2017 Four Continents Men FS

Did Nathan Chen make HISTORY tonight for landing FIVE QUADS in the long? This is an international ISU event and I don't anyone has done it. Should be on the RECORD baby. And only 17 years old. AMAZING!

Yeap. Two records

First man to do 5 quads.
First man to jumped 4 different quads.

I preferred Hanyu's PCS over Nathan's TES in their FPs. They should hand out 2 golds, one for TES and one for PCS  I think Nathan could do with 1 less quad and longer transitions between jumps....

Best 4Lo goes to Shoma Uno GOE + 2.43

Yuzuru 'only' get +2.14

goes along with my "crazy predictions thread" post ;)

the issue with Hanyu's loop is that it is often tilted... so the landing is not as smooth as it could be. it's still a wonderful jump... i am just being picky... here tonight, Shoma landed the first ever quad I liked a lot from him... and that was it.. the 4Loop... i don't like his flip nor toe

best 4t-3t of the night ;) guess who it is?

not to be rude, but I honestly dont understand what people are trying to say when they say: his interpretation is good - is it the way he listens to the music?
is there a different from that to performance? Because as a casual viewer i saw moments in nathans skate where I was like YES but other parts were also just skate skate jump jump

Tell the ISU. That's what the ISU wants, and that's what Nathan is giving them because Nathan wants to win, and he loves to jump. He also has ballet training in his background and a huge capacity for further growth and maturity in all aspects of his skating. In order to land 5 quads in a program, it takes mental focus and paring down. That is nothing new. The remarkable thing about Nathan is that he's been able to complete a five-quad program relatively cleanly twice already. Although Nathan wasn't completely perfect in his fp at 4CCs, he also did not have any major lapses or messy falls like a lot of skaters with quads end up having when they try to pile on tech difficulty in their programs.

It's a real dilemma, the sport's over-focus on quads, but why does everyone complain so loudly when suddenly the order of things begins to change at the top? You either have skaters messing up and unable to skate clean programs crammed with detailed choreo and 3,4, or 5 quads and difficult transitions, or you have pared down, focused programs that are designed to give a talented skater the best opportunity to land the maximum number of quads. Suddenly quads are a problem for people who love them when their fave skaters are winning?

I dont think that Nathan Chen should score higher than Jin PCS wise... :(

I do think Nathans FS is more complete/packaged better than Boyang's and his interpretation is better, but Boyang has improved a lot from last year :)
I really hope he can get his jumps together to contend for the podium at worlds

The person being stalked by Kermit and his girlfriend?

Nathan's free program is not horrible, but if it makes you feel better to criticize his program, go ahead. If you want to see a horrible program, why not go and watch Boyang Jin's again. :drama:

What Nathan is doing is remarkable. He was not at his absolute best, but he's human and can not be perfect all the time. He certainly overall performed better than Yuzu at this competition. Nathan did not have serious technical miscues in either program, while Yuzu did. What Nathan has just accomplished at U.S. Nationals and at 4CCs tonight is absolutely amazing, remarkable and groundbreaking. Even me, as someone who feels quads are over-emphasized and over-hyped can recognize the historic nature of what Nathan is accomplishing. Nathan is laying on the quads because that's what ISU wants and will over-reward. To achieve that at the rate Nathan is doing can lead to otherwise emptier programs choreographically, but that's nothing new. While at this point, Yuzu Hanyu has more impressive choreo and maturity than Nathan, Yuzu also has some weaknesses that are never acknowledged by the judges.

Remember that Nathan is only 17 years old, and if he remains healthy, the sky is the limit in terms of his overall growth as a skater. Nathan already possesses great musicality, fierce competitiveness, amazing jumping ability, and the capacity to grow as an artist. You don't have to like his program or his skating. There's a lot I don't like that I see in this sport but I recognize I have no control over what happens in the sport, what the judges decide and the direction the sport takes. I admire Nathan's talent and his cool, calm, collected personality. He's the real deal.

Well Boyang this year has something called choreography and in-betweens which where clearly lost on Nathan. Enlightened me on where that 10+ difference in their component scores came from because there isn't much in the way of a program other than a few handraising.

Interesting how my comment was about 88 pcs and you redirected to another topic all together.

He's PCS are def higher than they should be but Yuzuru shouldn't have won this competition. What more is there to say? This grumbling about quads and component scores has been beat to death (thanks mostly to our dear Yuzu himself!)

Seeing some folks suddenly switch sides now that ya boi is on the other side of this conversation? Y'all are too much smh.

The moment Yuzuru popped his 4S I screamed in frustration. I hate that jump so much! Good for him for throwing in that last minute 4T!
