NOT AT ALL ! Make things difficult for them !
My point is that it has nothing to do with musics and choreos, but lot to do with how it is skated and how the judges have already formed an idea on the pair.
Shibs were deemed too scholarly, and they came up with "Fix you" , which is a good piece of popular music, but it's not Rachmaninoff (which, by the way, was good last year for Radionova). But they are young, American, good for them to choose Cold Play.
Last year our Cappellini/Lanotte changed type of music and style, Saint Saens and it went very badly (and Lanotte was injured). This year a well known Italian music score again. Perfect ! They won CoC (first time ever), they arrived third at GP final (first time ever, underscored), they were 2nd at Euros and went from 6th to 4th at Worlds.
P/C broke with Mozart (not a classic, no ?) and now they can skate everything they want, every way they want, simple or elaborated choreos, tow feet or single foot, too united, because in the eyes of judges, public and critics (not mine) they are the BEST NEW couple in the Olympic quadrennial.
And it is not the SD which makes you win, but the FD. So, stop fighting here one with the other. Just a suggestion.

I don't understand what your point is or how that is relevant to the discussion about Chock/Bates' music choice. Just seems like an way to talk about how much better P/C are, unless your point is that nobody is even worth discussing in comparison to P/C, so don't bother being interested in any other team.

Personally, I am thinking of bowing before Bobrova & Soloviev
All hail the real queen!

Nobody said Chock and Bates or the Shibs would win the Olympics or Worlds.
Exactly. People were just arguing about music and choreo, and here another poster comes and says 'stop arguing. Papadakis/Cizeron will easily win everything even if they will be skating to the sound of chainsaw on two feet round and round the rink'. :confused2:

Geez, too premature to say who will win the Olympic Gold in Korea .... Even too early to say who will win the World's next year. A lot can happen. Who would have predicted the Shibs' success in 2015-16 season? They didn't even make it to the 2015 GPF podium. Who would have thought P/C would win the 2015 World's _ they were ranked 13th (I think)? I am just hoping we will have an exciting Ice-dancing season and it looks like we will have an interesting season considering all the music choices we're hearing around.

I just think it's odd someone thinks Queen and David Bowie's "Under Pressure" has no highs and lows or emotional impact. I felt it when I first heard it when I was just a kid, and I certainly feel it now that I'm an adult juggling everything and trying to live up to expectations I set for myself and what society and family has put on me. I really look forward to seeing what Chock/Bates with Christopher Dean has to offer us, and I'm saying this as a huge Shibs fan (though loving one team isn't mutually exclusive from liking/loving the other).

There's a reason why that song has resonated with so many throughout the decades and is used in many films as a mood setting piece.

Maybe they only know it as Ice Ice Baby?

I certainly didn't. And I'm being honest. However, after Nationals and 4CC, I knew they had a shot.

Yeah, after the US Nationals and 4CC but not before. Of course, when I learned that Worlds would be in Boston, I knew they would definitely make it to the podium. However, I didn't think they would beat or surpass P/C based on the latter's European's performance and score.

Honestly, after the GPF, I thought they were going to be given the Davis/White in 2009 treatment even with Worlds in Boston. It was not until Four Continents where I started to see that the slowly improving scores (especially in PCS and GOE) that they had been receiving since Skate Canada was finally improving to the point where they were true medal contenders. The Shibs really demanded that respect back. They did something that was pretty impossible in ice dance, even under IJS until now, and got back into being top tier after losing "favor" by a long way in the last Olympic cycle and then after being relegated to a sort of buffer team separating the top tier and second tier after the 2014 Olympics. I know most people think they'll never hit this high again and "Fix You" was a fluke, but I honestly saw after Nationals that they became a team that sort of outgrew that dance and could really do something even better.

I'm hoping for something interesting and avant-garde from Christopher Dean for Chock/Bates, even if I have my doubts about their music choice. I've found their FDs to be pretty but generic in the past, so I'm glad they're going outside of the box.

Hmm, isn't that a war horse? I thought P/C don't do the war horse thing...

:confused2:

I personally think that Under Pressure is a great choice for Madison and Evan. I don't think they're able to portray romantic themes that well, and it seems as though that's all they skate to, so an upbeat song such as this is a welcome change for me! Honestly, anything beats their FD from this season, IMO...

It is the off season so I have been watching some old performances. The other night I re-watched Dube/Davison's bronze medal winning free skate form 2008 worlds. It really was a stand out skate and the music was great. I couldn't help but wonder what Weaver/Poje could do with a great piece of music like this. They really need to find a stand out piece like this and skate to it with their whole heart. That is what they do best. But they really need to find a stand out piece or even use this music. If they don't come out with a great piece next year I can see them dropping in further in the standings. Just look what finding a great piece did for rejuvenating the Shibs.
