2018 Olympic Figure Skating Team Event Day 3

So, if the Bronze is between the US and Italy, my question is, which Man is Italy sending to the Free Program and can this skater beat Adam if Adam makes a couple of mistakes like Nathan?

Matteo Rizzo's PB is 157.34
Adam's PB is 182.28

Doubtful, unless Adam has a meltdown. Rippon's lowest score this season was 166. As mentioned, Rizzo's PB is 157.

Valentina is now skating in pairs btw. Carolina is skating tonight iirc, and Mirai will be very hard pressed to beat her. Would require a meltdown.

Because V/M are multiple Olympic, world, etc CHAMPIONS and the others are not?

Obviously reputation judging still does happen (cough cough euros 2018) but I thought it wasn't supposed to be? so this seems like a flimsy reason to hold them up?

But I think the question is, Matteo skates lights out (Forza Italia:biggrin:) and Adam does not. I really don’t remember Adam’s LP score at Nats, was it 160? Or higher?

Matteo RIZZO will be skating for Italy. His best FS was is 157.34. Adam got a 171.82 at US Nationals with two pops and a fall, granted it was US Nationals, but still, I think Matteo would need help from Adam to beat Adam. Still... it could happen.

well... if Carolina was SCORED CORRECTLY, maybe it wouldn't require a meltdown

Mirai doesn't have to beat Carolina to seal it for USA, she just needs not to finish last.

I think the predictions of Tahuu in post 136 are realistic.

Same with Adam Rippon versus matteo Rizzo. Adam won't place behind Rizzo, but he could place next-to-last which would give Italy a chance, depending on Capelini and Lanotte.

Wrong. If Carolina melts down she will still place 3rd or higher. It’s literally printed in the rule book at this point. :rolleye:

Mirai will need to club some knees to get a fair shot in this sport, triple Axel or not.

Lol. According to Jackie, Mirai is NAILING her jumps. Kaori sounds shakey

Predicted results

Men FS
USA 8 ITA 6

Ladies FS
USA 6 ITA 9

Dance FD
USA 9 ITA 8

USA 59
ITA 58

This is all possible but given how terrible men’s events are sometimes, Adam could be first or fourth. Carolina has not done exceptionally well in the LP this season clean skates from Sakamoto or Nagasu could beat her. ( I hope not because I don’t like either long program but backloading (ehhh) or triple axel could beat her) Finally, there is a definite push for B/S by the Russian federation so they could ( really based on basic skating skills they shouldn’t ) be placed ahead of S/S. I say 80/20 the US wins this bronze but would be thrilling and good for the sport if Italy won.

Hold the presses: Bradie Tennell is on Olympic Ice (the figure skating pre and post show). She listens to 80s Rock before skating! Bradie was listing band names. :eeking: That's much more interesting than anything I've heard about Bradie before. :dev2:

Her hair was also down and she sounded like a mature woman. It was the first time that I've actually thought of her as a 20 year old.

I may have to stop my Kimmie Meisner 2.0 jokes after all :laugh2:

I’m just waiting for the Canadian flag bearer curse to kick in

Well actually the flag bearers for Canada have done pretty well. Clara Hughes got a bronze in 2010 and Hayley Wickenheiser got gold in 2014. And looking at the others, Danielle Goyette won gold in 2006, Catriona Le May Doan got gold in 2002 and 1998 (when she was the closing flag bearer). Looking at the summer olympics, Rosie MacLennan won gold in 2016, Adam van Koeverden won a silver in 2008.

So I don't really think that this flag bearer curse actually exists.

I don't know enough about ice dance to detail exactly why, but Virtue and Moir are among the all-time best in the sport and remain so this year. Not only are their edges and steps perfect, but they are also extremely expressive in the upper body. They may not be your personal favorites, but there is a reason why they get 80 for a short dance even with a less-than-perfect pattern.

Anyway, for this team event, all the action is on 2nd through 4th place, between the Americans, Russians, and Italians. The Shibs have probably got it, but you never know.
