Patrick Chan

Hi vivley

I notice that you've picked up on the Zueva spelling of Marina's family name in English that seems to have come into use...

Not sure if you followed the discussion on the edge about translating and pronouncing names a couple of weeks back...

I'd like to make a friendly suggestion to you and others who are Patrick's fans to honour Marina's choice and stick with Zoueva.

Hi TGee,

Thanks for reading my article! As far as the spelling of Marina's last name goes, I have always used "Zoueva", and you'll see that even in the tag cloud on my site. "Marina Zoueva" is a tag that I will be adding to my posts.

The reason why you saw "Zueva" once in my latest post is because the site FS Gossips used it in the title of their article about Patrick. In general I do not change the titles of articles unless they need to be translated.

Hope this explains the "Zueva" vs. "Zoueva" in my post. Most likely we will see both versions in use online, as annoying as that might be. Perhaps you might let the team at FS Gossips know.

Thanks again for bringing this up! :)

i was just wondering... out of curiosity... what happened to the people who started this thread... so many are long gone from GS I guess ;) liking our family of fans here... just curious about the others... so dedicated ...I guess we will be gone too at one point ;)

Exactly I agree with you. I always have the same question in my mind. Friends come and go for different reasons :scratch2:, but I wish all of us would stay strong on patrick's thread to support him. :luv17:

just reading through the first pages of that thread :) found this gem
"Chen finished with 193.90 points in the competition, a new personal best." Not Patrick of course. It was Nathan Chen, a 13-year-old who landed 7 triples, earned level four on two spins, and just captured the US junior men’s title. Imagine Chan vs. Chen in the same competition one day.

i think i have replaced a GS user called blubonnet who was very impressed with Patrick's manly beauty :) lol... i have read the first 44 pages of the thread.. well sometimes just glancing... our Violet is there early on with his very educated and comprehensive analysis... But all the others, I don't recognize... except for Spikydurian who has liked a couple of my posts at times but hasn't posted herself in a while i think???? Oh and I saw chuckm... no comment there... but yeah.. i stopped at Patrick winning Nice, his second world title. It's very interesting if you have that time on your hands to go through those pages as Patrick is becoming a man and establishing himself as the main guy.... I am not sure if I want to read until WC 2013.. because I have a feeling it will be worse and worse...

for those who don't know, I joined the forum AFTER sochi... hence my username.. Patrick was gone from competition but would remain 4ever special in my heart... well.. ermmm.. he came back WOOT... but yeah. I am probably just a bit nostalgic today and for some good reason. But in any case, if you want to see the banter the other chan fans had back then, it's interesting ;)

A few of the earlier posters in this thread were very disheartened with the forum but not with Patrick. I think some are just lurking here these days. Some continued in the other forum and may or may not be active there. I miss them.

Beverley Smith's article:

As quad fever sweeps skating, Patrick Chan steps up his preparations

Patrick said: “I also wanted more eyes to look at me when I’m skating,” he said. “I know that sounds weird. I know last season, I had trouble when I would get on the ice, I would get kind of spooked because I was so used to training by myself. I wasn’t used to having lots of eyes watching me perform. I wanted a little more pressure and just expectation from people as they were watching."

Glad he's got the "eyeballs" on him to help him feel more comfortable with an audience.

don't worry patrick.. I AM WATCHING YOU!!!!:jaw:

HAHAHAHAHAHA

and now that I read the article... Beverly Smith is wrong... Patrick will have 3 quads in his LP. 2 4T and 1 4S.... we clearly saw that set up at Finlandia... sigh...

Well, hello again Chiddy fans!!! First, I have a new avatar (thanks, vivley, for bringing it here all the way back on page 460). Now, here, finally, are my thoughts/favorite moments of the new LP based on Finlandia.

General thoughts:
-Hopefully we will see a new costume at SC. Watching this video, I was reminded how much I'm totally over that costume. ;) I would like a light blue shirt. He already has a black costume for the SP and he wore too much gray last year.

-the clappers were annoying and somewhat funny and definitely took me out of the mood of the program for a few moments. Bizarre.

-I'm not a fan of overhead camera shots during Patrick's programs. I want to see his whole body at all times to catch all the nuances of movement.

-Patrick looked so calm skating this LP, even with the mistakes.

Favorite LP moments (as of right now):
-the opening pose and then how he pulls his arm back to his chest. He could be reaching out to Eric and saying, "Come onto the ice with me while I do this program." When I thought of this interpretation, I was so moved.

-in the first StSeq, when he does a twizzle and then goes backward to a stop with his leg up

-whenever he does a twizzle in either step sequence (I saw 3 in the program)

-immediately after the 3A+2T, when he turns around with his arms out while simultaneously lifting his head up

-the flying sit spin and how he spins in time to the music, not super fast but not slow either (I feel like all the spins in the program keep pace with whatever the music is doing at that point).

-after the combo spin, when he glides on one foot for a moment with his arms and head up. So gorgeous it's probably worth a screencap.

If you can't tell, I :love::love: this program so much!!! There's room to grow, but I couldn't take my eyes off the screen. So many nuances. And Patrick clearly loves skating it.

nice new avatar but i loved the other one too ;)

so many moments in the LP are gorgeous. I agree with you.. so many details. I cannot wait to see it blossom by the end of the year. NATIONALS!!! HERE I COME!

Right below that post is this reply, which has now been proven WRONG! :laugh2:
One can only imagine that. Patrick will retire after Sochi. They will never compete with each other.

I joined this forum during the GPs of the 2012-2013 season. That was a tough season because lots of fans were doubting him and he never did a clean LP. And then the madness at 2013 Worlds. :slink: (more of the same from 2012 Worlds, actually). If you want to have a cry, read the posts here from after the Sochi LP (page 164+). We had A LOT of feelings to get out. Since Patrick's comeback there has been more happiness here than frustration, except for that time I complained about Yuzu after the GPF and got us way off-topic). Anyway, 4everchan, I'm glad you're here and I enjoy reading your posts very much. :)

next night of insomnia, I plan to read up to 2013... i am not sure I would be able to read the posts about Sochi... honestly when Patrick skated at sochi lost the few points he needed for the gold on silly mistakes after opening very strongly, my heart stopped. I felt dead for about 30 seconds. I felt empty. It was a true shock. I cannot even imagine how he felt... and of course, I am glad i wasn't on this forum. I would have been banned for swearing and cursing. I wonder if that's what happened to jetasian, a user who is very active in the first few pages and it is written he was bad... but he doesn't sound bad at all ;) hehe

Last night, I proudly announced in this thread that I had a new avatar. But, this morning I decided it had too much color and not enough Patrick. I played around with photos of the Finlandia LP, but Patrick wasn't smiling in them (not to mention that gray costume :noshake:). So, in the search for a smiling Patrick AND some color, I settled on the "9 Days Until Skate Canada" photo. This will probably last until after SC when hopefully Patrick will have a dashing new LP costume and be smiling while wearing it.

About the LP, I forgot to add last night that it's like Patrick is floating across the ice during this program, almost skating above the ice. He always skates fast and with good flow, but this program really gives the impression that he's actually floating. There is such an ease about it, a soft and quiet strength. He moves confidently but it's incredibly smooth and, like I said, floaty. Dare I say it looks like he's skating on top of water and not ice? It's amazing! I can't wait to see it again at SC, with the 4S debut!!! And I will put myself through Johnny and Tara's commentary just so I can watch it on a TV screen -- fingers crossed that they won't be too obnoxious this time.

ETA: I wrote a few of my favorite LP moments here last night, but truly my most favorite LP moment = EVERYTHING. The whole program is a "moment" for me because everything blends seamlessly together into a fabulous whole. So, that's why I won't list any more specific favorite moments. I'd be here all day! :)

4everchan

I'm so thankful you join this thread and I'm so grateful you have a Big Mouth  to speak up and defend Patrick from those unfair, nasty criticisms that he gets, a big thanks from me and I always enjoy your postings too.:thank:

So, skatingfan4ever, are you going to photoshop his fingers everyday to count down to Skate Canada?
Sadly, I don't know how to photoshop. Good idea, though, if someone else wants to do it and keep posting them daily until SC. ;)

Skatingfan4ever,

It's a very nice avator. A playful Patrick with his adorable big smile and the colorful background, I just love it. :) You have amazing avators and I enjoy reading all your long, detailed postings, always.
:thank: I'm glad you don't mind the length of my posts! I ramble when I get excited, and Patrick and his skating gets me excited, always.

I love your rambling, especially when it comes to Patrick's newest programs because I've been left speechless, unable to express how in awe I am. I'm hoping to recover after his even more awesome GP debut.

Oh, I see how you are... this coming from the fan who told me that Patrick doesn't need our eyes! :p

You're welcome on the avatar - looks very nice!

Lots of good observations - and you are welcome to be a guest blogger on my site, if you like. :)

Took a little break to do a little photoshopping of Itaru Chiba's fab photos of Patrick from Finlandia.

Don't know if you can see both of the pictures - but I wanted to create a different photochan than the one from SC.
