2017 GP Skate Canada Ladies SP

In transitions she is better than anyone else in ladies, i've yet to find someone else at the same level on that aspect: maybe Zagitova especially with that crazy entrance to the 2A, but then she rushed into everything else, so her components shouldn't be as high as Evgenia.

The rest is good, not the best in the world i'd give you that but as we said many times, PCS are often pushed by one single element (just like Ashley's skating skills aren't great but she is a performer, that's why her components are high)

Now back to the great performances of the top 4 ladies here.

Agreed that her transitions are better than Zagitova's! And about the rest - good, but there are others that are equal or better.

Back on topic - looking forward to the free skates. I like to think a lot of skaters got the errors out of their systems and we're in for some strong programs.

The top three skaters were very impressive and they skated their short programs clean. Anna Pogorilaya seems to be back in shape and Maria Sotskova would end up winning a bronze mental. Marin Honda took the risk by going for the triple-triple combination and fell after the second jump. I think the last-minute change was a gamble.

Marin can do a 3+3. But it should have been a 3F+3T, and then a solo 3Z. The singling of the axel was a big issue, but a HUGE issue for her were her spin errors (only 6.6 BV and -GOE, vs. 9.4 for all level 4s as with Osmond).

So much for the statement that Kaetlyn does not earn her marks, and is always 'a gimmee', at SC. This was a mini US, Japan ,and RU final flight, and she fit right in. If anything from what I am reading here, is that KO was underscored.

Marin should've just stuck to the 3F-3T, at least for now. Even watching her do the 3Lz-3T in practice, I was dreading it. Too much of a risk in her debut I guess :sad21: Hopefully she kills it in the free like I know she can and just not let the placements get to her.

I would not be so sure. I can easily see Pogo doing the Pogosplat (God help us) And Sotskova, may not get the benefit of the doubt on her jumps with this panel.

Honestly, everytime there is a Japanese specialist, the TES scores get whacky.

Yes! I'm glad that SC is keeping it real... but to be honest they should just play dirty if the other federations (well, one so far....) are propping up their skaters.

Still a lot of skating left though, but seems that they're being stricter.

Oh please. The canadian ladies all got the scores they deserved. The bad performances were duly penalized and the great one rewarded. I am pretty sure Craine is happy with her performance and score there and more importantly happy to compete at her first grand prix.

Now...get back to work. It takes many to make an orchestra. Believe me, I have a daughter university percussionist. The first to arrive and the last to leave.

Marin really needs a clean skate in the FS. a) to do better than her previous GPs and get some PCS momentum going and b) to actually put herself in the Japanese Olympic conversation again.

I know it's just one program, but this was an absolute disaster. I mean, 10th... OUCH. Her jumping was very poor, and she was not hitting her spin levels. She was clearly unfocused, and inexperience and pressure got to her. Which is unfortunate because the program and her skating abilities are quite lovely.

She has to beat Rika overall tomorrow, otherwise all that hype might die down reaaaal fast.

Actually, I hate Russian ESP commentary. TAT would never say something stupid like that.

But even still, ESP RUS's commentary have leaps and bounds to go to reach Carol Lane level nastiness.

Agreed. The amount of pressure on the Japanese skaters is daunting. Just those few minutes here and there to prove themselves.
Only those GPs and the Nationals and that's it.

Maybe Rika did so well, because she has been out of the conversation for a big part and there was less of that pressure on her.

And to reiterate... Medvedeva fell and got a 10 (even when the ISU very sweetly requested that not to happen).

Osmond went absolutely clean, on home ice, and didn't even clear 90% (36+) PCS.

Carol didn't call Russia cheaters out loud either. She said, weeell, that's Russia (referring to the scoring). I see no difference in her comments and that of the Russian commentators, who apparently said: 'In another country than Canada Kaetlyn would have gotten 74'. given the translation provided to us here is correct.
