2018 US Championships Sr Men FS

Nationals is just one piece of the puzzle. Ross can't expect to perform well in one competition over the past four years and get sent to the Olympics. There is criteria in place for a reason and this is why.

Disgusting. That's it. I'm done with the USFS(A).

You thought they's send Ross? I was hoping they would but I actually figured this would like with Mirai. Although they protected Polina with her silver in '14.

I hope they at least let Ross go to Worlds.

BBM. Regarding freedom of expression. There are times when it’s a grand idea to hold your tongue....

It’s called sportsmanship, respect for others, humility. These are strong Olympian values. During nationals atletes are being selected to represent the US. Remember how Jeremy Abbott entitled himself to “free expression” in Sochi? How poorly that played in Olympic media, and then he almost lost Team USA any chance at a medal?

Or more appropriate since the I, Tonya movie is out.....how Tonya was bad mouthing Kerrigan before or after the "incident" which later came back to bite her in the end. Can't find the quote but I think it went something along the line of "I can't wait to whoop her a**" or something similar.

Usfsa is disgusting, they may not want Ross but he is their silver medalist! This was vincient’s best competition and he was still beaten by Ross Miner anyways! Send Vincent to worlds as the 3rd person when spots are on the line. The 3rd spot to the olympics is going for the experience/life dream of skating at the olympics, no spots are on the line and Ross Miner earned it last night. Vincent’s doesn’t have a body of work from this season. All he has is last season which is all junior level besides nationals when he placed second in front of an injured Jason Brown. I agree bumping 3rd place for Adam as I️ think he has a very solid body of work, especially compared to the 3rd place person. But who sends 1, 3, and 4 to the olympics, Jesus USFSA get your act together and have some respect for the sport like Japan does.

I don't think it's a case of trying your best btw. I'm pretty sure that Ross has been trying. He's just not consistent.

So disappointing. From now on, there won't be any more Olympic surprise stories at nationals ever. I can understand how they arrived at that decision but nationals in an Olympic year used to be something special. That's gone now. The event itself has lost meaning.

Poor Ross. It should have been a toss between Rippon and Vincent. Can't believe they're doing this with a silver medalist. What next? Remove gold from the safe position and send someone from the fourth position in the coming nationals? :dev2::ddevil:

True but Vincent won the silver last year but the usfsa sent him to Jr world's instead of seniors if anything Vincent has shown that he is consistently in the. Three for the past two years at the national level yes he struggled on the Grand Prix but he has shown that he peeks at the proper time and doesn't leave it all behind in the Grand Prix

Crazy scenario.

Olympics: Nathan, Vincent, Adam
Worlds: Nathan, Vincent, Jason
4CC: Ross, Grant, Alexander Johnson.

But doesn't Castelli and Tran have citizenship issues? Can a team be sent to Worlds if they aren't citizens?

That is only an issue for the Olympics. They could have gone to Worlds, but they gave 1st alternate to bronze medalist Cain/LeDuc instead and left them out of the 4CC team entirely.

There just seems to be a lot of manufactured outrage. Ross has done well in exactly one competition in the past two years.

This won't make more than a tiny ripple in the media. It's not the ladies, where the GA think the US is still tops.

Nationals was only a piece of the puzzle and Miner's results elsewhere are non-existent.

From what I understand I don't even think the gold medalist is guaranteed a berth on the Olympic team anymore

As long as one of them is a citizen they can attend worlds. Olympics requires both be citizens. ISU vs IOC rules. I don't see how Tran is going to get US citizenship. I thought there was a residency requirement and he refuses to train anywhere but Montreal.

To be honest, I see no point of Nationals in that case. Seems like a pretty pointless exercise to go to Nationals if one doesn't have "body of work".

Yeah but Vincent has had no consistency this season. Even last night all but one quad was called under rotated. So they are not using body of work they are using what Vincent in a perfect world could potentionally score. Not to mention he is young and developing and will continue on after this season. This is Ross’s last chance.

It’s easy to understand why USFSA believes that sending Ross Miner to the Olympics is too risky of a gamble. Just because he claims he trains the same way at home as he performed on Saturday night does not negate the fact that he is not a strong competitor. He hasn’t won a medal on the Grand Prix circuit since 2015 and prior to this Nationals had not finished in the top 4 at US Championships since 2013. In eight years as a senior competitor, he has not even medaled at a senior ISU championship. His competitive record does not merit an Olympic trip.

I guess that was expected. I thought maybe they'd let it go because spots aren't on the line, but all of Ross' international results have been abysmal for years and maybe they're also considering the team competition here.
