Figure Skating Anime

I wonder how Yuri is going to lose his current standing at Rostelecom this time despite skating relatively well (better than most others) and having a huge lead over skaters ranked 3 and below.

The brother/sister thing is creepy, but I bet that in the end it will be portrayed as a lot less creepy than his initial passionate monologue that he subjected the viewers to. Rather, it's just going to be a lesson where the brother finally realizes the sister is an adult individual and needs to treat her as such rather than be over-protective/possessive, and that his co-dependency on her is just a crutch that he needs to let go of in order for both of them to succeed in their individual careers. It's probably a play on sibling ice dance teams without having to animate/introduce another discipline into the show. I bet drawing/animating pairs and ice dance would be difficult.

they do but i still go it ;) hahahahaha
This needs to be done for all the skaters now now now now now I want my Americans as anime characters, they would be so cute! And Team Australia!

Also they have a wrong answer in the quiz at the bottom :palmf:

lol at this point i feel every skater is watching YOI to see if they can spot themselves in it!!

also saw that on twitter https://twitter.com/mutta0605/status/802532752486637569 made me laugh

Lol, the coat! It must be a coincidence though, right? Has Stephane been seen in Japan wearing that coat before?

I totally would believe that Stephane was a partial inspiration for Victor though, he so damn fine.

yeah it is just a coincidence (or is it?? after all we saw Stephane watched YOI with Deniss so maybe he wanted to look like Viktor at the boards!!)
I agree I never thought of him as a potential inspiration but comparing their faces, I think they look a bit alike

Yuuri was qualified to his first GPF last season, does it mean he won any medal in his grand prix series? Did the anime or the website mention anything about that?

Well we have finally made it. Goldenskate has been immortalized in fanfiction. When a friend asked me earlier if she recalled it well that I was a member here, I did not expect this was the reason why.

Yuri quickly read it, his eyes distracted by the punctuating emoticon.

you should probably check goldenskate – fan fests forum ;)

While he usually avoided online forums after a particularly painful thread discussing his performance last year, if Phichit was telling him to look it must be important. And he certainly had a sinking feeling about the winky face at the end.

We've made it :laugh2:

The story would probably be that he did medal, but there was nothing particlarly memorable or special about him.

He would have had to have, considering the YoI GP seems to follow the same qualification setup as this season. Which is why all along I've been confused why finishing 6th meant Yuri was supposed to be rubbish, terrible, blah blah blah - just GETTING to the GPF is an achievement in itself!

I don't think he was ever meant to be rubbish. Even at the beginning of the anime it is pretty clear he is a good/great skater but that is very weak mentaly, especially after crumbling at the GPF

I am not sure if karne meant that specifically, but I think the impression, at least to the general audience that knows very little about skating, was that he was rubbish. In fact I've seen it since the start all over the place and it's still holding in a surprisingly large percentage, that he was somehow a poor skater prior to Victor. There have been numerous explanations as to why this is not the case, as well as why the GPF isn't the be all end all of skating, but it's ridiculously entrenched.

was that yuuri's first time making it to the gpf last season? (where he bombed in the first ep)

im a bit confused about that too

he was portrayed as one of those lesser beta skaters (or perhaps i was projecting that onto him because of i compared him to real life skaters?)

yet he has more quads than most and is one of the top skaters artistically too, and no one necessarily seems surprised about his rise to the top this season (he already had fanboys in the other japanese skater for example)

though at the start of every episode he does mention he's one of the top skaters in the world ISU rankings lol

if he had drastically improved i feel like the press would have made a bigger point of viktor being his coach (right now they just seem to cover that only because viktor became a coach, but no coverage on viktor being a good enough coach that he transformed yuuri)

If I'm not mistaken he's the top Japanese skater. At first he only has 4T and 4S though was not consistent with 4S. There was no indication that he knew the 4F before.

I'm slightly confused about how he imitated Victor's program in the beginning, with the four different quads... I'm assuming he did triples in place of some? Because if he did all those quads then Victor would have known by watching the video, but he didn't and had to ask Yuri.

Yuri already had very good PCS and good stamina, he only problems were consistency and nerves.

It wouldn't be too strange if he had trained the 4F before but never tried it in competition, and basically a skater only "has" a jump if he accomplishes it in competition.

Yeah, I assumed he did the jumps he felt comfortable with when he imitated Victor, because, otherwise, um, no. Lol.

I guess he can be Brezina type, talented both technically and artistically but rarely able to put it all together at major competitions. In this case everything you've written makes sense. Even high ranking is pretty possible.
