2016 World Championships Ladies Free Skate

I'm glad this thread is so positive. I'm heading to bed before it changes and people start talking about conspiracy. :bed:

sad for Lenok & I actually will miss JACKKKKKKKK. But she's growing & Im proud that she's fighting like that!

Best Worlds ever!!!! :agree2:

Well. I kinda had a feeling Gracie would not be able to hold up under the pressure of being in first after the SP on home ice. That is a lot of pressure. But! Someone else was up to the challenge... Ashley is solid and determined. So happy for her, so well deserved.:hap10:

Shows that Ashley has all the goods but she still needs to work on her very basic fundamentals. Shes still making mistakes that costs her points here and there. I was hoping that she actually wins the gold medal instead of Evgenia. Nevertheless, props to Evgenia for skating 2 completely clean programs although she had a bogus lutz.

And once again, Gracie succumbs to pressure. I don't blame her, but she should start looking out for a good sports psychologist soon and she has never ever skated a clean SP and LP if I recalled correctly. If she does, she will be unstoppable even in the face of the usually inflated Russians.

Now for the provocative part....
I know this seems a little late, but a WR for Evgenia? Seriously? Saying this in the presence of anger, but why not give the Evgenia LP video downvotes too because shes even more ridiculously overscored than Gracie? (Please don't do that to either skater) I guess Mao Asada should just retire now in the midst of all these Russian overscoring. When an American is slightly overscored, everyone overreacts. When the Russians have been all along overscored (with the exception of Pogo and Elena, they're slightly underscored if you place them beside Evgenia), people take their overdramatic 'musicality' and say it deserves higher PCS than the big names. (Evgenia has more PCS than Asada???????) Elena knows figure skating at the back of her hands, and there is a reason why she appears to hate Evgenia. Even their own kind is irritated at the Evgenia overscoring. Personally, Yuna's LP felt more memorable when I first saw it compared to the W/E program by Evgenia which I actually have little memory of it as of now.

Nobody on the Russian team "hates" Med:palmf: And Ashley, while great, was absolutely overscored tonight. She deserved a good 3 place, not the 2nd. And also Zhenia isn't just overrated and given scores like candy just for nothing, you know. She has the TES and PCS, even if biased you don't see it. Cheers!

Mine is:

3. Wagner (2 cleanish perfo + very good selling skills, although her choreo is a bit set of cliches and platitudes. I seen all her beautiful elements in other most big famous programs of great skaters of the past. Feels like choreographer just went back in time and collected everything what "works", nothing really fresh or innovative. If you look closely enough, you will start recognizing almost every single element of her choreography were just copied bit to bit from other peoples' programs. Although it's not Wagner's fault at all) Although I kinda feel like she was more selling her good looks and curves, but not her art of figure skating. But it's just me.)

It is not only you. I loved her Mills programs, but feel that her programs now have too much posing. Kind of the same as Adam's. I feel it is ok to sell your programs, but the way they do it is not artistic to me, it is more showy and sometimes feels almost vulgar. I hope we will see something different from both of them next year. I any case congrats to Ashley!!

Yep. It's like watching Petipa's choreography by Mariinsky after Balanchine ballet style by ABT. Matter of taste, but I know for a fact that sometimes judges go to ballet together. At least East Europeans do. They are very up to date with all modern influences and new aesthetics of lines and moves.

Consider pcs other get Mao should get 75+ . She really has no mean bones in her body, not showing any discontent just smile and be glad for others.

Gracie should be very angry she let that go. She has it all. Her father is. Doctor right? Gracie should have the best shrink money can buy. She needs to try hypnosis. And I hate to say this but Gracie and Carly sound like Valley Girls. If Gracie loves to perform to say Taylor Swift music or whatever just let her. She is kinda like Mirai. This little Evgenia is no great Artiste. She's still small and skinny and jumps cleanly and tanks every last jump and does great back loading. Eteri is good at Math. Evgenia may not be champion next year. There are some amazing Juniors. I'll guess we will have another Russian Champion next year. Look at Liza with her jumps and triple axel. Evgenia could repeat but injuries growth spurt weight gain. I expect Eteri has another girl. I expect a Russian to win in 2018 unless it's really close and the Koreans remember Sochi!!!! Home advantage is huge. Gracie didn't really deserve 4th but Judges want her to have hope.

I agree with those points. I'm not saying she should turn "Shake it Off" into her next long program, but if she's able to connect more with modern music and musicals (based on her Chicago exhibition) better than classical pieces and warhorses, then hey, go with it. We see programs skated to Moulin Rouge, MUSE, Coldplay, Elvis, Titanic, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Michael Buble, music from newer movies (How to Train Your Dragon), and even youtube covers (bless you for that, Mirai) it's not exactly super scandalous to break away from some traditional choices of music.

It is interesting that people have mentioned that she seemed more into her Firebird program at Skate America and I think this is also true for her performance at Glacier Falls. I'm not sure if she feels it's distracting to emote so they need to train the smile/emotions like Mirai does, if she got tired of the music after hearing it over 9000 times (understandably so), or if she just gets stuck in her own head when the pressure is on, but I hope next season they can find something that drives her. She said in a TSL interview that sometimes she thinks the music chosen is "nice" or "pretty" so I guess she needs to find that real fit.

The youtube like check for top 6, 2 highest view counts:

Evgenia Medvedeva: 153-65
Ashley Wagner: 90-19
Anna Pogorilaya: 78-3
Gracie Gold: 16-45
Satoko Miyahara: 39-10
Elena Radionova: 51-3

I wonder what this signifies. Anna Pogorilaya always has massive like-dislike ratios by the way.

I was in the arena tonight and what a treat!! Great skating by all the ladies with the last group really rocking it. So proud of Ashley!!

I thought the judging was right on with the exception of Gabby. I'd have her lower given the mistakes she made. Mao was lovely, but really, really slow. The program looked very labored and without the speed and energy of the top girls.

Best World's ladies competition in years, and like others have said, worth every penny! :hap10:

It totally seemed like she was over the music when she was skating to Firebird tonight. It might be a problem of over practicing the program that you don't enjoy the music anymore. I honestly enjoy her skate America performance of Firebird the best. Even at nationals with the triple salcow, I didn't like her performance as much as she was more stone-faced

First time in last 10 years an american lady got a medal in WC Congratulations Ashley!!

I think if Worlds was not in the U.S. Anna would have beaten Ashley for the silver and it would have been Russia 1-2 :slink: Of course they couldn't let that happen on U.S. ice so they lucked out that one American didn't bomb.

I also think its safe to say that Gracie Gold is by far on a consistent basis the most over marked lady currently competing right now, no question about it. I mean it would make some sense if she had a reputation as a winner or skating cleanly multiple times at big events but she doesn't. Ever since her arrival on the scene she's been making costly mistakes over and over, competition after competition. No World or Olympic medals in her shoe box and yet she gets the reputation points as if she were Michelle Kwan. There some real hardcore politiking at work :bang:
