Figure Skating Anime

Flashbacks to my childhood, waking up at the middle of night without my parents knowing to watch Yu-Gi-Oh! marathons at Nickelodeon. I didn't even know that there's movies about it. I remember so little about the story, do you think I'll be lost watching them?

off topic, I know

As long as you saw the end of the original Duel Monsters (the ancient Egypt arc), the newest movie (Dark Side of Dimensions) will make sense. The first Yu-Gi-Oh! movie will also make sense since it doesn't really depend on any events from the show, Bonds Beyond Time I think you just need to have vague awareness of what YGO GX and 5Ds are about in addition to the original Yu-Gi-Oh! series.

The only part I remember is that everything was Egyptian LOL and Blue-Eyes White Dragon So I probably only watched the original series as a kid.

I remember finding out that there was a "Yu Gi Oh with orange hair" (I searched it and apparently it's the GX one) later on but never watched it. But now there's a third?? So I'll probably skip the Bonds Beyond Time one, or just yolo it.

Thanks. :dance2:

I am in another forum not related to figure skating or anime at all. I had not visited that forum in several months and yesterday I entered again and I was so surprised to see many members having pictures of YOI as avatar or signature, it was so weird :jaw:

And this is why some YoI fans really suck.

They DESECRATED Joshua's Schindler's List! And worst of all, with the song the creepy incestuous brother skates to for his sister!

I still don't understand this kind of reaction. What's up with them just wanting to do some montages and whatnot?

Also, the same thing with them not exactly knowing how FS works, but wanting to ask stuff anyway, and instead of educating the fans, I see a lot of judgement coming from this side. In a clear opportunity to bring more people to enjoy figure skating, we chose to push them away.

Oh, darling, we tried. We tried. I was very polite at first. And then the stupid and disrespectful "new fans" keep coming. I almost broke the block button on Tumblr. Whenever I see the comments like "real life Yuri on ice", I facepalm.
They comment those stuff under Zhenia's videos. And I am just like: "Well ok but at least the girl likes Yuri on ice."
I just can't stand many of them.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ybCcV1iHFiE Mao skating ¨My heart will go on¨. In youtube she has a lot of her programs changed with other music. Her masterpieces ¨skated¨to Beyonce, Kelly Clarkson, Irene Cara, Lady Gaga. I do not remember her fans getting upset about it. Montages are the most usual thing in the world, as old as youtube. I could to say montages are a popularity index.

Editing fan music videos is a big part of anime fandom (and some of those fan creations are damn brilliant). Fans who started out as anime fans just took that part of fandom with them. It's not entirely alien to FS fandom, fans have been editing, for example, Yuzuru's programs to different music for years, long before Yuri on Ice came along. (Since we don't have a real One-Winged Angel program skated by Yuzuru, attempts have been made to rectify the situation.) It's hardly impressive for a figure skating fan but really harmless... Unlike certain other practices.

Yeah, I need to apologize for that. :palmf: It was like, the 2nd or 3rd fan edit I ever made, and it's kinda terrible when I watch it back now LOL. I really hate it, but for some reason it has more views than a lot of my other videos...so I guess people have responded to it quite well.

I really love making edits with anime music though. I've also done:

Asada Mao - Kingdom Hearts
Asada Mao - Howl's Moving Castle
Asada Mao - The Tale of the Princess Kaguya
Asada Mao - Attack On Titan
Yulia Lipnitskaya - Fullmetal Alchemist

Basically, lots of Mao LOL.

:love::bow: And I love how you include the sound of the crowd.

Oh, I didn't say it's unprecendent for people to do montages about FS, what boggles me is the idea that they can't do that.

What's wrong with this? I can't see it, sorry. Block the people you can't stand, whatever, but don't forget there's stupid and disrespectful people inside the FS fandom, too, and some of them act like hooligans towards other skaters online, which is even worse, because they can't blame on their naiveté.

I didn't say there is anything wrong with editing musics. I say I can't stand those fans who keep going on and on spreading wrong information despite being told it's wrong. Many of them on Facebook on YouTube keep claiming this skate or that skate is inspired by Yuri on ice etc. it's freaking annoying since these skaters have been working on their programs for longer than that anime has been aired.
I am also much annoyed by those who keep coming to Facebook group and says something like "wow this is Yuri in real life". Ok Med likes the anime and all but her programs have nothing sort of alike that anime. Under her videos they're all "this is Yuri's female".
They even keep spreading this wrong information: "Yuri jumps quad Flip just like Hanyu!" :palmf:
Ok if there were a day Yuzuru jumped Quad Flip, his fans would be the first to freak out.
To those fans, everything comes from Yuri On ice. I have no words. Just roll my eyes.

^My favorite ones from just the comments on my videos are:

"Ooooohhh I heard Grand Prix Final" :rofl2:

"BEFORE ANYONE DOES IM SAYING IT! YURI ON ICE" (don't worry bout it, like 10 people have already said it...)

"After Yuri on Ice I can recognize some techniques xD" (like, um no you don't LOL)

But then roll them to your heart's content. I'm not saying those fans aren't annoying, but sometimes it seems like some people have contact with just this part of the fandom. Idk, I just think its detrimental throwing the fans all together in one bag, even if no one is obliged to hold their hands all the time.

Though, I wonder if this is something that happens more with japanese skaters, or not? I rarely watch many Hanyu videos, for example. I never really read those kind of comments before. YMMV

Hahaha, no need to apologize! I quite enjoyed that one! I guess the reason for the number of views is that peolle really want Yuzuru skate to that music!

As I said, I don't get what the big deal is about. Fan edits don't rob original performances of their charm, they're just harmless fun for the editors and fans of edits.

I completely agree with what you say, I'd like only like to add that all these anime fans who comment like these are probably very young and very immature people. I am sure that there are respectful, calm, mature and sensible 13-14 year old fans as well but many of them are exactly the opposite :slink:
