Patrick Chan

Lovely program other than the jumps, but I wish the video quality was a bit better to see it in its full glory. Favorite parts were the twizzle to camel-change-camel (tasteful variations and good speed and centering), the step sequence, and the last combo spin. The program has brilliant potential, which I never felt about MTK last season (Nationals notwithstanding).

Did you see it on DailyMotion? You can adjust it to HD.

But yes, you are right on. Thanks for your comments!

You're so right -- the DailyMotion video is much clearer, especially in HD. Thanks! I saw that it was there but hadn't watched it yet. The jumps seemed "heavy" instead of light and easy like they are when he does them cleanly. Oh well, his season has begun! Excited to see his full LP soon! :yay:

I really like the new Patrick Chan. Maybe not new for everyone but I felt that last year his skating was tired and uninspired. This new coaching situation seems to have given him some new life. I just love how he glides on the ice and how his footwork embodies every beat of the music.

While I wouldn't have put it quite that way, I'm also very positive about Patrick's new vibe.:hap93:

These are some things that struck me when I watched his SP:

1] He looked happy, joyful -- jumps not withstanding, even in the KnC there was a smile creeping at the edge of Patrick and Marina's mouths.

2] His expression reached out to the audience, not inwards in himself

3] Energy built through his program, despite the jump challenges, as his movement resonated with the beat and melody, as compared just reflecting or aligning...

4] That Patrick himself was truly excited to be out there, that he appears to have rediscovered something important to him in skating, and that perhaps the jump issues are a result of an adrenaline rush that he hasn't been feeling in competition for some time,

5] And that Marina Zoueva and Patrick are truly connecting with one another, like each other, and are taking this as a shared adventure.

In all, I was left sensing the promise of more, of greater greatness  , and I'm looking to enjoy the ride as a fan through to the next Olympic games.

I really really like the new Patrick, on and off the ice. He looks, talks, and behaves as a person who knows himself, and is therefore confident, relaxed, unperturbed, natural and happy. To me he seems to have found the inner peace and freedom and is at ease with being himself and what he sets out to do.

People should really conserve all the (whatever 4-letter word you choose) they have to give. When you don't easily give one to everything and every opinion, you can focus your energy on what matters to you. I believe Patrick really is skating for himself, happily and aligning with his objective. He doesn't worry, neither do I. Let's all enjoy his journey and every gift along the way.

BTW, it was a wonderful SP he performed, something to smile along with. The jumps? He will find the way to make them his buddies in competitions.

Here are two photochans based on the suggestion of Violet Bliss/Tzazu.

Here's a timetable of when the men skate tomorrow:

Patrick skates at 2:55 p.m. local time, which is 7:55 a.m. Toronto time, 4:55 p.m. Vancouver time.

Anyone getting up early to watch?

Is it just me or did Patrick completely change the placement of his jumps in the SP? the 4T(-3T), 3A and 3Lz are all in new places in the rink. I guess new coach means new everything? Hopefully he irons out his jump problems and gets used to the new layout by SC. I want to see some clean performances live:)

A bit late to the Finlandia party here but yay Patrick! He stayed on his feet, which is an improvement from the last time we saw an SP. Those stepouts seem to be a result of reworking his jump technique to have better success staying on his feet. I think most of us predicted a black costume so yay for that. I like the costume for being monochromatic, simple, but not casual. Totally Chiddy's style.

Most of all, I was glad to see him relaxed, having a meaningful conversation with Marina, and giving an interview where he's being honest but not frustrated or offering censure. He's grown up. He's set some goals and is working on achieving them. He's off to a decent start. Hoping to see an even better performance today to Eric's lovely music.

Adding a post script: I think Marina sees the potential Patrick would have in ice dance and she is thrilled to have him training under her. I've thought for some time that with the right partner (one with great edges and lines) Patrick could potentially have a second career in ice dance. Maybe something to think about post-Pyeongchang.

With his new SP, I'm falling in love with Patrick's skating again.

Although I try to support all skaters, I tend to set a high bar for those who have been considered "great", so I need to be pushed constantly by their greatness. If such skaters keep presenting great programs, I become their ubers. And then Patrick's new SP was such a delight for me. The program was so refreshing and joyful that it consoled my tired eyes and ears caused by all warhorses and coarse skating these days.

Patrick looked really happy with who he was in the program, so that made me smile accordingly. How light and airy his upper body movements were to the music, so I felt like I breathed fresh air in the middle of luxuriant forest for a long time out of a polluted city where we live and work every day. Some people said the program was meant for children, but I don't know what was behind the comment because I didn't catch who are Patrick's fans or non-fans. Regardless, I took it as a compliment because the lyrics dreaming for a peaceful and better world is what our children need for their future. :)

I believe that this not for his new team but new strategy. in the worldchamp., most skaters who missed their jumps were those who had their jumps on the outside of the ice rink, maybe he is just being cautious in case that he will skate in bad ice, again.

 Seriusly, the same costume of last year... please, patrick.. the white t-shirt are not expensive

Well, last year on the JO he weared Elegy's costume for Chopin))
I think, that new costume wasn't ready now? And we see it on Skate Canada?))

Getting ready to watch Patrick live! Yay! My computer is overloaded... too many screens open trying to blog, etc.

Good luck to all watching!

My livestream kept slowing down at certain parts - will have to watch it again.

The music was lovely but seemed a bit heavy at times. Too many strings weighing down the piano, I think. They will probably make adjustments to it, like they did last season.

Good first competition effort this season - keep going, Patrick!
