2017 U.S. Nationals Championship Ladies SP

Will NBC air the ladies free live on the west coast? Because on my TV guide, it says that it will air on 8pm pacific time

The scores were a bit inflated, but hey, it's Nationals! I'm glad Gracie didn't have a meltdown (definitely a step in the right direction), and I enjoyed the top three (Karen :jaw:, Mirai , and Ashley :yahoo:). The top three scores are pretty close to each other, so it'll be interesting to see how the rest of the competition pans out. Hope the free skates are relatively splat free!

Gracie came back froman 8 point deficit last year, with her newfound fire I could see her making the podium easily.

If Gracie skates clean fs I will eat my shoe. same goes for Mirai too tbh. I'm going to be there irl and I really hope everybody brings it!!

I hope Gracie can make a comeback, but I'm not waiting with bated breath. Her physical condition and technique is just not at the same crisp level it was last season.

I could hear my heart beating during Mirai's performance. This year was her chance to get back onto the podium and it looks like she's seizing the opportunity. Thank goodness. This girl has had such a hard time, it's nice to see her making a comeback.

If not for that nervous double foot on the 3Loop she'd likely be in first place I imagine. Maybe it's actually better for her to be in second a little under the radar, since Mirai doesn't have a good track record of dealing with expectations well. She seems like she is in good shape now, so I think (hope) she can pull out a LP around as clean (if not cleaner) as last years and she'll likely stay on the podium.

TBH, Gracie is no doubt talented, but I don't think she deserves to go to world's this year. She has done pretty poorly this season and has been so unreliable. She can't even do a simple fix like taking the 3flip out of the SP and doing a different triple jump instead (3L, 3Sal). It's not like she's earned individual world or olympic medals for the US. She's never even won a 4 continents medal. More accomplished skaters are getting left off the world teams in Russia and Japan. I think the SP rankings tonight were fairly accurate with a few small areas of disagreement. I hope this kind of scoring sticks in the FS.

Sounds hazardous. Will you make it to tomorrow?

Technically it already is tomorrow. Check mate.

Well.. we won't have 4everchan since he's at the event so we will have to rally the troops.

Hmmm, yes, that's quite depressing. Hopefully the remainder of our peanut gallery will show up.

If not, we can just talk about our dogs? It was my dog's birthday on Wednesday. She's two. :hb:

Did Mirai get an UR? I don't think she did. Neither did Ashley.

I hear shoes taste great with sriracha. You'd be best to livestream this feast for all to see if Gracie or Mirai find a way to win.

Did anyone else feel that the 3-3s were called generously here? Honestly a lot of them looked sketchy (>) to me; Ashley and Karen were among the beneficiaries in my opinion.

Love Ashley, but I'm not into this sp. Just seems disjointed and choppy and doesn't come together well for me.

But love her sass and attitude.
Very much looking forward to seeing her lp, she will bring it because she loves this position, the underdog.

Gracie's face at the start told the story—reminded me of Jeremy Abbott 😕

I disagree---her face at the END told the story: she was happy and relaxed for the first time this season. Of course she was tense going in, because this was the most important competition of the year for her and she knew she had to skate well.
She made a mistake (one she has done several times in the past) but she didn't dwell on it because the rest of the program was very, very good. She is in a good place now for the FS.

Agreed - you could definitely see in the replays. That's why I was so surprised when Johnny said that Karen's toe was around

The ice storm causes a delayed of delivery of carrots to the competition.

I don't think Gracie has the kind of stamina she had last year at Nationals to do a 7 triple program plus she seems slower. Now if she has the attack she had last year she could easily make the team and pass up at least 3 skaters.

She was so slow and hesitant going into the triple flip she almost came to a standstill. You knew it was not going to be a successful triple jump.

Great to see that Karen is in the first place. Hope she get it together in the FS which she showed she can do it at Cup of China. She is 17 and it is the time to settle down with your body change. Ashely looked slow today and her spins are visibly slower than usual. Not sure if it is something she cannot improve.
