2017 Europeans Ladies FS

Happy for Carolina. I'm not sure how Evgenia's programs can be ranked higher when she skates the same every time.

She's receiving the appropriate deduction for it, so I don't really see the problem.

It's also *not* just another 3T, it's a 2A-3T combo at 3:30 in her FS after two other 3-3 combos. It's unprecedented.

I disagree that it's not pushing the sport further because perhaps in the future the ISU will allow four combos instead of three. Who knows?

She won't (or shouldn't) be deducted for it... you have to judge GOE based on the whole combo and then the Zayak portion is removed.

I don't know if I'd necessarily call it "pushing the sport", but if it's increasing.

Also, while Kihira is the first skater to execute 8 triples... technically doesn't this make Medvedeva the first senior skater to successfully perform 8 clean triples in a FS (even if only 7 count)?

I would very much object to the idea. The essence of figure skating would be lost if there was more opportunities implemented into the scoring system for points for jumps. Carolina just demonstrated that there is a huge void missing in figure skating today. PCS scoring needs to have a clearer guidelines. Figure skating should not be a jump contest.

Seems like a lot of people are talking about how up to this competition Anna always won only bronze (which I also disagree with too). So, :otopic:, but am I the only one who genuinely thinks she deserved not silver but gold at the GPF? Even with the turnout in the SP, she shouldn't have been 6 points behind Evgenia, and she definitely deserved to be ahead of Evgenia in the FS too.

Anna deserved to be on the podium at 2014 Worlds. She deserved to get silver at 2016 Worlds. Imho she deserved silver at GPF. She won't ever beat Evgenia. We get it. But is that a reason to ALWAYS lowball her so that other skaters get their podium place? Argh, just thinking about it is horrible.

Thanks Meoima for telling me what happened. That I couldn't watch it is really a disappointment. I wanted to see Anna's smile.

It would bother me if one of the men threw in a 3rd 4T later in their program... because it's against the rules. Unprecedented, sure, but what is the point? Other than saying look at me and what I can do?

And it would not surprise me if it influenced the judges. Sure, they can deduct, but they can also think, wow, another hard jump and reward the program even higher marks than before. They are human, you never know.

They already allow 8 triples: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TSUEb85kiys
It's not possible without a 3A, though.

Other than Laurine should have placed 4th, I am so happy with this European! Pairs and the Ladies bring it! Now I hope to see a wonderful ice dance and men FS as well.

The results are fascinating.

Aljona and Carolina medaled here. Aljona competed in Vienna 2000 and Carolina´s first Euros were in Malmo 2003. These two are amazing athletes and legends.

Emmi was unlucky to be the first lady ever to miss Europeans Top 10 with 160+ points. Many times that has been enough for Top 6.

Sotskova is the weakest link. Euros sweep streak is lost! :noshake:

My jaw literally dropped down when she fell  That was the first time I saw her actually falling after jump, and she even did it twice. I started following Sotskova only last year though - re-watching some junior competitions also from 2015 and 2014.

There's no direct deduction but she's certainly giving up some GOE. She scored about a point lower on this jumping box than she did in the GPF!

actually agree with that:hopelessness:
I start to agree with Raf that senior comps should start with 18 years old:laugh:

I think men should start from 17 or 18, so The boys can work on their skills more and not break from quads :hopelessness:

Evgenia is cute and never takes anything for granted. Anna! first silver medal in a championship - and wow, I bet Carolina is happy with her bronze :cheer: She knew how hard this competion was going to be.

Im just happy Pogo is really fighting because you know they are ready to drop her once she fcks up. That 5 point PCS gap from Caro and Med is very telling.

I couldn't be happier, my dream podium. Oh, okay, for once I would love to see Anna on top, just because, but this is great, too, and Medvedeva really just is that good. I find no fault with her programs; I'm sure they're there, but I couldn't tell, anyway, I'm just not that into the technical stuff. I watch for the pretty and the beauty of it all, and she and the other two ladies on the podium all are able to completely draw me in, make me forget about the world around me. Also, Carolina, wow, blew me away, both skates. Great seeing her back!
