2016-2017 Programs by Discipline

I am probably in minority but I am so tired of pop music since the vocals allowed it totally overtook FS.:(

No, you are not a minority. I am tired of pop music either. I actually turn sound off, or not to watch at all. From the point of music psychology ( I do work in this field)...anyway....

No, you are not a minority. You are not the only one who is tired of pop music. I actually turn a sound off whenever it is possible during SP/FP (or do not watch at all). Uh, and from the perspective of music psychology... anyway...

Given the pace at which the Americans are going I can see all three in the top five come Olympics with P/C of course and V/M. I have no idea about final placement except maybe for P/C. This is an extremely important year for the Russians in terms of music choices and desired impact. They have a whole lot of catching up to do. Next season is going to be very interesting.

And what placement is P/C going to be? I want to get my predictions right.

It's still rarely used.

There are times when I really want previous rules (no vocal) back, bar Ice Dancing obviously. All those voice-overs *cringe*, there are also some songs that I dislike which make their appearance.

Lot of people think the gold medal is already awarded.

For me, it depends on the song AND the skater. Because some slaters can't really skate to some type of music. Josh Farris to "Give Me Love...." (Wait is that pop?) that was BRILLIANT.

I mean it's your opinion and I respect that. Just like I don't bash when people wish different types of classical music. As I'm one who looks for modern music. I like to be more creative in choices. I mean I KNOW there are pieces of classical music that hasn't been used or RARELY used, but like I said I wish skaters think more outside the box for something THEY like. Nothing something that will always please the coach and judges.

Like there are a LOT of pop songs I think can work VERY well. Well most of them are B-side songs and have to be skated to BIG motions and movement and that stuff. Like "Vapor" by 5 Seconds of Summer, "Outer Space" by 5 Seconds of Summer, "Invisible" by 5 Seconds of Summer, "Moments" by One Direction, "Something Great" by One Direction, and "With You in Your Dreams" by Hanson. Yes. I know most of these songs are by bands or boybands VERY popular among teen girls today or of the 90's, but don't discount these songs just because of it.

Carolina Moscheni & Adam Lukacs (Hungary)

For short dance we will skate to "Apologize" from Timbaland and "Show me the money" from the movie soundtrack of Step Up.
For the free dance we chose "Ne me quitte pas" from Celine Dion.

... Does the ISU not keep these music somewhere that fans can download the soundtracks?

The ISU does not own rights to the music.

I agree. I don't mind the music. I actually love Coomes & Buckland's Butterflies & Hurricanes program. But, IMO, the Muse vocals are just ghastly. Duhamel & Radford's program from last season--like howling.

Just catching up....these posts about Muse are hilarious:laugh: I think Matthew Bellamy is an all around talented musician, including vocals, and I like Muse (The Resistance is among my favorite song and album of theirs). That said, I can certainly understand some of the negative reactions posted here. Their songs do all tend to sound alike, because
they're mostly in a minor key, and there is a fair amount of falsetto screeching. But mostly, I just don't think their songs translate very well to figure skating programs - maybe because they tend to create a relentlessly dark and heavy mood. My personal favorite musical works are by Beethoven, especially his symphonies, and I wish there were more programs using his music. However, I could see Beethoven's music also being difficult to skate to and interpret because of their complicated depth of emotion.

Tatsuki Machida's LP in 2014 at SA brought a depth of Beethoven on the ice. He was like a conductor of orchestra of Beethoven's 9th, where orchestra was his own body/skating.

On the other note, I wish Ashley Wagner to challenge herself and to skate a classical music ( a naive wish...) there is a deeply hidden softness in her, a loving heart which she, consciously or unconsciously, hides and never brings to the ice.

Agreed! That was an extraordinarily beautiful, and difficult, program. If only he had been able to have one perfect performance of it....

Yes, it was (is!) an extraordinarily beautiful.
Also, when I watch Wagner 2012 gala performance, there is such softness in her, fluidity. It is so sad, that it is not brought to light anymore. I do have this naive wish for Ashley one day to challenge herself with a classical music, and completely different choreography, otherwise she has become as pop diva in figure skating...
