2018 Olympic Figure Skating Pairs SP

In Sochi, all figure skating in the US started between 10am and noon. I remember because I took days off of work to watch ladies. I'm not saying that I agree with NBC strong-arming to get their way, but maybe we can really avoid the narrative that NBC and Americans are being totally selfish and rude to the world.

No criticism of Americans, just of NBC. They are trying to make money which is fine because they are in the business of profit. But, that did create other problems. Small crowds and difficult competition times for competitors.

I think CBS was better as well. I don't complain nearly as much because of the streams and the app.

I just looked up ABC's last coverage. Summer 84 and Winter 88 so yeah I'm definitely dating myself - and it's MUCH BETTER with the streams.

Spot on. It's such a pity.

Now I have to go with parents to visit relatives - a must in Chinese New Year. No internet. Just prey the relatives are watching Olys and CCTV is broadcasting again Figure Skating.

I'll catch up with you guys later.

Ok, this is not NBC world where we pretend things are not happening

I am pretending it's not happening. I hate trying to watch sports competitions when I know the outcome. That's cool, I'll just check back in here later.

I know we've been discussing how NBC's schedule has obviously created issues, and there's no doubt it has. But IIRC the tickets weren't selling for a lot of sports, right? I thought the news outlets were discussing how the political climate was making a lot of people uneasy about going. I mean, it's not like there's not enough figure skating fans in the world to fill a single arena, even at 10am. But I do think a lot of people were understandably wary about relations with NK--the last few months have been a bit hairy.

Awright, I'm actually gonna go and ask it:
is that north Korean cheering team actually doing any cheering? As in, doing anything other than cheering for the north Korean pair?

No need to sheild yourself from unexpected halfpipe spoilers back then. ;)

I can't deal with snakes... even when I know they can't get through the windshield. Somehow I fear they will get through the vents.

The IOC sells it to the highest bidder. NBC has won it for so many years that I've almost quit complaining about it. I don't know if other networks bother bidding on it anymore. I highly preferred ABC's coverage, which dates me as I expect many viewers weren't even born the last time ABC aired an Olympics.

IIRC, last time around, NBC made a multi-year "extension" bid and the IOC accepted it without letting the other networks compete for it. So, yeah, if NBC is the devil, the IOC willingly sold their soul
