have a chance.

Mao

Everyone was great. Mirai! Satoko! Zijun Li! Rika! Daleman!

LOL GRACIE GETTING HIGHER PCS THAN ANNA AND MAO OK BYE

I think Ashley totally deserved 1st place in PCS. She sold that program and her really upped her game on transitions.

I kind of have to agree that Anna should be the silver medalist. If Evgenia got over 72 in PCS then Anna should've been over 70 as well. They were really saving that PCS for Gracie and Ashley but Gracie didn't deliver.

I wish they would have just left PCS as a 6.0 "rank the skaters" type of score and then have TES as a numerical measure of the elements. Oh well....this way is fun too because no matter what happens the judges always get something wrong.

I'd have rather seen Anna get silver but Ashley delivered. I'm honestly quite meh about that fight because both were pretty equal IMO. The podium has the right folks on it. All three deserve gold but Zhenya really seperated herself from everyone.

I honestly thought when Gracie got stanky feet out there that Satoko would sneak in. Ashley says no way....not on my watch and Gracie honestly should not be ahead of Satoko IMO. Oh well.

That's kinda bogus. It would be like judges giving out current marks based on Oksana Bauil's Swan Lake.

Why didn't you talk about how in the world Evgenia leap frogged Mao Asada in terms of PCS? At least even if Gracie had a higher PCS, it wasn't too far from Mao's. And don't forget about homefield PCS inflation. Gracie should be right where she was considering she might be inflated in PCS in her own homefield. So Gracie's PCS is actually fair.

Please, Gracie got that PCS because she flawed her free. Everyone here knows that if she had gone clean, she would've broken the WR. From Evgenia. Who had set it 10 minutes before that! Why do you think there were people who kept saying "lets wait till Gracie."? It's because SHE got the most inflation. When Satoko and Gracie should've had there PCS switched, it instead went the other way around.

Maaan, I will never get my wishes granted :( always the wrong favorites, who crumble under pressure

Congrats to all medalists :) , although I like neither of the three particulary much.

Sensitive much? Just because I didn't mention it doesn't mean I agree with it.

Mao should've gotten higher yes but Gracie's skate was definitely the weakest out of all them. She looked tentative and nervous and that was an awkward fall. Also she doubled a lutz. With a nervous skate like that, Gracie should've have been anywhere close to the PCS of Anna and Mao. Mao and Evgenia were separated by 3 points; I don't even think Gracie should be within 3 points of Mao.

I continue to be miffed by how bigger jumps aren't rewarded in ladies figure skating. This was certainly true before the COP (Tara Lipinski, anyone?), and it is glaringly true with the itemizing under the COP, where you have tiny but rotated jumps from the likes of Evgenia get HIGHER +GOE than much bigger ones from Anna. It's a problem because higher jumps aren't just better looking and more crowd-pleasing, they're also much more difficult to do, require more energy, and are riskier. Evgenia won fair and square under a system that existed long before she was born, but in my ideal world, there's a good case to be made that Anna deserved gold.
