Certainly the driving beat of "Stitches" and "Treat you better" have seen them added into the playlists for the intermediate sessions and up at our club. [The music that gets played during the initial stroking warm up and when no one has the music for a run through....]

i disagree i never got ahead of Josh Garbage and now that I/M are skating to him, I can at least say, it will be over in 4 minutes if I start listening to these people's music, it stays in my brain forever.... because it is associated in the music department of my memory.. Josh Garbage is associated only to a pairs LP... and i try not to pay attention too much to it and then it gets removed from my brain foerever sort of

It looks like the Men's Junior FS is running now. Brian Le is skating now...

But it is hard to track as there is no live scoring on the starting order/results page...And the results and protocols from the Junior Ladies that wrapped up an hour ago don't seem to be posted as yet.


I'm going to thank chuckm for bringing the scores from the ISU Challenge Cup to our attention....

BUT underscore that this was not the event that Skate Canada sent our top juniors and novice skaters too [that was the Barvarian Open]. Instead, this was an initiative of BC/YK section to take a delegation to an ISU event to build experience among its skaters who did not get a post nationals international assignment from Skate Canada...

Looking at the ISU Challenge Cup 2017 results so far...and I have one strong thought...

When are freeskate coaches in BC going to get the message that program components aren't optional? They aren't something that can get caught up later.....

Brian Le just had a bit of a rough skate, popping a jump and having a fall. Looks like he will end up at the bottom with that. It's unfortunate. While his PCS was above his TES, I must admit that I was having unhappy reminders of Kevin and Nam as I saw very slow two foot skating for most of the program........If Joanne MacLeod and the freeskate coaching team at Champs hang everything on the jumps and they don't come through, their skaters don't have much else on offer. How much negative judging feedback on PCS can the Champs freeskate coaching team or their skaters absorb before learning happens?

Beresford Clements who represents the Connaught SC finished with a silver in the Men's Advanced Novice event. He basically lost the gold on PCS. He was slightly down in TES compared to the gold medal winner in the FS [half a point], but it was being 4.5 points lower in PCS in his FS that pushed him out of first position. Congratulations on the silver to Beresford....he's the top finisher from BC in this competition, but I hope he takes the PCS lesson away with him.

And while I have generally thought the Kelowna skaters a bit stronger on PCS, I'm seeing much the same story. Their overall scores are overly reliant on jumps and when those aren't done well or don't have the more challenging entries or exits from transitions to bolster the GOE, there aren't the program components to compensate.

I do have to say that Olivia Gran has improved her components since the JGP. She skated a beautifully clean FS and wasn't looking so much down at the ice as she was in the JGP. Her FS had some lovely and graceful moments. Olivia won the FS, but overall finished a very close second to Emmy Ma (who opened her FS with a messy fall, but recovered to skate well---her spins are exquisite). Emmy edged Olivia by winning the FS PCS 50.41 to 46.71, but these two ladies had the highest PCS scores in the competition by far.

Agree that Olivia Gran of Kelowna SC finished well, especially in winning the FS. Her total score beats her previous PB of 121.50 at the 2016 JGP St. Gervais by over 25 points. Looks promising for a good experience in the 2017 JPG season. Olivia will turn 14 in April....

Hopefully, Meagan Yim of Champs will take some good learnings from this experience back into her training and preparation for the new season. This outing has a total score a bit lower than her PB from the 2015 Cup of Austria JGP of 122.63. Something needs to change......She'll turn 16 in September so the time is now. A score below 120 will not likely meet Skate Canada's criteria for a JPG assignment. ... and yes, her bio lists Joanne MacLeod as her coach...

If someone told me that I would love a program by a 6 ft tall, 18-year old man to Mary Poppins, I would have thought they were crazy. But I DO. He really sells it, without being too juvenile or cheesy or over the top.

Not sure where chuckm found more complete unofficial results, but the Facebook page at the link posted below just has photos of the final signed judges sheet for the total scores by event.

I missed Larkyn's skate. The competition page on GS doesn't have much description of the Canadians, and the copyright owner has now forced the youtube poster who was linking to the livestream to block content....So I don't expect to see a video replay available....

Some of the Europeans have posted their skates on youtube, but don't see that BC/YK section has done so as yet.

Can anyone tell me why there was a live stream, but

[1] this wasn't available on the ISU channel [which isn't geoblocked in Canada with very limited senior event exceptions]

[2] whoever has the rights for wherever thinks that they should have the right to geoblock in North America? :curse:

As for streaming ... I certainly do not have an answer for Why anything is (or should be) the way it is.

As an American, I also am mindful that USFS does not offer streaming of the US Classic for free -- not even within the U.S. So I don't consider myself in any position to throw stones at the ISU or any other federation/LOC for its streaming practices.

Larkyn skated 1st, which is always tough, esp. for an unknown. Still, she ended up in the top flight for the LP (currently in 4th). The field is close for 2/3/4 place at the moment. She could move up if she skates like she did at Canadians, in her LP.
