Patrick Chan

Aw, thanks for all the kind words, my fellow fans. Right now I am musing on a post about Patrick's move that I hope to publish soon.

Oh, my little suggestion is also included.

Of course! Thank you for contributing! I had to nag some fans to get their ideas, lol.

Did some one suggest "Four Seasons" again? I love both versions of 2008 and 2013, but any chance for a 3rd version? Is it too late now if he hasn't decided what music to use? I start to worry a little bit.

Yes, someone suggested the Four Seasons again, except with the Winter Largo added (instead of Corelli's Concerto Grosso, I'm assuming). I don't know if he has decided on his music yet, but I don't think he'll do the Four Season again. In fact, I was surprised when he told Krunchii (10 days ago, to be exact) that he didn't know what music he was going to skate to yet. I thought for sure he had some ideas! Maybe he let's Kathy and the choreographers decide, I don't know.

vivley Any news on when Patrick will start competing? In 2013 he showed up to Thornhill Summer Skate, but he's not on the interim entry list released last week.

I hope his first competition allows him to do both SP and FS. Japan Open is nice, but I think last year he needed more mileage with the SP than the FS.

Thank you, Mango. I'm glad to see you back! I haven't found any news on competitions yet. I just checked the Skate Canada International Assignments page and there's no information listed there yet. Patrick did say he wanted to do as many international competitions as possible, so I expect him to be at every competition he can possibly enter. Hopefully it won't be too exhausting for him.

I really don't want him to go to Japan Open... sigh.. it's at the same time as the competition in Montreal (autumn something classic or something) and I am dreaming he will be at that competition...

:) but of course now, japan is almost just a close by as montreal now that he is relocated to vancouver..

fingers crossed... come to meeeee patrick... come to meeeee :) hahahahaa

Haha, why don't you ask him?

Might he do BC Summerskate?

Welcome, Eyeballlickinggecko! What an interesting name you have! Do you know when the BC Summerskate takes place? I'm sure Patrick will be moving most of the month of July, then he'll do his shows in Japan at the end of July/early August.

Anyway, please let me know if you have feedback, ideas or suggestions for the fan site. Thanks!

It's around mid August so the timing might not work out if he still hasn't chosen any music and is still doing shows. I figured he might do BC Summerskate just because it'll require no travel time and give him an idea of problems he might need to work out in the programs before doing any international competitions.

Hi all, if you are interested, I wrote this blog post on what it will cost Patrick (and coach Kathy) to live in Vancouver vs. Detroit (Kansas City).

I really enjoyed writing this article and doing the research for it. Let me know what you think!

Only for fun:

"What style of music would be your guess for program music this year for @Pchiddy ? "

Thank you, Calica! For some reason I couldn't open PJ's Facebook links from Twitter, but I could open your link.

So... anyone want to guess what song he's skating to? Is it a soundtrack? Or dare I say... crossover piece?

OMG..... Patrick's skating in these videos... i am dying here.... OMG  GORGEOUS

the music is of the crossover genre vivley if you insist. The little bits we heard of, it's nice. Better than the piece Eric and Meagan used a couple years back. I think what is awesome though is how Patrick is gliding on it. It is a very good choice for him. I think this will be a great program. Cannot wait to see it ... in Montreal... Patrick... come to me... :) come to the Skate Canada Autumn Classic ;)

Patrick's seemingly weightless gliding and his beautiful movements are instantly breathtaking. So looking forward to this program in its full glory.

This is the first time Patrick will compete at COC. I'm excited for him. Nice to see the two Asian events moved to be the last ones.

Get yourself a new title in your collection, Patrick!

Wow, a new piece of music called "A Journey", by Eric Radford!

Didn't I say a couple of months ago that perhaps Patrick should skate to something that was composed for him by a contemporary Canadian composer? Even better is that the composer is his friend and fellow skater! So happy for him, and I can't wait to hear (and see) the entire piece!

Patrick acknowledged that sometimes there's a little animosity between skaters. Wonderful to hear him talk about his new music reflecting the journey of his friendship with Eric, so that it is something personally meaningful. That will be a source of strength when he is skating in competition, I'm sure.

Regarding his Grand Prix assignments, having him compete with Hanyu at SC and Jin at COC means he will face two of his biggest competitors head on, which will be good for him. I see that Daniel Samohin and Han Yan, two skaters who admire Patrick, will be at both competitions as well. So it will be a good mix. Go Patrick!

Now I must go update my fan page. :)

good article... i mean GREAT article. it's so refreshing to read something that is so positive about Patrick. Of course it's by PJ but still. I am beyond thrilled with this new program. And yes, I like how he fell in love with the music of one of his great friends. Patrick is the kind of human being who seems to connect deeply with people and music and in here, he gets both. I feel this could be the program of a lifetime... and I thought it was when I first saw Aranjuez, then when i first saw Elegy... then the seasons and then i thought the chopin had surpassed all of that.. .and yet, we may be in for an even bigger treat? WOW!

damn it... i looked at my schedule... I cannot make Skate Canada... I already have a commitment :( SIGH.... I already had a place to stay and plenty of airmiles to make the trip cheapo.... :palmf:

I'm also very happy about Patrick's LP music. When I first heard that Eric and Meagan would be skating to Eric's music in the Olympic season, I thought it wasn't a good idea, as I imagined music composed by a figure skater would be like elevator music, and then I was astounded when I actually heard it. It's still my favorite of their programs. And I think its style would suit Patrick perfectly. And now that I read that this piece would be personally meaningful to him as well - why, it doesn't get better than that! So looking forward to seeing it!

That's a pity! Could you see him at Nationals, or maybe he'll do a senior B in North America?
