Grand Prix 2016-17 News/Speculation

Open slots are in extremely short supply this season in dance. We haven't had any teams announce that they are out except Popova & Vlasenko. Unless that changes, I'm still counting as few as only one open slot in dance. And that's with the following teams having only one event--at home unless their host spots are already filled with other teams on this list or unless the team is from a non-host country:

Bobrova & Soloviev
Ilinykh & Zhiganshin
Stepanova & Bukin
McNamara & Carpenter
The Parsons
Tobias & Tkachenko
Testa & Csolley
Hawayek & Baker
Fournier-Beaudry & Sorenson
Lauriault & Le Gac
Cannuscio & McManus
Wang & Liu
Paradis & Ouellette
Muramoto & Reed

Possibilities for more openings:
If V&M do only one event, there would be one more.
If V&M and W&P both go to Skate Canada or V&M and G&P both go to Skate Canada, there would be one more.
If Japan throws a slot back in the pile (they did last season), there would be one more.
If the Parsons and McNamara & Carpenter remain juniors, there would be two more (plus two openings on the current top 5 season's best list).
If France throws back in a slot, there will be one more. (I don't believe they did this until after the GP selection last season).
If China throws back in a slot, there will be one more. (China used all three of its slots last year. They have had one retirement, but they also have a junior team aging up so I wouldn't get my hopes up here).

When is the ISU going to announce the time of when the assignments will be up? Like we've waited long enough. At least let us know what time on the clock it'll be at lol.

I am expecting that I will wake up tomorrow morning to them, as I did last year.

They will be released at 3PM PST or 6PM EST. I heard there will be 10 spots per event per discipline? Anyone heard this?

That would open up so many dance spots...pure speculation, but oh, the possibilities.

There are no sources. Only possibilities. GLORIOUS POSSIBILITIES...

Am I misunderstanding you, or are you saying that according to your source, the number of men and ladies at each event will be reduced from 12 each to 10?

No, it would be awful! Oh no, I hope this isn't true!

Try imagining those singles fields were all reduced to eight, and then we'll talk about what would be awful. Meanwhile, relax. Apparently it's not an issue even in the world of speculation.

FWIW:

The May 5 USFS press release re 2016 Skate America said:
...The field of competitors will include 56 world-class athletes ...
http://www.usfsa.org/story?id=89612&type=media

12 men + 12 ladies + 8 pairs + 8 dance couples would be 56 skaters.

But I can't rule out the possibility that since May 5, the ISU perhaps changed the number of slots??

(As an aside, I noticed a few weeks ago that the official Skate America website says:
...The event will feature 58 athletes representing 12 nations ....
Struck me as very weird, b/c regardless of the exact number of skaters, how could it have been known so early how many nations would be represented??
At the time, I thought 58 was a typo for 56.)

Don't believe it for a second, sorry. But if that's correct I'll be very happy.

An increase of the dance spots would make me so happy! There are too many good teams who would be left with just one spot, like I/Z and B/S.

Considering that the announcement will be made by ISU, this is unlikely. 3PM PST or 6PM EST means midnight CET, the time zone for Switzerland.
