Deniss Vasiljevs

That's great! I only hope that Lambiel will be able to teach him quads as he does not really approve of them. I myself don't care about quads (at least The Four Seasons programme was fabulous without any!) But he has to.

I am seriously considering going to Rostelecom Cup because so many of my faves are there. (Beside Deniss, also Zhenya and Yuzu :luv17:). But because of this, I know it'll be a bloodbath for the tickets :drama:
I saw something about the hotels in Moscow already being booked, but I don't know whether it's true or not.

Does anyone know when the tickets usually go on sale? I have only been following figure skating for a year so I'm such a newbie with all of this :slink:

Why do you say that? Lambiel still practices quads himself. I've never heard him say he is against quads. I do think he cares about having balanced programs that are not just a jumpfest - but that doesn't mean he is anti-quad. Deniss has been practicing them; they just weren't ready to put in the programs for last season.

I would loooove to go to Rostelecom or NHK...those lineups :drama: but neither would be practical at all. :sad21:

Due to Deniss' hip flexor injury that he was dealing with last summer/fall, I think he just ran out of time to perfect his quads prior to the start of the season. Seems to me in the recent IFS Magazine, they talked about quad training. Time will tell, but I fully expect to see a quad.

ETA - Just noticed in a previous article that it was a torn adductor injury. I had to look that up! It's a thigh muscle.

New interview ?
We can see Deniss receiving our letters :luv17:
And was the place where he was wearing a suit perhaps Latvia's skating federation?

Translation will be much appreciated!

I am afraid I don’t understand everything, but I am sure that there is somebody who can provide literary translation.
Generally speaking, Deniss was interviewed in his home city, Daugavpils, where he came to pass all the exams needed to complete the 12th school year.
Deniss and his mother went to the city hall of Daugavpils to talk about a sponsorship as he need a deliberate sum of money for training in Switzerland. The man interviewed at some point of the feature is a city hall representative who confirms that the city is going to support Deniss.
As Deniss is a part of a Latvian Olympic team, he gets financial help from this source, as there is no couch in Latvia he can be trained by.
He says he is very happy that he decided to move from Sochi to Switzerland. Surely he has been making a huge progress thanks to Stephane Lambiel.
Confirming that he has been training quads (because they are crucial to be on the top) he underlines that that cannot be made at the expense of other parts of a performance, so he has been developing them all at the same time.
And finally he thanks to all the supporters, fans, teachers at his Russian high school etc.

Thank you so much! I'm very happy that he's receiving the financial support he needs. Hopefully he did well in all the exams?
And is it me or does he look taller in every new interview?

I never expected him to focus 100% on quads, but it's nice having a confirmation that he's working on further developing other skills too.

Thank you for the translation. And I love hearing his voice, even tho I can't understand him! Fun to see him receiving our letters and cards! What a great idea. I'd love to do that again - maybe for his birthday? I just checked and saw his birthday is coming up -- August 9.

That's a good idea about birthday. We talked about Christmas cards but forgot about his birthday! Maybe Jelena was thinking about the opportunity to hand the letters personally to him (he will probably be back home for Christmas, but maybe not for his birthday) but she did say she will keep the POBox open and letters will be welcome any time. I will mention about birthday anyway, maybe we can still plan something special!

So excited -- just noticed in the You Tube where he is holding up all his mail, I can see my envelope because my return address sticker had a lighthouse on it. Can't believe I didn't see it before!...Maybe it would be possible to post the address for the p.o. box here again in case people want to send a birthday card.

ETA - I just found that I still have the address.

Yes,that's exactly what Deniss is saying about Stephane. I only want to add that Deniss especially stresses he learns a lot every day, he finds new ways how to perfect himself about which he could't even imagine. He hopes to reach the highest goals under Stephane's guidance-to win medals, even at Olympics. It means they really have fantastic relationship and it gives a lot of benefit to both of them.
He will be 18 on August 9. It means that Stephane doesn't have a kid anymore, but a very handsome young man. He matures physically and as a personality just under our eyes. That's great!!

:thank: for the translations! I appreciate so much that Deniss is focusing on the whole performance and not just quads. I expected this, given what he and Stephane value in figure skating, but it's great to hear Deniss say it. And it's absolutely wonderful that he's so passionate about learning every day and finds so much satisfaction in that process. All the best to him next season and beyond!

Did you guys see the latest Insta story Deniss posted? Must be a heat wave in Champery  Summer cooking style, indeed...
