2017 GP Skate Canada Ladies FS

Both situations are completely possible. A program can be "perfect" but overscored and it can be a mess and beat a perfect program by an amazing skater by 10 points. 11 actually, Kaetlyn's totally messy (and extremely boring) program beat Marin's free 136 to 125. That's the very definition of criminal overscoring.

Respectfully going to point out that Kaetlyn didn't get URs called, and I agree with that. Her jumps were high and rotated. Also going to disagree with her program being called boring, but that's a matter of taste, I suppose.

And I don't think she does think this is going to cut it for the Olympics. But its not like Ashley bombed. Her skate was solid. In fact, more than solid in the context of this competition and quite frankly, more than on par with a lot of what we've seen from contenders thus far.

I liked Ashley's free skate. She had some mistakes (her tech score fell a lot--I haven't seen the protocols but she must have had some URs) but she performed it well. Standing alone, did she deserve a medal? Maybe not. Standing against the competition here, she definitely did.

She can, if she performs well at some point.
My logic here is simple: Russia got Evgenia and Alina who are real medal Oly contenders so far. Now, everybody else is not: Sotskova, Radionova, Tuktamysheva are just obviously not medal contenders here. So it does not really matter who to send, they will end up somewhere below top 5. Anna's advantage last year was that yeah, she had meltdowns, but when she skated clean, she was a podium contender. So she was a good bet actually, since yeah, she could bomb, but its not like the other ladies would do MUCH better than that, they still would be somewhere below top 5. With Anna, there was a chance she would not meltdown and then place really high.

Now, just saying - if she skates clean on her second GP, and then skates clean at Nationals, they will send her and it will be it.
To be honest, I don't think she'll skate clean at these events and even so I don't think they'll send her to Olympics.

ANNA COACH TELLING HER IN kiss and cry : "I'm not coming to you anymore.Go to competitions yourself -alone. You should prepare better"

If this is true...Anna should take her seriously and LEAVE!!! She is there to coach, and encourage her through good times and bad. Anna is not the first skater to struggle and she won't be the last!!! I have certainly had my difficulties with my dancers but...........That's what closed door meetings in offices are for. If she had done this while working for a public university she would have been fired for speaking to the athletes in this way.

I'm surprised Anna didn't say something like......"If you were a good coach, maybe I wouldn't be having so many problems" I hope this was a mistranslation and she wasn't that mean. If so, she should be disciplined by the Federation...................

Her getting 67 PCS for a very soulless performance of a program she has performed far better before had quite a bit to do with her.

I agree to a point but each competition is judged on it's own without comparison to what was done before.

for pointers.. Regina is tiny.... and it's the biggest city within a few hours drive 216,528 is the population... Saskatoon is slightly larger with about 250000 people but it's a few hours by car.... it is pretty much farmland all around, and the population is made up of students and government workers.... it is also a province that is into curling and speed skating... figure skating is not as popular there.

I am not surprised by the small crowd.

Next year, it Skate Canada will be in Laval, just a small bridge across from Montreal AND right on the subway line... so 30 minutes by train from Downtown montreal...

It should be much more crowded... even if most of the Canadian stars retire after the games.

Yep, i understand and i´m not really complaining.
Its totally not fair to compare Regina with Moscow (9 mi population) for example, there surely will be more crowd on certain events.

I question the location decision on this, though - because i personally would pick bigger cities or surroundings for such competitions.

ANNA COACH TELLING HER IN kiss and cry : "I'm not coming to you anymore.Go to competitions yourself -alone. You should prepare better"

Wait- that's really what her coach was saying? If so, then she should leave ASAP. That's just cruel for a coach to say, esp after a disastrous competition.

Also, you can tell Anna is skating injured and possibly also with psychological burden. She used to skate with such attack, that was one of the things I loved about her Her SP and FS were skated very tentatively, like she was trying very hard not to fall.

GS twitter reporting that Ashley was complaining about the panel's calls in the mixed zone.

Honey, really?

We are such a nice country with a rich history of amazing figure skaters, why recently we are getting hated on so much? people were so supportive of Canadian skaters what happened?

ANNA COACH TELLING HER IN kiss and cry : "I'm not coming to you anymore.Go to competitions yourself -alone. You should prepare better"

Whaaaaaa.... that is ROUGH!!!!! FIRE THE COACH!!!!

Also a song about a converted racist being performed by someone who is very clearly supportive of a white supremacist agenda as per her Twitter is very interesting to say the least. :hopelessness:

Wow...what a disappointing person if this is true.

I'm just describing how it was coming across to me, that's all -- no ill will intended at all. I love skaters from all nationalities. Based on the comments here I was seeing/sensing something most other people were not so that's that.

It was great to see the audience supporting Anna. As a fan of hers I'm very saddened by her skate and her injury and was probably reading into it.

That's hardly an apology!! We [Canadians] are still waiting glorybox6...
