2017 U.S. Nationals Championship Pairs SP

Tarah and Danny started strongly, but it was so unfortunate with the fall on the throw.

Does Mervin have US citizenship? Has he applied for it?

If not, I wonder if being not "all in" has a psychological impact on them. And it might create some resentment on Marissa's part. Idk. I know I'd be frustrated.

He doesn't. And since they train in Canada, he won't ever be getting it.

Just rewound my TV and Tarah's face definitely contacted the ice. Not sure exact point of contact but could have been far enough up. Hope they check her out as soon as possible.

Another generous score.

At this point I hope Cain and LeDuc kill it tomorrow and get sent to Worlds.

I wouldn't be surprised if that has a subconscious negative effect on them. What's the motivation or drive to keep them focused? Dominate US nationals, skip the Olympics? It's a shame.

That is a crazily unpredictable SP. So sad for Tarah and Danny. They were in such a difficult position as defending champions. But Ashley and Timothy, my goodness, what a skate for them!!!

They could hope to get it for 2022. Otherwise I don't know.

I'm pretty much over Castelli/Tran at this point. They've had so many seasons to get it together and just never seem to be able to put out a clean program. Everyone talks about them having "the look" but what's the use without the elements? On the other hand, Cain/Leduc have been really impressive as a first year team - hope they have a great long!

I would be really surprised if C/T even stay together through the Olympic season...For me, I've never really *gotten* them as a team. I've never sensed the smallest amount of chemistry between them.

So basic summary of the SP: the two newly formed pairs brought some of the only clean SPs, the seasoned veterans all faltered. (Perhaps that why American pair partnerships are always so short-lived? :palmf: )

Only 7 months for the new partnership! That's quite impressive. :)

Ashley Cain and Timothy are very modest about their success in the SP.

I'm just amazed that Tarah actually managed to make it through the rest of the program. That was a scary fall, not just for her head but trying to catch herself on her arms like that.
