2016 World Championships Ladies Free Skate

Wasn't that "fix" so predictable? I do admire your crystal ball. Gracie gold the gold medal over Zhenya just as you expected. :rolleye:

SERIOUSLY? Gracie wasn't clean so who knows what would have happened. Her LP was clean at Nationals and I was terrified it would happen again. Thankfully God saw fit to get out of tub to insure everything wound up OK tonight.

Meh. Her PCS is what got her, her score and I more or less agree relative to Evgenia in terms of PCS. Funny that if Ashley had gone really all out (no UR, no step-out) she would have probably won gold. Assuming the edge call on Evgenia was also called.

Wow, that would have been something wouldn't it?

Miki is a two time World Champion, something Rika will never be. I agree her posture is not the best, but she evokes emotion. May be I like her so much because for me she channels Akiko and gosh, how I miss Akiko.

How do u know that she'll never be? I need ur mirror ball!!! Anyone can be a world champ!

Sure, if you say so. Coincidence that the skaters who go through puberty just happen to be the ones who don't make onto the national team?

Me? I don't get invested in Russian skaters, knowing they'll be kicked out once they reach the retirement age of 18. Wouldn't be surprised if next year, Anna and Radio become the new Lip and Adelina and Tukt.

Every country's skaters do go through puberty, though. Russia certainly has the most young skaters reaching such a good level so early, so perhaps it's more noticeable as they fall off afterwards. Sotnikova's situation is more a result of her absence I'd say and Tuktamysheva is already well past puberty so that really can't be it. She's looked like a mature lady for a significant amount of time already. Lipnitskaya definitely has issues right now, that's true and her technique on most jumps always was terrible too.

Normally I would agree.... except that Frank and Gracie have both said that it is almost entirely mental. She has improved VASTLY when it comes to competing, don't get my wrong, but it's mental. That 3+3 at the beginning should be cake. She is flawless in practice but can never deliver, especially if she is in front/leading/favored. She has a sport psychologist, which is who I credit for the improvement in her performance. Of course, anything can happen, but I don't see her improving in terms of competing. Tbh, she doesn't even seem that interested. She has mentioned numerous times that she will be done after the next Olympics (if she goes) and doesn't see herself skating as long as Ashley. I think that kind of mentality hurts her skating. I have a few friends that skated with her growing up that said she has always been like this (her sister is way more into it than she is... too bad their coach when they were younger forced her sister into ice dance for a while). Like, obviously she is a leading lady in the US, so I'm not trying to say anything against her, but if anything, trying to compete with Wagner will make it worse.

Just because Gracie would like to retire after 2018 and pursue other interests doesn't mean that she isn't committed for the next few years. IIRC, Yuzuru has also said he will retire after 2018. Does that mean his mentality hurts his skating?

Gracie is a headcase competitor. I'm a very anxious person myself, and it keeps me from succeeding at a lot of things I'd like to do well at. It doesn't mean I'm bad, or lazy, or my mentality is wrong. It's just who I am and how my brain works, and I have zero control over it other than to work hard to improve and challenge myself and see what happens. My brain isn't magically going to change, unfortunately.

I think Gracie's mental issues have improved with time. Look at her Worlds meltdown last season during the SP; it was a mess. Being in first after the SP this time around, and skating second to last, could've meant an LP meltdown of epic proportions. It didn't. That's something.

I think it was just a simple "excited & forgot" - at the end of the press conference she went over to Ashley and they shared a super sweet hug. Two of them, actually.

I'm so glad to hear this. Understandable- she's still a teenager and she had major redemption tonight- thanks!

Just want to add. Ashley's Moulin Rouge is the absolutely perfect to close the show... grand closing. how can the judges not get sentimental and give it a few extra boost anywhere in the world, but especaily at home? It is a veteran, sunset boulavard, final hurrah type of program for the grand veterans (which only she and Mao shares the only billing among all the ladies right now)!

Looking gorgeous! Diva her way to a dream finish! Congratulations!

Well, US homecooking was on full display here. This should have been:
1. Bear
2. Pogo
3. Satoko
4. Radio
5. Wagner
6. Gold

Bear got 15+ points on GOE. Damn.

For the record: I'm totally fine with so called "homecooking" and home-inflation as long the home skater skates clean.

Mine is:

1. Bear (no comments, although WR is probably too soon for her. If she will perform the same way next year - WR for sure. But tonight it was a bit too high for her. Exactly 0.04 too high :)
2. Pogo (2 great all-clean skates. This night she DID most def deserved silver, but I can agree with judges which underscored her in PCS tonight. One needs to be very consistent skater to get higher PCS. Next year if she would be making it to national team she would be recovering higher pcs from judges. Most likely she will keep all her jumping skills, she is 17 and earlier blooming woman. She reminds me a cross between Butirskaya and Slutskaya.)
3. Wagner (2 cleanish perfo + very good selling skills, although her choreo is a bit set of cliches and platitudes. I seen all her beautiful elements in other most big famous programs of great skaters of the past. Feels like choreographer just went back in time and collected everything what "works", nothing really fresh or innovative. If you look closely enough, you will start recognizing almost every single element of her choreography were just copied bit to bit from other peoples' programs. Although it's not Wagner's fault at all) Although I kinda feel like she was more selling her good looks and curves, but not her art of figure skating. But it's just me.)
4. Satoko (was clean, but again not flashy and not charismatic. Her fellow country ladies can chime in here: she seems to me a bit shy and introvert. Any good performer should be extremely extrovert)
5. Gold (SP was good, should have kept that score advantage)
6. Radio (2 very shaky, SP and FS, perhaps got too nervous or imagined herself on a podium too soon. You know all those TV interviews and participation in shows on big TV channels. Nerves+teenage ego got better of her.)

Thoughts on Ladies:

Evgenia: was perfection I thoroughly enjoyed her performance. The WR doesn't bother me it was going to be broken eventually.

Ashley: was Ashely. She went out there and attacked it. She was selling the heck out of her program and the audience loved it. I would have had her in 3rd with her flawed FS but it is what it is.

Anna: was clean for once. While I'm not personally a fan of her programs props to her for delivering two clean performances.

Gracie: was Gracie. She just couldn't deliver when it really mattered.

Mao: was exquisite as always!

Rika: was brilliant! Her Riverdance was the performance of the night for me and my mom! My mom loved her dress, said it was her favorite dress out of all the ladies! The crowd went crazy over Riverdance!

I went looking on Wikipedia and I'm pretty she is the first to win Senior Worlds in her Senior Debut season, Oksana Baiul won Worlds on her debut but in the previous season she had already competed once as a senior, correct me if I'm wrong

This was some of the highest level skating I've ever seen, so many clean performances, I'm so impressed

I think that title goes to Kimmie Meissner. Let's not already forget about her just because the drought is over.

Excellent competition, very spectacular.

About Satoko, can someone explain to me why is this so weird?
She has tiny jumps, many people say she ur or prerotated, anyway, judges give her high TES, then you check her PCS and are soooo low. Why?????
Judges are really so vulgar that they truly think the Titanic program is really better than Satoko´s? Evgenia has better SS than Satoko :roll9:? Gracie better performance/execution than Satoko :noshake:?
If they want underscore her, why don´t to call her ur or prerotations? I mean, I don´t understand their logic. Judges don´t love her and her PCS show it. It is possible it is not written the prerotation thing at books? The rules are clear about prerotations? because Mao get her ur calls very often, it does not matter her big name or if she is japanese.

And I love Satoko, she is lovely, but everyone in this forum say very sure that she does not deserves her TES and is so difficult understand for me why judges don´t do something if this is really true. Mao means big money, she is MAO ASADA, and they don´t care and don´t overlook her ur, in fact they are in extreme strict with her.
