2017 GP Cup of China Mens FS

There was nothing abnormal with Kolyada's PCS. He gets the PCS within the usual range he gets with the same mistakes.Nothing to see here.

Not sure about that. Kolyada fell on the 4Lz and popped the 3A at Worlds and got an 82 in PCS.

Kolyada has been steadily rising in PCS ever since he came on the scene two seasons ago. I guess people just didn't care about him enough to know? And now that he's 'suddenly' winning something it's all overcooking, overscoring. Blah. People are barely taking the time to read the protocols before saying stuff - mind you, he lost twenty points with those two pops. Had he at least fell on them he'd have won the FS by a mile.

The scores were really slightly out there in places (*cough-Kolyada'sPCS*cough*), but the placements were more or less correct. As they say, while you can't win with a SP, you can definitely lose with it, and if the other wanted to win, they either needed to have a great SP or hope for a total Kolyada splat-fest, which, despite some mistakes, did not happen.

GPF (Nathan, Shoma, Yuzu, Boyang)

Javier's spot taken by Kolyada
Who will take Patrick's spot? Brown or Aaron

Most likely some more Americans.

Brown should easily make it in if he does what he does and takes the silver at NHK (easy now that Chan is out). Rippon has an easy bronze at SkAm and also has a possibility of silver at NHK. Javier's disappointing showing here clears the path in France for Max who could win another silver or bronze. Lots of possibilities. With a better showing in France, Vincent could also make it since he didn't do too badly in China.

Boyang looked pale and sad. Maybe he has the flu? Something was not there in his performance tonight. Hope he's okay! Still proud of his 2nd place. Well done, Boyangman!

Yes, after he bombed in SP. And he the memory was still fresh after last night.

Anyway, why am I even arguing. He cleanly won here. PCS or no PCS.

Vincent needs to stop bombing his SP's he would have easily made the podium with just one fall in the SP. Also his coaches need to realize he can't do all those quads right now in the LP so take at least one out. No shame in realizing that he can't do that many right now. But 4th place and only 3 points out of a medal in your first GP even with all the mistakes is not bad and Vincent showed last season that he finishes strong.

Good deductions.
6th spot will be Max and Rippon battling it out with 2-3 positions.

I wonder if most of the men are trying to leave a little in the tank for the Olympics. All the men have a lot of room for growth with their programs.

I am loving how the competition among the American men for the Olympic team seems to be raising everyone's game right now. 3GPs in, and it's still a tight race - Jason vs. Vincent vs. Max vs. Adam. Whoever makes the GPF (if anyone) may have an advantage if they skate well there.

You forgot Misha in your calculations. He's pretty much in. And if Nathan, Shoma, Boyang and Yuzu are in, that only leaves one spot.

I understand they are trying difficult, but when they keep failing it just hurting my eyes. Maybe they should skate with easier layout at begining of the season if they cant skate harder one, i dont know.

I think most of these guys hit these difficult elements in practice every day. But, putting all of them together under the pressure of a competition is a completely different story. So, they need to expose themselves to this pressure in the first half of the season to be prepared for the second half.

Also, U.S. has medal in every GP so far! 3 for 3. :) They're tied with Russia, who also had a man medal in every GP so far (well Mikhail taking two of them).

Honestly Kolyada is veryyyy lucky he has the Flag of a very powerful federation next to his name...cause if he was from a smaller country he would not get near the podium skating like did in his two Grand Prixs

I disagree. In Rostelecom he was craaazy overscored, but even with reduced PCS and higher PCS for (a way underscored) Ge, he would have likely been still bronze. Also, he won CoC by almost 15 points (and was 23 points ahead of Zhou in 4th.... even with that hot mess of a FS.... mainly due to his flawless SP (with 4Z and 4T), and the other guys being far from their best.

We all know his 3-fall Rostelecom FS PCS was an absolute joke (and his FS here too should have been no more than 85), but he did a lot of great things in this competition, and credit should be given where due. And we need to acknowledge how the rest of the field skates.

Mikhail already gotten Javi's spot.
Nathan, Shoma, Boyang and Yuzu remain in their own spots.

We are discussing Patrick's vacated spot. Thus Aaron or Rippon.

Or Jason?

Also the spots don't really belong to anyone. I mean yeah Patrick and Javier were the most likely to get them, but Mikhail and whoever gets spot No. 6 has to earn them. And Nathan, Boyang, Yuzuru and Shoma has to earn their spots too.

Chen is in. So is Uno. Unless Hanyu "pulls a Javier" in the next event, he is in. But i am not so sure about Jin. I say Jin, Aaron, and Brown will fight for the last two spots.

It's a tad high for me. Maybe an 84-85 since he has improved since last season, but 87 is pushing it for me especially with those mistakes.
